I am surprised that Cyberlink still exists and so is their PowerDVD. I used to use PowerDVD, but with Bluray, it was a pain to use. There are a lot of compatibility issues and software tends to not run play Bluray properly. In the end, I ditched PC as a Bluray player, and got a PS4 and subsequently an Xbox One X to be used as a Bluray player.

I haven’t had any issues with Blu-ray on PC and it applies all the effects like true motion, sharpening, noise reduction, artifact removal, etc…

That being said I spent a good amount of time working through codecs and apps like shark007 to get everything setup I like it.

Streaming from my PC to our other TVs is still a little glitchy through cyberlink sometimes, but anything local over HDMI is flawless.

Cyberlink also does video editing software that a lot of people like youtubers & content creators use (power director/director suite) so i guess they are still making money on that front to keep the company alive.

PowerDVD 17 - I think that's the version I picked up years ago. About once a year there's some update to install for it and I haven't had any issues running blu-ray movies on it on my PC. I rarely just watch off the disc because I tend to rip it and put the movie on my Plex server. When I do run a video and it launches through PowerDVD I don't have any issues with it. The only real reason I got a copy of this was so I could run blu-ray movies on my PC if I wanted to.

I've never been bothered enough to look at the other 2 or 3 programs that came with it....one appeared to be some kind of picture and/or video editing software. I'm not even sure what the other 1 or 2 programs do. Oh well. Good to see they're still active as a company.

I never paid the upgrades. IF the full version wasn't included, I didn't use it.

The project is still going, just not like before. Mostly focusing on maintenance and fixes.

MPC-Black Edition (MPC-BE) is the actual project that tries to compete with other video players like Potplayer and VLC. Still, I couldn't find a video player that can play all the videos I have like PotPlayer and VLC (The dev of Potplayer is one of KMplayer devs which got ridden by bloat and sometimes malware). PotPlayer is my main media player because I need the 1,5x zoom function while VLC doesn't have. And I find it able to play even rare audio files . Anything I throw at PotPlayer from video or audio plays well except the new google video format VP9 which then I use VLC for.

You need SGX to play 4k UHD. Intel deprecated SGX and they're not available on current-gen processors. They did so due to numerous security flaws with the instruction set.

Well, if you're talking about like Netflix, you're probably watching compressed UHD content at possibly an even way lower resolution such as 720p cap if you're using Chrome. Gotta use a TV or Edge to get it up to UHD even... Netflix being the garbage it is.

Though, even at full quality it still lacks the typical HDR you get on UHD Blu-Ray, which is a nice bonus considering one to have a half-fancy VA panel TV that boasts decent HDR like the Sony I have here...

however, throwing all that aside... it's all CD media and horribly overpriced at that...
