At $650, the Backforce One Plus is one of the most expensive chairs we have evaluated so far, but its futuristic design and impeccable build quality and ergonomics go a long way in justifying its pricing. If you have the money to buy it, you won't regret it!

10 year warranty is nice, if they honour it. Be curious how it compares to a steelcase or Aeron, etc. grade chair in the same price category??

This has all the hallmarks of a nasty Chinese gaming chair, including fake leather at an eye-watering price tag and five-dimensional armrests that transcend our three-dimensional reality!

It looks like a nasty piece of shit, but would appear to be an actually okay chair made by a company that knows how to make decent chairs. I'm somewhat confused, disgusted, and interested all at the same time.

Yeah, PU leather seems like a miss at this price point.

Still feels like we need a short, meme benchmark page to the review, where all the metrics remain unchanged.

Sorry, just looks like every other "gaming chair". Probably made in the same factory as all the others. No real innovation here or concern with ergonomics.

More-or-less, yeah.

Probably made in the same factory as all the others.

Article explicitly states that's not the case. Most are made in China, this one in Germany.

No real innovation here

Partial construction from wood is at least unusual.

It's weird for sure, and the design bears more in common with those nasty bucket-seat gaming chairs than anything else, yet this does appear to be actually adjustable, actually well-made, and the stupidity of bucket-seat side bolsters is pretty mild here, especially at shoulder height where you need freedom and not to be hunched in by the 'wings' in most garbage-tier designs.

One of the key factors in good ergonomics is freedom of motion. This ticks the boxes of "looks like stereotypical gamer chair" without actually being as dumb or restrictive as one.
I'm not sure the price justifies faux-leather or all of the plastic parts and I'm not a fan of the looks but it's hard to deny that this isn't a decent chair for actually sitting in for long periods.

From the summary post at the top of this very page:
I accept that the advertising states "Made in Germany" but that phrase is a nebulous one. There should be caution in assuming the whole chair is made in Germany. It may be that certain components are manufactured in Germany and the remainder in China where the chair is put together. The chair may be constructed in China and amending components added in Germany. Most likely in my view all the components are Chinese made and the chair is constructed in Germany. Of course it could also be that all the components and the chair are made in Germany, but I doubt it. There only needs to be some involvement in the manufacturing of the chair for a "Made in Germany" claim to be made.

To my eye, this chair looks the same as all the other "gaming chairs" out there. It is clearly working to a tired old template. A good office chair would be better.

Philipp from Backforce here. I wanted to answer a few of the points mentioned here in the comments:

"Made in Germany" really means Made in Germany. If you are curious, here is a video made by a German pc magazine that visited our production in Meßstetten and follows the production and assembly of a Backforce (sadly only in German):

Also, we are a brand of Interstuhl, a office furniture manufacturer with over 60 years in the market and as such bring a bit of expertise with us - unlike some opponents that are producing in China....

Let me know if you have any other questions and I will try my best to answer them!

I love it when a manufacturer gets involved with the review comments.
Do you have plans to offer a real leather version? As you can see, a few of us aren't enticed by plastic faux-leather at this price point.

Presumably the covering is a relatively small part of the overall cost and a leather version could be offered at similar profit levels without incurring much more of a premium?
I'm not an upholstering expert but I know leather costs increase exponentially depending on how large you want unbroken pieces of leather to be. Since there is a lot of variety to the design with different panels and textures, it doesn't look like using genuine leather would make it too much more expensive as you'd be using multiple small panels of napa and alcantara instead of one big panel.

I do not speak German but enjoyed watching your posted video nonetheless.

As a manufacturer of office furniture, can you outline the main differences between the construction of an office chair as against a gaming chair, at least for your products?

We are currently doing some thinking regarding real leather and might just ask the community about it. I will post the link here as well, in case anybody wants to leave a vote!

Regarding the difference between the construction of an office chair and gaming chair: no real difference when it comes to production: same high quality materials, similar processes and similar (ergonomic) features. Only difference is the target group and the design of the chairs. And of course the price point (we do sell directly and not through intermediaries or resellers, which would increase the price).

This looks fantastic! Hopefully we will see some of these available in the Americas (specifically, South) someday.

Please consider making a heavy duty version rated for like 180 to 200 kg, too...

lol I am sitting on the bespoke nasty Chinese gaming chair rated for 150 kg right now, the gas lift broke under my weight (I weigh exactly that) a long time ago and it cannot keep itself up anymore, its actually pretty bad, thing is like a year old lol

I am surprised the faux leather hasnt begun to rip itself yet

You should consider investing in a heavy-duty task chair that's rated for big boys.

Regardless of your size or weight, future you will thank present you for the investment in a chair that lets you maintain a good posture for prolonged periods. I am barely half your weight and yet sometimes I can feel the burden of my own mass on vertebrae and sit-bones when WFH slouched on the sofa instead of at my proper desk. It doesn't get any better as you get older, something I can attest to myself, and people 10 years my senior have been explaining to me for the past three decades!

As mentioned before, here the link to our vote regarding a real leather Backforce to gauge the interest:

Of course open to additional questions if there are any!

This looks fantastic! Hopefully we will see some of these available in the Americas (specifically, South) someday.

Thanks! Currently we are only selling in (western) Europe but this might change in the future! We will def. keep our community up to date in that regard.
Regarding the heavy duty version: I will pass it on for sure, who knows? :)
