I hope there's a huge increase in minimum fps, and the IF is stronger.

You should skip 2k and go to 4k. 1440p is nice but the scaling for some games and emulators is a real PITN. 720p scales perfectly to 1080p and 1080p scales perfectly to 2160p. Nothing scales to 1440p very well and ends up looking like crap at times. I'm trying to decide on a pair of 4k displays for my main rig. Not easy. Been dragging my feet on a platform upgrade as well. I'm look favorably at the 12700k, but if there is a specific benefit to the massive amount of 3D cache these CPU's will have, that will likely swing my choice.
Right now 4K is a joke. When 4K 144 Hz displays will be widely available, then we could speak again about 4K. If I’m the meanwhile a new GPU will be released (even a 3080 isn’t really good for 4K).

Sadly there are still games that depend the most on the raw single core performance.
5800x -> max boost 4.7 Ghz
5800x3d -> max boost 4.5 Ghz
That's based on AMD specs. We'll see how it translates to 1-4 core workloads.
My 5800X constantly boost at 4850 MHz. AMD specs are very conservative because of the criticisms received with Zen 2.

That is an opinion not supported by merit.

I would be happy with a 5900X3D.

Honestly, a 5900X3D and 5950X3D would be ideal. If we're lucky, we might get that later this year as a surprise finale for AM4, considering AMD did have a test sample 5900X3D that they used to help validate 3D cache. As well, it requires building up a bigger stock of better binned CCXs w/ 3D Cache before AMD could even viably market 3D versions of the 5900X and 5950X.

That said, the gradual price reduction to the 5950X does make a good case for releasing the X3D version at the original price point above the 5950X.

I bet they are saving that for the 12900KS launch. I hope, atleast :)

Unless the performance increase is small, i really, really want to get this for myself.

5800x3d in main gaming system, 5800x in VR system = happy Mussels

(and then i can carefully move my 2700x with broken pins, to a spare crappy MSI B450 i have)

To stay within the selected TDP yes.

But your free to manually, OC and get equal speeds compared to a normal 5800x.

you are joking right? I got a 4k144HZ bought last year and a 6900xt and there is 1 game I played that had a problem running maxed out settings native 60FPS. That is the CP2077. 3080 is more than capable at 4K.

I'm probably not going to switch to the 5800X3D but i do want to see what it can do and mostly, the price for that one.

Curious as well on real world performance. I've heard alot about it catching up to the 12900 gaming performance but that's not a huge performance jump over the regular 5800x (5800x is only like 8-10% slower than the 12900 at 1080p and around 5-6% slower at 1440p).

Price will be interesting as well (5800X is already going down as low as $299 in the States, if they want $400-450 for the 58003d then that's a hard pass).

I'm interested in the chip also but the reviews will tell all. I'm gaming at 3440x1440p so cpu performance is less of an impact that at 1080p.

If the past is any indication it’s going to be most advantageous to low to mid resolution & image qualities.

Now, if it can free up data holds between cores/threads, & help maintain stable FPS on higher taxed GPU systems at lower CPU load, & lower GPU power usage, that’s worth looking at.

It's going to help to anyone who isnt GPU limited

As a 3090 owner who turns a lot of that crap off (motion blur, etc etc) even at 1440p i have GPU power to spare

As a lowly 3080Ti owner I turn blur & other stuff off as well, but I like image quality. At 7680x1040 I hit 110% TDP tonight & 109% last night with 99.8 & 100% GPU usage respectively.

Well I was expecting this CPU a lot but now I will skip this and wait 1 more year to upgrade to AM5. I'm gaming on 1080p so my 3600x is doing well with my 3070ti.
