AMD Market Cap Now Higher Than Intel's After Xilinx Acquisition

keep in mind, no intel alder cpu ever sold out, intel was able to meet demand with their own fabs. now when intel enters the gpu market, if they really do have a 3070 ti killer at the right price... and employ their fabs to go hardcore on it... it is very very possible intel will skyrocket over AMD, cause AMD forever reliant on sharing TSMC fab time with others.

6 months from now is going to look very interesting. i think intel is probably hiding something up their sleeve, possibly even stockpiling the 3070 ti killer as i type this.
Ahh the zombie misunderstanding that just won’t die. Intel is making ALL its discrete GPU chips at TSMC. GPU supply will become more constrained with Intel getting the smallest slice of the fab share pie due to late entry.

My take is that Intel will mostly release mobile GPU chips in abundance this year. Discrete GPU chips will ship in small quantities to far flung OEMs and Chinese internet cafes this year.

edit: And right on cue, a story at Videocardz about DG1. Same thing could happen with DG2 in the first six months of availability.

Of course. Intel also has 6x the revenue. Their annual profits alone exceed AMD's annual revenue. They're still a behemoth when it comes to the operational scale. Doesn't seem to show up in the market cap for reasons I don't fully understand.

Sir, this is a casino!

It makes you wonder what AMD would be able to do if they had Intel's budget and resources.
No, it doesn't. If AMD had the same budgets as intel, they will do exactly what the later do.

People should understand that this is a business after all. Companies need to be just slightly competitive if they want large profit margins.
If companies make significantly better products than their competitors, they will lose a lot of money in the long term. It's simple - spend lots on R&D, make better products, your competitors start spending more on their R&D, competitors make significantly better products, you need to spend even more just to be considered by the market.
The above is especially valid with duopolies like intel and AMD. Irony is that they need to spend on R&D just enough to get a slight edge.
But of course that's only for the mainstream segment. It's way more complicated with emerging niches and advanced stuff, although that's only until it become mainstream.

I hope the competition becomes even better and brings more interesting products for consumers. My only fear is marketing BS from all vendors and presenting features of products in dishonest way.

Every child in a secondary school should have one year subject Marketing, to become aware of dirty tricks companies use to present their product in unrealistic way.

Yes, customers certainly benefit a lot if companies go all-in on product development, but that is not a good business plan.

Ah yes, the meaninglessness that is market cap. If you think AMD passing Intel is funny, check Nvidia's for extra giggles. I guess some are really good at marketing and selling BS stories to Wall Street.
Agreed. While I think AMD is right where they belong irrespective of Intel's position, Nvidia is the real laugh. I think they are way overvalued. That's probably where Intel should be and Nvidia and AMD should be relatively closer. But that's just not how things work I guess.

Not after this merger nope, not even close!

Pre merger ~

AMD today announced revenue for the fourth quarter of 2021 of $4.8 billion, operating income of $1.2 billion, net income of $974 million and diluted earnings per share of $0.80.

Starting with quarterly results, for the fourth quarter of 2021, Intel reported $20.5B in revenue, which is a small jump of 3% over the year-ago quarter.
Looking only at Q4 2021 is the best-case cherry-pick for AMD, to be candid. It was AMD's best quarter ever, and it was an average quarter for Intel. I stand corrected that the 6x claim is a bit outdated, but full-year 2021, Intel was still 5x the revenue of AMD. 16B vs 80B full year.

wow Intel is dumb as shit. LOL

why not use their own fabs? they could have negotiated with the government when Biden just infused them when tens of billions of dollars in national security funding to get chip production going here, they could have just asked for a few billion more to get w.e extra machines they needed on top of the fab production... i mean we already spent what 6 trillion on covid? whats another 20 billion when your just printing funny money anyway?
They literally don't have the capacity at their leading edge nodes. They sell every single chip they can make.

They're investing 25-30B every year for the next 3 years to get more leading-edge capacity. They can't just pull it out of thin air overnight. ASML currently has a lead time of 18-24 months for their EUV machines.

Wait what??!!?

Don’t all Intel’s foundry’s count for something??
It is "priced in". Owning their own foundry is the reason why Intel's profit margins are better than the likes of AMD/Nvidia/Qualcomm or any other chip design company. But foundaries are also a depreciating asset... less and less valuable as time passes by and they go from being leading-edge to legacy nodes.

And yet the numbers don't include Xilinx which would be close to another billion, like I said not even close to 6x :ohwell:

AMD 2021 - $16.2 B
Xilinx 2021 - $3.2 B
------------
Jointly - $19.4 B
Intel 2021 - $79 B

Therefore, Intel's revenues are x4 and slowing down

I beg you... wake up to reality! Since 2019, Intel has had three sockets: 1151, 1200 and 1700. They create new sockets faster than it takes a woman to complete her pregancy period! Ridiculous.

Plus, womb can used again. Intel sockets are literally dead for any upgrades from a get go. Anti-consumer behaviour in its heart. If you want any upgrade whatsoever, you must buy entirely new platform and spend a lot of money. Thank you for more e-waste.

And I have both Intel and AMD systems at home. My Intel board was dead for CPU upgrade on the first day it was released.

Ah, AMD surpassed Apple too, a company whose market cap can most simply be described to a layman as "$∞".

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
Interesting statistic but Intel still has all the money and enough OEMs captive (or suffering from Stockholm Syndrome) to still ruin everything in the PC industry again.
