God of War recently released on PC with support for NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR). In this mini-review, we take a look at and compare the image quality and performance offered by these technologies in this game.

Nice been playing this game all weekend. I'm on 3440x1440 Ultrawide and everything on ultra except for Shadows on High and FSR off.
From what I'm seen FSR ultra quality is decent for 1440p and 4k however I would not use it for 1080p DLSS looks far better at that low a resolution.

I've also been enjoying using RTSS and getting an overlay setup to monitor performance while I play been fun so far.

Ok, I'll ask it since I feel like an idiot...when I move the slider all the way to the right does that mean I'm seeing the full FSR image or full DLSS image?

DLSS. When you move the slider to the right you see the full "left" image (where DLSS is).
In addition, you can also use the dropdown menu to confirm (and check the FPS , 86 vs 84).

fuck, that sucks.

Think of the economy on GPU spending.... you are good getting a RX6500

Jokes aside... it seems this a console port done right... it has been a while since we saw something like that. Death Stranding maybe?

i can't even tell the difference on any of the resolutions when i adjust the slider.
try using the "maximize" button in the top center, and zoom in with mousewheel

I would love to see some comparisons of both of these to the built-in TAA upscaling as well.

Would be great to see a DLSS Sharpening slider included in a patch, the game is pin sharp with it on, but it seems to not suit everyone's tastes.

I too am sinking a lot of time into this game, it's bloody good so far.

Jokes aside? No fullscreen or FOV option, negative mouse acceleration, constant fps dips to over 50fps difference in a second? Constant crashing and (or) instability for a non-open-world game? If we give it like couple of months for patching and optimization like the HZD had, then maybe we could say it's a decent port.

Fire up my console and then compare it with all the pictures above, I can conclude that FSR is very similar to console version which is a little "nauseating" with their forced motion blur. Must be admitted that DLSS looks better than FSR, for close to medium range, parts like character movement and axe swings are more clear. For the environment and vegetation, it seems that the FSR is better because it matches the console version, where snow and fog shouldn't be too pronounced.

The only thing that kept me away was a coop Boss battle in Victor Vran and enjoying be able to play The Ascent again but God of War gets the 4K treatment on my 55".

I have a laptop with a 3060 will that comparison vs my 6800XT satisfy this thread? Is it fair in terms of GPU power?

The game does need some patching and AMD also has some work as they are not strong in DX11's.

As for crashing I haven't seen any on my system but I think it come down to resources. i've seen the game pushing system ram usage over 16GB's after a couple hours so if you don't have 32GB's that will be an issue. And i've also seen simliar behaviour with Vram I will start at 6.5GB then climb to 10GB after about 2 hours of play time.

The dev's are aware of the issues

I also hope AMD is continuing to work on improving FSR its only really usable in Ultra quality mode the rest just take to much of a hit on image quality.

The developers did a solid job on the FSR on this one I can tell 100%. This might even be a better demonstration of FSR than Godfall developers which says a lot since it's one of the better examples that comes to mind. I think the sharpness on FSR probably could be a hint sharper perhaps, but otherwise it's quite good. If this is the type of FSR was can get at the driven level soon that will be solid for people on RDNA 2 hardware.

In the video the birch tree's looked more natural with DLSS than with FSR for some reason or another could just be sharpness a bit. There were a couple of times where the sharpness it looked like went in and out of focus on the FSR, but didn't seem to on DLSS yet idk if it was a intended camera focus effect or possibly lod related. The opening cut scene section where they head outside to me the FSR to me looked more natural and nicer it seemed that was a bit of CAS doing it's thing, but I definitely liked the way the tone mapping made it come together better.

Benchmark Scores I got some numbers.
After seeing a number of these comparisons of DLSS vs FSR, I seem to come away each time thinking that 4K UQ FSR is not bad and I might use it if it was the only option between the 2 and I wanted more FPS without playing with other settings. But, now Ive seen it running for real (in DEATHLOOP), its awful. It reminds me of DLSS 1.0, the texture detail drop is hard to ignore.

Probably *depends on the game*. But FSR was a bad first impression for me.

Small side note. DLAA is nice! (again in DEATHLOOP)

I have found the "cure" with MorePowerTool and the 6800 in 4k ultra+ gives 67 fps and above.

That's why I've said it before that we actually don't need all these DLSS vs FSR comparison anymore. One can simply scroll right to the conclusion to find, DLSS = better image quality, FSR = Not bad. That is generally the conclusion no matter how people write it. Ultimately when you game, most people don't scrutinise the image quality to such an extend. As long as Kratos is not missing his limbs due to graphic upscaling issue, not a murky mess of an image, or not crawling with unplayable FPS, I guess nobody gaming will actually bother.

I think this is a fair conclusion.

I have met zero problems on my 1080ti on 2K rez... stable 60FPS. The only thing I turned down from ultra to high are shadows and Ambient Occlusion as original. Other than that... Flawless. I don't even need to engage FSR.

It could be AMD to blame this time.

you cap fps at 60 for stability? you don't have a high refresh monitor?

also off topic: i just noticed that is an audiophile tube in your profile picture!!! nice!!! i really regret getting rid of all my tubes and my tube amp. :(

How is overclocking your GPU the cure to a memory leak in the game?

I've been playing with DLSS, but after seeing these screenshots i'm gonna switch over to FSR for this game. The DLSS image sharpening is too much in this game giving lots of halos around high contrast edges, which can easily be seen on the tree branches is the first screen shot. I really wish DLSS was implemented with a sharpness slider in every game it is deployed with, same for FSR.
