Why Nvidia is getting stuck on the GTX 1XXX series naming in the last few years? Are we talking about the same Nvidia that rebranded old GPU dies to "newer series" for years in an attempt to woes customers?

customers at these price points don't know/care about numbers, and Nvidia GTX is probably better recognized for an outsider/someone that doesn't follow closely then RTX anyway

Honestly, if nvidia put the TU116 chip, this could have been a very interesting GPU, because it would have had 7th gen NVENC, and would not require a 6 pin. For some use cases, this could actually be a boon.

That would indeed be interesting, but I doubt they have a sufficient volume of TU116 that is that defective - there are a few TU116 1650 SKUs, after all. TU117 seems a given for this.

Yeah I'd not even be surprised if Nvidia bought those, gave them a refurb treatment and sold them as new again.

At this point apparently, anything goes. I mean, what is this, honestly? Is this Nvidia releasing a single Intel Arc Killer here? :D Spec wise it seems about right...

Season 5 Lol GIF by Real Husbands of Hollywood

I think that is likely exactly what it is, an attempt to counter the (eventual) happearance of arc when Intel finally decides to launch them. Several rumours pointed at very agressive prices on the lower end and the Intel a3xx cards are fully featured with displays, encode and their matrix engine stuff that will likely be very interesting (let's see if interesting good or bad though lol).

Their "latest" mx450 and mx550 "mobile" (it's all tu117 like this one) were also likely not seing a lot of demand since AMD apus are already very close if not better and even Intel apus are serviceable enough to not warrant an extra SoC even for marketing purposes.

I guess it's good to see the 1030 and 730 and all that crap get replaced? Though I can't imagine this being a particularly attractive proposition, considering that an RX 6400 matches the 1650 and the 6500 XT beats it soundly. Even accounting for both of those losing ~10% performance on PCIe 3.0 this will be slower than the 6400. And at least here in Sweden, you can get an RX 6500 for less money than any 1650.

Basically, those 1030/730 really need to go, with APUs getting better and AMD lower end offerings and incoming Intel Arc (soon^TM) price will dictate if these are worth a damn or not. Ultimately this is great either way, competition is returning at the various price points including low end, something that would have been hard to predict during a silicon and supply chain crunch

I wonder if Nvidia will ever make a 30TDP sub £/$50 card ever again.

pats my GT 1030

Nope, though I'd love to be wrong. Sub-100 isn't viable. 1030 launched at 80 because that's how much it needed to cost to make anyone any money. There's no reason to expect its successor to cost the same or less five years later.

Hopefully its LHR as well to prevent miners from gobbling up all the supply

You might have missed this. At any rate it's a 4GB GPU, which should make it unattractive to miners, even setting aside that cryptos have been falling for a while now (Aethereum's value has more than halved compared to 6 months ago).

Q2 RTX is a fine display of everything that is wrong with Realtime RT. The magic wears off fast and the processing power is ridiculous for the end result you get. The cherry on top? Nine out of ten times the so called accurate lighting of RT is plain wrong, out of place, and reveals itself as a calculation not unlike any other, albeit very expensive.

The most prominent 'feature' of that, is that it shows your old card is lacking hardware to run something you probably didn't care about with a proper rasterized lighting implementation that has every potential to look just as good and run faster.

AMD might have a much stronger long term strategy here by limiting their dedicated RT hardware. Seeing as card TDPs are going through the roof with its competitor that is adamant to keep pushing it, and with prolonged and increasing pressure on resources and production capacity... Its really going to be interesting how this develops. RT only for the happy few will die a certain death, that much is certain.
TBH, as an RTX3080Ti owner I kinda agree. Don't notice much difference in game apart from a drip in fps and your gpu gets hot

Hi,

What do you expect from a performance oriented forum? Apart from casual (or retro) gamers to play things like minecraft, rocket league or CS:GO they are to improve video and graphics on older machines, those with crap intel onboard graphics or those which are power limited.
If you are on here there is a high chance these cards aren't for you.
My first GPU was a 730 as my PSU had no additional power connectors. I learned a lot building that machine and I could play games such as Bioshock and Dirt rally with no problems. It was better than an iGPU.

This. I could play, literally hundreds of games on a 4GB GPU at 1080p. Because i know what those graphical settings do and what my hardware can do.
This being an enthusiast forum, has a lot of people that think their games will not start on 8GB cards and that 12GB are the minimum requirement. No surprise on that pool.

Hi,
I bought a evga 980ti gaming b-stock January 2021 but it was only 150.us for 6gb card just before mining crapola hit I believe
Wish I would of gotten two or three they were selling upwards of 400.us

This, regardless of how people are hating on the 6500XT it is a very compelling 1080P card. The thing that kills me is the size of the Die. If this card gets a high clock speed it might surprise some.

They are now grabbing stuff from the garbage bin and selling it. :>
Nvidia has always done that, just look at the whole MX series found in thin notebooks, the problem was AMD going to TSMC and cutting brandnew garbage on a new process and proceed to sell it at inflated MSRP. They just had to do something about it, don't you think?;)

i think similar too if rumors show arc a380 could launch at 150us with 6gb ddr6 96bit, if is this be real leave in shame actual nvidia and amd gpu in vram capacity because offer 50% more vram at more or less similar rx 6400 price

as your said with complete decode / encode capabilities and better pci-e lanes because arc possible use 8x lanes, with this dont be show problems in pci-e gen3* machines like more users have now

*dont like rx 6500 xt and rx 6400 on pci-e gen3

:)

A pity it is based on TU117, which has the old Volta NVENC.

Looks like they've seen the 6500XT and 6400 release and saw that they can release garbage tier cards at inflated prices and get away with it in this market. Why let the competition eat that low end cake? Hey, at least it's not as crippled in some ways

The GTX 1630 is based on the GTX 1650 featuring a 12 nm Turing TU117-150 GPU with 512 CUDA cores and 4 GB of GDDR6 memory on a 64-bit memory bus.
Dear NVidia,
Really with the 64bit memory bus? How about a pair of middle fingers for you instead? 128bit memory bus or GTFO...

LOL.

What's next, a re-release of the 550ti? After all it was super popular, why not? Apparently people buy anything.

If this gonna be cheaper than 6500xt and on par with it, then worth it I guess.
