What's the sweet spot router now in terms of price and spec ? Like, obviously $10 is too little to get performance for anything more demanding than like 10mbps internet, but $280 also seems like far too much for most people.

I've been wondering too. You first need to decide whether you need mesh routers or not, the price range is entirely different for mesh, before even considering that you need more than one.

This never advertised itself for WiFi-6E anyway, the 160 Mhz channel is more than to allow faster traffic over WiFi 6 primarily.

I've been wondering too. You first need to decide whether you need mesh routers or not, the price range is entirely different for mesh, before even considering that you need more than one.

More importantly, decide whether you want WiFi 6/6E at all, since that's the primary reason for expensive networking gear now. I'd say something like this Gryphon AX is the sweet spot for many looking into a more future proof set in that you get WiFi 6 as well as integrated mesh networking support for future expansion. If this is too much, then you would be better off with WiFi 5 (wireless AC) instead than going with a more budget option just for WiFi 6.

Maybe you want to let us know what your usage is going to be.
I would say anything from Asus that can run the Merlin firmware, so you know you're going to get regular updates.

No, there are at least two possible 160 MHz wide channels in the 5 GHz band. It depends where you live though.
UNII-4 will add a third one from 149 to 177.
WiFi 7 on the other hand will allow for 80+80, as in non-contiguous 160 MHz channels, which should allow for a lot more flexibility.
