try amdvbflash -t 0 this should test bios on card. But this more looks like driver issue. Did you disconnect all internet connections before reinstalling drivers? Idk how yours gpu but my mining rx470 doesn't like it and windows installs MS drivers and normal drivers just don't work. Also might be corrupted bios so try flashing to some backup copy or something. EDIT: also use amdvbflash -ai 0 not amdvbflash -i 0, as -i shows currently running bios info and -ai shows bios writen to GPU rom. EDIT2: tried searching for some bios here but daaamn so many bioses.

for some strange reason, now I tried to flash custom edited bios. Okay, error reading rom. (Using same command as before amdvbflash -p -fa -fp 0 stock_twk2.rom) But couldn't write even the original rom. So guess i will have to again reboot on second bios, switch back to wiped bios and flash it there.
That syntax you are using is for ver 3.20+, 2.93 is easier to use

amdvbflash -t 0 shows a 'Pass'

Trixx still saying no RAM but still lists Adrenalin driver for some reason - even though I nuked it with DDU (in safe mode, no networking). Using Windows Update for Microsoft drivers instead for time being (same result re: graphics acceleration ie: none)...

here is a video of GPU that has something similar to you, with difference that it dies when it loads drivers. What I remember is he is saying about hardware problem with VRAM. I don't remember it very good so better watch it and try to find out if it has similar problems as your. Gl

no, I'm using only older version as I once tried newer and just couldn't find out what should I do. These are commands that I use with my old version.

Version 2.93 uses unlockrom and -f, not -fa or -fp

Thanks Creepy and eidairaman1 :toast: I will continue the struggle! ;-)

PS Without any drivers (and the GPU not even appearing in Task Manager "Performance" tab), the CPU was getting significantly hotter, even up to plus 20c at times!

Got a B550 AMD board btw so no onboard graphics.

what was the CPU usage? was it higher than while using dedicated gpu?

TBH I forgot to check CPU Usage - did noticed the fans spinning up more - for some reason, CPU temps are now *down* 20c or more - but they are definitely more erratic (at least, if MSI Afterburner readings are correct, as they are what I glance at in the taskbar). Now it's from a chilly 27c up to 44c (no inputs, just reading webpage). Still, on average, very cool compared to yesterday.

I have a Corsair A500 fan on the AMD 1600AF running @ around 3.5GHz.

afaik CPUs have some sort of rendering engine that can work as a GPU to render basic display view. Nothing powerful, but uses tons of cpu usage. Idk if this si true but heard about it. So your pc might be now using CPU to render instead of GPU. Gonna check it on google. But it has to work as in virtualmachine it works. No gpu, just CPU rendered image. Normal consumption on desktop is 90%
EDIT: Photo from Quora on question about software rendering with CPU https://www.quora.com/Is-it-possible-to-use-CPU-as-a-GPU

Nah, it wasn't using CPU for rendering, I think even browsing the web @ 1440p 144hz would've been impossible in that case. GPU is definitely doing something, just basic stuff, nothing accelerated.

did you try checking HWinfo? It might show something. Also try using GPU-Z. And did you recently flash bios on card? (maybe you said that but i don't remember)

I tried to backtrack to an earlier BIOS but then Windows wouldn't boot, stopped with some artefacting on screen - gave up and have pulled RX580 from system, using an old GTX960 now :(

Bit tired of the whole thing - have a 2nd PCI-E slot free I can put the Radeon back into and try to flash it from there but it's become a chore to deal with TBH :banghead:

that would be the best. Do you know exact device id and subsys id of your rx580? if yes, send me I'll try to find a bios for you that should work. Also memory size and manufacturer.

wait. There is polaris 10 but at the same time polaris 20. Which is it in reality? rx580 or rx480? and is it even 80? isn't it 70? I mean if it could be some kind of stupid bad bios flashed to it. And is it really 8GB? Look at some paper on GPU or something.

you might also flash version with wrong memory type (I mean samsung instead of hynix) EDIT: Hmmm found your bios on techpowerup.com and seems about right. Both vrams autodetect, rx580, 8GB, but I'm curious about that polaris10/20 stuff. Idk I'd try flashing it to polaris 10 bios. That might be an issue here.

Definitely an 8GiB RX580, says on box, on card and in drivers LOL

Can't see how to find out what memory it has now it's out of the PC, will need to slot it back in and check HWInfo I guess...

Hello
After all happened until now i suggest to open up the video card and to identity what kind of memory chips you have.
Not only the producer but most of all the amount.
The code from the chips will give us the answer.

he can just go to system and open gpu-z. It should show. And BIOS has autodetect both hynix and samsung. I'd say he was trying to flash and flashed wrong bios...

On the contrary. From my experience i saw GPU-z showing Hynix memory even i knew for sure because i opened it up(the card) that i had Samsung.
So sorry @Creepy but you are wrong.
It could be even Micron

Sorry mate it happened to me.
I thought i don't see right.
I knew because i just opened that damn card 5 min ago and i saw that i have Samsung, and GPU-z showed me Hynix.
I laughed and i flashed it with the right BIOS.

Lol. I'm not sure too as I had it opened but didn't look and didn't even take a pic. Everything says I have samsung but probably also got fucked and already know why I had bilions of errors on vram with custom bios from this site. Nvm, ordered fresh thermal pads and gonna repaste it again and take a sexy naked pic ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

What if.. I will flash.. my rx470 to rx480 bios? I heard it's possible.

Anything is possible :
You can flash RX480 in a 470 and vice versa.
The point is : does it work at 100% after that?
About thermal pads: i have bought and i took off the old ones, i put the new ones and i had temps with more than 5 degrees in + after that.
So..i took off the new ones and i put back the old ones.
The only thing i changed was the thermal paste from the GPU.

Oh, sho I should just keep them there. It's already repasted but wanted to change also them. Want to keep them cool. Problem is I don't have control about their temps. :( Also applied some paste on thermal pads themselves to get better contact as they are old and won't stick back. Well tenps dropped by around 10-20°C and now I'm even able to overclock it to draw 180W. Before barely did 120W :D
EDIT: Oh no. I see it. I will brick my little boy. Thanks god to the quad bios. Gonna flash it to rx570 then rx580. Wish me luck (not today tho, it's late I'm gonna sleep. Gn and Gl :) )

OMG it works!

Didn't stress test it yet but I will make sure it runs well. Hope I won't burn down my house :D EDIT: stress tested, seems stable. No errors, 130W tdp, 1366MHz. 1771 score heaven benchmark Extreme (Before 1800 on 1400MHz). As it didn't unlock any CU's it's actually pointless to do this. And seems like 500-series aren't even optimized better or something. It's the same chip with the same board and just modified name.
