How do you save a professionally calibrated ICC color profile that is already in your Windows 10 system?

So my new Vivobook OLED 90hz came with a calibrated color profile and validated, but if I upgrade to windows 11, there is a chance I will lose it.

So my question is simple: I see the color profile, when I go to start menu, under Display I see it as the selected color profile, or if I right click on desktop, scroll down to advanced display settings, then 'display adapter properties for display 1', then color management, then color management again, I see the color profile there as well, but I don't see how to export save the file... I'd like to keep the file as a backup for when I upgrade this laptop to win 11 as this is a professionally calibrated color profile and my screen looks perfect and I don't want to lose it.

All color profiles are under C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color. Save whatever you need from there.

Won't do you much good though, precalibration is more of a marketing trick. Monitors require periodical recalibration because the backlight (for TFT) or subpixels (for OLED) change shades/intensity over time.

Especially oled if they run compensation cycles that reduce light output.

this worked, thank you. now when I do clean install of win 11, its same as win 10 right, i just transfer from usb drive these color profiles, right click 'install profile' --- then I simply go into display setting, color management as tigger was saying, then add color profile, set as default, reboot pc, and it should then be there under settings - display, as a drop down menu to pick from correct?

No idea, haven't switched so far.
Even if they changed it, pressing Win+Q and typing "color management" should point you in the right direction.

Do you have any idea what color space that profile is for? Because OLED is really good as doing wide gamut and HDR. It would be a shame to go to all this trouble only to set your monitor back to sRGB.

I'm not sure either. You can always install DisplayCAL and use that to take a look at profiles.

I've got displaycal installed, i went through all the settings, I still don't see where it says srgb or hdr or widegamut, etc. honestly i think it will be fine if i just go to win 11.

also hdr is easy to find out if its on or not, its literally a toggle within win 10 and win 11 settings... but the widegamut stuff, i dont know if thats changed in windows settings or not. hmm. i really don't think it would be an issue to go to win 11, but you got me a little worried now for sure.

I grabbed a Spider Pro (photo editing) so that I can recalibrate any time I want and just set the newest profile you save through its software.

Standard gamut usually has sRGB written somewhere. Wide gamut is usually AdobeRGB.
The real problem is you don't know what wide gamut looks like. If you saw it once, you can tell it apart from sRGB at a glance.

Check whether your monitor has an AdobeRGB or wide gamut mode in the menu. Turn it on, it will give you an idea of what you're looking for. If you apply your profile and colors look duller than that, you don't want that profile.

I just googled and found this from a legit site (so it seems it won't make any difference):

Does Windows 10 support Adobe RGB?

What I learned from this article is that Windows does not recognize Adobe RGB. Only software like Adobe Photoshop will be able to display Adobe RGB images correctly.
