High speed ports on motherboard back-panel

You're missing that many devices actually need 3.0
Many modern mice and keyboards need the higher power or lower latency of USB 3.0 (RGB keyboards, 1000Hz gaming mice)
Modern wifi adaptors would be a laugh on 480Mb USB 2.0, even my 'old' AC1200 setup would be crippled
I dont even have a single USB port free... multiple external SSD's, wireless mice and headphone dongles (that do state they need USB 3.0, even if they often dont)
Even my monitor and speakers require USB 3.0 (monitor has a hub, speakers have a DAC)

Anything with a battery charges twice as fast on 3.0 as it does on 2.0 (assuming they follow the specs, many mobos have their tricks for higher charging on 2.0)

KB, mouse (even on 1000Hz polling rate) and DAC dosn't need usb3 bandwidth. Wifi or external drives do.

I never said all of them do. I said some do.
I also clearly said that while many work fine on USB2.0, their official requirements list 3.0

The usb standards are backwards and forwards compatible, just means if a usb 1.5 device is in a usb 3.2 the speed will run at 1.5...

I have made a PCB routing one USB2.0 Line to front panel and there resides a simple HUB IC with hidden TYPE C header for ADC/DAC taken from wired phone headphones, to reduce device cost, thus I have a USB2.0 front panel and audio using only one USB line going across the case while keeping all functionality and looks.

USB 3.0 is pretty much the industry standard nowadays. They're making such ports not because we need so many of them, but because it has become economically feasible to phase out 2.0 ports and controllers.

Besides, having a few extra never hurts. As for me, I have 2 keyboards (a 60% one and a numerical), power for my speakers, power for my small secondary display, a webcam, an external Blu-ray writer, an external HDD and a 2.0 micro cable to charge my mouse every now and then. As such, a single 3.0 port would be enough for the HDD (Edit: and another one for the Blu-ray), but I need lots of USB ports in general for other devices, whether it be 2.0 or 3.0 doesn't matter. I'm also glad that my front ports are 3.0 as I can connect more external HDDs or SSDs without suffering any transfer speed loss.

So many? It depends on use cases. For some it's not enough. At work we had really hard time making computers that can support more than 10 devices with 30+ endpoints. Even at home I did run out of ports on quite a few occasions and had to resort to PCIe USB controller.
Just for your typical desktop home usage scenario you'll need a bare minimum of 6 slots on the back with at least 2 upfront in order to accommodate: keyboard, mouse, wifi dongle, printer, webcam, your smartphone, flashdrives and/or card readers etc.
As to why so many high-speed ports, that's not really a good question considering backwards-compatibility.

You'd be surprised how many of them don't.
There is not a single keyboard/mouse in existence that could possibly exceed USB2.0 bandwidth at this time, and when it comes to power consumption - don't overestimate. Even the eye-blinding RGB keyboard won't need more than 200mA over USB(half that in most cases), and most wireless mice with rechargeable battery only consume around 250mA while charging and working at the same time. And actual "brains of the operation" seep mere milliamps on their own. USB2.0 can supply 0.5A if manufacturer follows the spec, but in real life you can even pull >1A out of 2.0 port since most motherboards don't bother with OCP or proper power regulation, and only include a bare minimum ESD protection and a polyfuse just to make sure you don't burn down your house with a faulty flashdrive.
USB3.0 webcams are pretty much non-existent, and the ones like Brio are quickly snagged by onlyfans streamers, porntentainers and other "influencers". Us mortals, are still stuck with 1080p30/720p60 over USB2.0.
DACs? Don't be ridiculous. Even something like 8-ch 768kHz 32-bit raw stream only needs 192Mbit/s before any type of compression.
Even most smartphones are still bound by USB2.0, which is kinda ridiculous in this day and age.
The only devices that actually use 3.0 speeds are external storage devices, WiFi 5/6 dongles, external Ethernet adapters, and some USB monitors.
You may confuse devices with Type-C connector, thinking that those are superspeed... but they are just your regular 2.0. It's simply a matter of phasing out unreliable microUSB or having a marketable feature.

For your usage scenario, no problems. USB hubs still tend to cause interrupts if you use a mission critical stream. For example you record a sound etc for streaming live video etc... it may hiccup and drop out. Same goes for like playing USB audio.

Hubs don't like still the attachment handshake process and reading descriptor, if your device is being used, like file transfer and you attach another device, during the handshake some bad things may go on, depending on the driver and how well it follows Microsoft recommendation.

If the devices are seldom used, then no problems.

I have two computer desks and each one has a powered USB hub attached to the underside of the tabletop. I plug the keyboard and mouse into this hub. My gaming headset is also plugged into this; when not in use it hangs on a clip underneath the tabletop, out of the way.

The hub I've chosen also provides two power-only (no data) ports so I charge my iPad on one.

I have it this way: Mouse, Keyboard, Xbox Controller, Gaming Headset and printer plugged into the hub.
it has just 1 power port, never used it.
The only downside with this hub are those blue led, even if i turn off the PC the led remains on, each port has it is own switch to turn it on/off, kinda annoying.

On motherboard back-panel just the Hub plugged, i just plug USB sticks or externals SSDs when needed.

I have an Anker that has a small blue LED next to each port but covered them some black electricians tape.

The TP-Link hubs I've affixed underneath my desks have tiny, discreet white LEDs. I didn't bother covering those lights.

It doesn't really bothers me because its behind the monitor and i don't see it but when i turn the lights off the room become all blue instead dark

Not a lot when externally powered - in 'theory' you could add a small amount of latency but i doubt it.
Some devices interfere with each other, USB 3.x devices transferring a lot of data can jam 2.4GHz wifi/BT/etc within 1-2CM for example (cords/leads of any type prevent this)

I have a 7 port 3.0 hub here as well, should probably tape it under the desk and move the lightweight corded devices to it
