Late reply, but that game would have been epic if anything would have had numbers. But it didn't, so you never knew how much damage anything did, or much health and armor units had. You had to play the game so much you just knew which units would decrease which units healthbars faster. And it's so sad, because that game was shock full of cool stuff. Spearmen getting an attack bonus when fighting uphill. Archers first shot deal double damage if the stamina bar is full. Ronin causes a AoE buff for allies and debuff for enemies when he dies. When Utara takes damage, nearby enemies are stunned. When the cannon guys idle animation plays nearby workers move faster (he puts his cannon on his head). So much really cool stuff, but none of it is actually presented in the game. Those abilites are only mentioned in the manual. And again, no numbers anywhere! Which is fine in games where you just throw heaps of troops around, but in this game you never have more than say 23 or so fighting units. It was pretty much a tagline for the game: Every unit matter! But you have to look in the manual and memorize how the 50+ different, unique units work against each other. And that is before all the battle gear!

I just loaded it up and did quick skirmish (which I badly lost of course) and ... it is so cool. The peasants just show up, at the same rate for everyone so you know all players have the same number of units in the game, but how have they trained theirs? This game with updated graphics and UI would be absolutely amazing. But the lack of any information is almost heartbreaking to me, because I've no idea what I'm doing or why. I train all those peasants and have a bunch of samurais, but what are they doing differently than the dragon warriors? I have no idea. The health bars are the same, but they do more damage, but I don't really know... And it doesn't launch with multiple monitors so I can't even have a cheat sheet on the second monitor.

Someone should really remake this. They can even skip the numbers, I'd absolutely play it.

I'm still excited for it. I love HW, but would love it to be a little more modernized in multiple ways.

I think all future games should just be halted right now, and re-done on the Unreal Engine 5, honestly, that Unreal Engine 5 is something else, its just jaw dropping gorgeous what it is capable of.

Stronghold is still my fav RTS game of all time. I'll never forget launch day, was way ahead of its time.

q4 22 is year away and game is developed by studio backed from publisher.
they have enough time to make good quality game.

I just couldn't get into Dune, I tried reading it, but it just wasn't for me sadly. Maybe if I had read it back in the day I would have liked it, but we live in a golden age of sci fi and fantasy at the moment, and if Dune were to come out now, I don't think it would have been as popular.

I can spend thousands of words explaining why Dune is the greatest work of fiction ever, but I won't. I read it first in like 2010 btw.

But I'm really tempted to do it, with a huge tangent on why the new movie isn't a great Dune movie.

If you can condense it into less than two paragraphs I'd be glad to read it. I also wonder how much you have NOT read of modern stuff. My recommendations: Heroes Die by Matt Stover, Hyperion by Dan Simmons, Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, and many more.

Hyperion is probably the second (or third depending on where I want to place The Mirror in the Mirror by Michael Ende) best piece of fiction I've ever read. Also, Hyperion is closer to Dune than it is to today.
