Blizzard isn't what it was ever since Diablo 3. The RMAH was the most blatant sign corporate money was going to win over solid business 'with' customers. The business from that point onwards was going to happen one way or another, customer happy or not. Why? Because it showed them how stupid kids with money are, and how easily they keep asking for more even if you take it from them. They also learned a thing or two about the public and popular opinion: 'If we look like, and tell customers that we are listening to them all the time, they believe it'.

They forgot that trust was built over the course of decades and has probably been completely lost over the course of less than a few business decisions.

That's why they asked us if we didn't have a phone. New markets bro! New idiots to fool! New trust to build and betray!
I just had to get that off my chest.
they take a lot but don't give any more.
before you could chat with a GM about whether he prefers to drink Pepsi or Coke... sure that's really unnecessary and shallow.
but you could always turn to them when something went wrong. and that was at a time when this game, WOW, had about 12 million subscribers.
the half in about has remained. actually, it should be no reason to greed here only on maximum profit alone.

its pity.

this buyout is a disaster for the gaming industry..
... Some would go further and say that most buyouts from the last 10 to 20 years were a disaster in the making

No matter how it is considered, this buyout is a disaster for the gaming industry..
I would say it can't get worse than it already was, so maybe its a blessing in disguise. If anything, MS seems to have some bottom end of quality that they try to uphold and also some reasonable bottom end of doing business. Is it ideal... no... but its certainly not the worst possible I think. Innovation won't come from Blizzard anymore anyway, that ship has sailed since WoW.

That I can agree with.

Although, I'm not sure what will come from Microsoft - the company that takes everything away that users love, and replaces it with something completely different in every second OS they release.

Come to think of it, the disaster was gaming becoming an industry.

Can you imagine anyone in a studio working for big publishers going into a meeting and saying "but this is not fun/challenging/polished enough"?

Exactly, anything that goes full mainstream commercial is basically the end of the good things. It happens in music too. Pop is easily the bottom of the musical barrel. Festivals are remarkably similar and the most direct in showing how that works. Once mainstream picks it up, it explodes and loses everything that gave it character, a side effect of catering to the masses.

true and pity. I didn't take all those who expressed this opinion years ago for what they were.

This is why I'd say indie titles from never-heard-of studios are the new games. What the mainstream calls games are more like attention distraction devices for the masses, aka Generic Shooter 34553.

Companies have taken the artistry and creativity out of a lot of what it released. It's sad and even pathetic is some cases.
Yep, it's all about what they can do to make the most money. People want better looking graphics, but they aren't optimizing it so soon games will require their own separate SSD for one damn game. Does anyone else remember back when we didn't care if a game had the best graphics as long as it had good game play? To use the tired joke, Pepperidge Farm remembers.

And now we have loot boxes and the incoming idea of NFTs. I don't know about you guys, but the gaming industry looks like it's nothing more than a gigantic cash grab for the big names.

Want stuff to go back to how it was? Don't be buying that shit. Support indie game companies instead, that's where the true innovation will come from.

I am always unwilling to tread after others! however, this company is already light years away from the described...
