I have managed to get my hands on an RX 550 that was pulled from a prebuilt HP system.

Currently I am using AMD's Radeon Software to overclock. I managed to get it to boost clock speeds by 15% and I increased the power limit by 20%.

It held stable during a 15min session of Furmark but about an hour later, it crashed while I was watching YouTube and Radeon Software reset my overclock.

I am not really sure why this happens so any tips are appreciated!

Thank you for reading!

I don't have this issue at stock settings, only when I overclock.

My graphics drivers are up to date

I see well here is how I solved wattman error before try it see if it works:
1 - make sure windows is up to date .
2- download DDU uninstaller ,adrenaline 2020 edition 20.9.1 , and msi afterburner.
3- disconnect from all form of internet connection (wireless and wired) make sure you stay disconnected , ( there is a workaround this but first we need to see if this works )
4- (optional) if possible reseat the gpu to a different pcie slot
5- boot into safe mode , run DDU and clean amd drivers, reboot and install adrenaline software then reboot again .

since you had no issues at stock speeds , you can now try overclocking using msi afterburner .

I hope it helps , good luck :) .

If you have no issues at stock, it is resetting settings when it detects instability caused by an unstable overclock.

flash this bios using THIS. afterwards, reset the pc and use amd ati pixal clock patcher then restart again. Dont use furmark, these cards have poor cooling on the vrms and it just cooks them. i increased the clocks and power settings to stock rx460(no 6pin). if its stable we can work on core clock and memory frequency using msi afterburner. then we will tighten the timmings as much as possible. the bios itself should correct the crash issue you are having.

Thank you very much! Before I flash the BIOS, is there any chance of me bricking the GPU from updating the BIOS? As in the card will no longer output any signal if it does not like the new BIOS? I am asking this because updating motherboard BIOS's seems to be a pretty large source of anxiety for a lot of people.

it is resetting settings when it detects instability caused by an unstable overclock.
Unfortunately, it also deletes my custom fan curve and makes me re-enter it, so God forbid that the driver times out for any reason, including a software bug that causes issues at light loads.
Including a totally random driver timeout when I was using Chromium Edge recently, IIRC, before I wiped my Samsung 970 Pro 512 GB NVMe SSD on the 7th.
The crashes at light loads, likely means you should go to Igor's Lab for help with Radeons.
