5.5Ghz... Thats just an overclocked quad core... 8.4 seconds superpi doesn't even seem that impressive, for a "brand new" 5.5Ghz CPU with 4 cores. Intel always does something retarded like this right when AMD is about to kill them. Remember when AMD hit 1Ghz and had a huge supply of them? Intel "shipped" Ghz chips like 2 days later, and you couldn't find them anywhere. They can sure paint a pretty picture.

ok mr. amd fanboy, keep in mind that this isn't a unified quad core like amd has, so ALL data that needs to go from core 0 and/or 1 to core 2 and/or 3 has to go through the fsb. 8.4s is incredible when you understand the architecture and realize that this means that the performance scale is almost perfectly linear...

Agreed, also why did the dude mention 4 cores....don't make a difference compared to dual core.

its an awesome achievment from intel,is there any wonder they want to show it off.

if this was the same kind of achievement by amd,i would still say its awesome.

amd won't go belly up... with the hd 3000 series right around the corner for ati, i'm sure that amd's cashflow will raise exponentially.

do you even know what exponentially MEANS? you sound like a politician! :shadedshu

Oh god...nutburst...why do you like that? On a side note...Intel should roll out a couple of p4 nutbursts based on 45nm and see 6-7 ghz cpu's....can anyone say new world record for best frequency?

You fanboys take it somewhere else. Congratulations to the ExtremeSystems gang for another great overclock. It takes a lot more than extreme cooling to push those numbers. I always look to see what they are doing at their site.

Why in the hell isn't AMD putting on the hoo ha, like Intel's doing? What is AMD's problem? Are they waiting to give us some "big suprise"? The more we wait, the more I doubt it.

I would like to see AMD give us a surprise such a big one that i blackout... That would have to be a hell of a fast CPU to make me do that. I would like to see 4sec from AMD on super PI.

Nope! :banghead: If you know what an exponential graph looks like, then your claim would mean that AMD's cashflow would become INFINITY over time. Which in economics, is impossible!

the big problem for amd is money, intel has decided that competition from amd has become something to worry about so the are coming after it with both barrels. amd cant compete head to head so they are now relegated to taking intel designs and making them cheaper and easier to clock so they are going after the budget buyers and the overclockers market.

ati has almost the identical problem with nvidia so they are letting nvidia spend $ on all the advancements in arcitecture research and then ati will come out with a cheaper version that is close to the nvidia product in performance but not try to beat it in performance but rather they will beat it in price.

i believe they are thinking that end sales are whats most important so if you have better sales than intel or nvidia, who cares if they are a few points better on paper. this is just my opinion on the subject.

Err do what? K10 and Conroe are actually radically different. First off, number of stages is 11 for K10 vs Conroe's 13. Second, K10 is such much more biased to FPU than Conroe. Also Conroe excels in Integer compared to K10. The whole "true quad core" HTT, and a few other things.

infinite can't even be graphed...
and you must have misread or misunderstood me. what i meant is that with the introduction of the hd3000 series, their profits will increase exponentially for a while, not indefinitely. in economics, nothing lasts forever.

well of corse they are different because if they were the same it would be copywrite infringement but you can take what someone built, see how it was done, and then make one very much like it but cheaper and different enough NOT to infringe on copywrites. you can also add something to it to give it something the other companies product doesnt have.

so you let the intel and nvidia create the new products and all you have to do is change it enough to call your own and then add something extra to it. this saves the other company a buttload of $, its just good buisness practice.
