Non, this is Intel 10ESF - an enhanced version of the 10SF Finfet node - now called Intel 7. They're calling it Intel 7 now because nobody understands that Intel 10nm is roughly equal in density to most others 7nm nodes, i.e. 'nm' is a meaningless term for a node these days.

In actual nm facts..Alder lake is 7nm. Intel delayed their 7nm node sixteen months ago (for ~one year) to retool and improve yield. A little birdy told me initial ADL runs are on a replicated TSMC node and will shift back to Intel foundries once the optimized 7nm Intel node is ready to go. Meaning, initial ADL runs on Intel nodes have already begun. ARC runs will stay with TSMC for the foreseeable future per Intel's business strategy plans.

A bit OT but true story on prices. Last Sept when gas prices were really low (like under $2/gal) I traded my truck in on a mfr cert used hybrid lincoln mkz with just under 25k miles @$19,200. At the time nobody wanted hybrids. Then in Jan/Feb I was moving, wifes minivan broke down and part wasn't available for 6 weeks and it was at 120k miles, so I traded it on on a grand caravan GT @45k miles cost 16,500. Now mind you, at that time I really thought I was being taken for a ride and wasting money but I didn't want two vehicles with 100K+ miles.

I looked this morning and the same model hybrid MKZ (13 months later and older) lowest price within 300 miles of me with under 30k miles is asking 28K. The same model minivan with 46k miles is $24,000. That is around +40% increased cost to buy the same vehicles and they would be +8 months and +13 months older.

On top of all that, I sold and bought a house for 268K earlier this year (new build). Same floorplan same house on smaller lot in same subdivision sells for 330K now. That is like +25%.

Even the 10850K I bought in Q1 at $299 is selling for like 10-30% more now.

So yeah, something is broken.

Pricing is broken. It's all broken. So many people crying that CPU prices aren't the same as they were last year, but as you pointed out; stuff is selling for upwards of 30% or more just off the shelf.

The wife and I just sold our townhouse (side by side style). Our place went on the market 1 day after the neighbor's did (lady living next to us). Our place has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms and a loft area (equates to almost 400 extra livable square footage) whereas the neighbor's place has 2 bedrooms, 1.5 bathroom. Our place went for right around the top end a couple other townhomes by us sold for.....but the place next door that had zero things done to it (still had original flooring, cabinets, light fixtures that was installed 17 years prior), someone actually paid $40K more for the neighbor's place over what ours went for. What the hell? That's just fricking crazy!

Also, the whole process of trying to find a new place - if you're not lining up a viewing the day of a place goes on the market and then if you're not putting a bid in that same day, you're pretty much guaranteed no chance at the house being on the market the next day. We'd walk through 4 or 5 places a day and ones that clearly are not worth what the asking price is, they're still flying off the market. I've walked through places that were asking $425K and they looked like shit - water damage, bug infestation, a deck that's rotting, piss poor patch job on walls, damaged flooring....and the houses fucking sell! They sell for the asking price or more.

It got to a point where we were putting in offers on places that we didn't really like, but didn't really hate either. Just because houses were being sold in as little as 48 hours.

The wife and I got lucky, we found a great place (older home, was built around 1970), but the current owners had added on two big bedrooms and a full bath upstairs, added a nice 300sqft sunroom, all the walls were professionally painted and the list goes on. The current owners, they are in their late 50s, but the husband is a contractor so he has taken good care of the place and made sure things are handled professionally.

People seem to be out buying just to be buying. I was at my local Target store a few days ago (was this past Monday, actually) and the entire shelf of toilet paper was empty. People aren't hoarding TP again (not to my knowledge), but it feels like people are buying just to be buying because it is there. At the same time though, one of the store workers said the delivery truck never showed up that day and it had been several days since it was supposed to come in. Sounds like trucking material around is becoming a bigger and bigger problem.

This is market forces and capitalism in action folks. Buying products to inject capital into businesses that pay employees (who spend their money on other products), and pay dividends to investors (who spend their money on other products) is the definition of the free capitalist market. If you don't need the product for your own business demands, it's a luxury, and you'll pay whatever is asked, or you can settle for something else.

It's not pretty, but it is how the free market works. If you don't like it, I don't think you'll like the not-so-free-market equivalent where you get what you're given.

And this folks is why Intel had to change their naming convention. Too many people like @sillyconjunkie here don't know anything more than the marketing hype. So we get to re-visit this topic for the poorly informed. Alder lake is Intel 7 which is roughly the same as TSMC 7nm and better than Samsung 7nm :

Just look at the share price tanking while Gelsinger is trying to fluff it the hell up on cnbc.
Just in time for scalpers (though we don't usually call them that) to step in and buy some INTC. It worked out pretty well last October.

If I'm lucky, i might have cash for a 12700k/board and ram in a few weeks.

I'm super interested on how it compares to the i9 given the only major difference is 4 efficiency cores.

Nice prices, AMD shouldn't have raise their prices, they will probably end up paying for it

Now Intel is AMD.
Yes cos they couldn't lower prices now eh.

As for Intel being budget ,what budget guy buys memory that's hardly available and really expensive +50% over ddr4.

I make budget PC's on request, no one's passing me enough money or asking for that.

What's sad is I still see 'analysts' in places like Forbes and Barron's saying Intel 10nm is a node like TSMC 10nm, which is complete and utter nonsense. Intel 7 aka 10nm is more than double the density TSMC 10nm was. So here we are, going to the lowest common denominator and appealing to the least knowledgeable thanks to the marketing guys.

I don't look back two years for comparitve info, simple maths if the core's stay on the shop shelf the price Will drop, simple.
Same if Intel regain multi and single core performance crown they Will get more expensive, just from a higher low point apparently.

That 12400 better be cheap because this I7-9 pricing looks a bit ass to me.

Hmm interesting. For what i have seen. 12900K beat 5950X in single core, while multicore 5950X is still king. But with overclock it might be different depending on how alder lake overclock.

Over all i do not regret getting a 5950X and not wait for alder lake. Besides it seems AM4 will get one last hurray with Zen 3 V-cashe. So all in all, i am not missing out on alder lake besides PCIe gen 5 and DDR5 support. That´s not a major problem for me, comming from X58 to Zen 3.

I wish they had an 8+0. I don't think many DIY will want to stomach buying Win 11 ($200) on top of DDR5 + CPU + Motherboard.

I wish they had an 8+0. I don't think many DIY will want to stomach buying Win 11 ($200) on top of DDR5 + CPU + Motherboard.
Hi,
One can get 11 pro for as little as 10.us if you buy 5 pack

My body is ready. This 5800x going straight to ebay
By the way you LITERALLY only make egregiously pro-intel statements, I seriously doubt you own a 5800x or have ever owned an AMD product

This is Intel not AMD. AMD only had 1M Zen 3 desktop chips when Zen 3 launched, which is why the scalpers took control for ~6 months. My guess is this will look like any other Intel launch, the first batch will last about a week then get scarce, and within 6 weeks there will be plenty of supply at MSRP.

On the performance side, I'm not real enthused about having to upgrade to Win 11 to get the benefit. It makes getting anything above a 12400 kind of dubious if you want to stay on Win 10 or don't want to spend $200 on the upgrade (Pro cost). A lot of DIY types will probably fail to note this and thus not factor it into the cost of the upgrade, but DIY is a tiny part of a small (desktop) market.

I really kind of rate this as both incremental in terms of performance (so Intel can beat 5900X now and jab at the 5950X), but an important step in getting things like big.LITTLE, PCIe 5.0, and DDR5 into the mainstream. Intel is moving fast now and Gelsinger is clearly willing to spend money to be #1 again. AMD will need to pull a rabbit out in 2022 with Zen 3+ and Zen 4 else face a repeat the FX days.
Well, preliminary reports list Zen4 IPC increase at 29%, including reporting on this very website....add into that 5nm benefits, v-cache and we might easily be seeing a 35%+ core for core performance uplift with Zen4...on another note, does someone seriously declare the complete downfall of AMD based on one rumored pricing article? I'm honestly asking

Who knows if the v-cache will make it to zen 4.
