This is easily the most impressive example I've seen of a product that is built to last. Absolutely gold standard stuff. Microsoft, you did good here.
I bought my Xbox 360 USB controller in March 2015 for AU$30 and, aside from some soft plastic wear, everything still works just fine compared to the new one I just received.
To put this into perspective: In the last 7 years I've played all of my many hours of time playing GTA5, Project Cars 2, Forza Horizon 5, Rocket League, BeamNG.Drive, Mad Max, Test Drive Unlimited 2, Skyrim, Fallout 4, Tomb Raider series, old Need For Speed games and a bunch of other random shenanigans.
Total hours of use....probably approaching 5,000 hours if I were to make an estimate based on how much I've played those games.
I have only disassembled my old controller once in recent times (one month ago) to put some silicone grease on the mechanisms, and also swap the joystick pads (which are still original) left-to-right.
