Farming Simulator 22 has recently been updated to support AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 (FSR 2.0), making it the second game to fully support FSR 2.0. In this mini-review, we take a look and compare the image quality and performance offered by FSR 1.0, FSR 2.0, and DLSS.

A good writeup.

Although I must resist posting more! With the current things going on around the globe everything will eventually trigger someone. :D

FSR 2.0 is very close to DLSS in image quality, but performance-wise, DLSS is superior.

Uhhh...

If you look carefully at the 4K image, in the top left hand corner where the cables are visible. DLSS clearly does a much better job of retaining the fine wires and therefore enhances the realism, playability and enjoyability of this Farming Simulator. Chalk up another win for DLSS. DLSS 5.X will be even better!

Ouch, not nearly as strong as their first showing in deathloop.

Scratch that, just poor method of showing performance.

There's an issue here, you've neglected to show performance on a 6800XT for an AMD vs NVIDIA fps using fsr. 2.0.

What exactly do you find lacking? This is honestly a closer result than it was in Deathloop.

@maxus24 are we sure the DLSS performance numbers are right? Or is your statement that DLSS performance is better incorrect?

Maybe you mean image quality "performance" is better?

The TPU comparison doesn't show it, but there are some egregious ghosting / after images in motion with FSR 2.0.

There's also a weird "checkerboard" effect on the left-most branch of the right-most tree in that screenshot. As hyped as this tech is, I can't say I'm a fan. For every cherry picked screenshot showing it working well there always seems to be another showing "temporal trailing issues" that I find 1,000x more distracting than simply not overbuying and getting caught up in the 'I bought a new monitor that's too high resolution vs my GPU's ability to provide stable frame rates at native res' rat-race in the first place. I'd rather play high frame rate 1080p than put up with some of this temporal smearing upscaled stuff I've seen that's strangely reminiscent of a 1990's Video CD's primitive MPEG 1 compression's inability to handle fast camera pans...

So many people fail to compare in CONTEXT. Nvidia has had far more time to work on their tech than AMD and far more funds....Why do people just expect AMD to be as far along as Nvidia despite Nvidia's massive headstart? I expect that kind of thought process from your everyday, uninformed consumer, not enthusiasts.... It's impressive what AMD is able to do here WHILE being able to be used on a much wider field of hardware. They obviously have more work to do, but that should be expected as FSR will be a perpetual "work in progress" just like DLSS. I'm excited to see where FSR will be in six months and after being integrated into a AAA title with a proper budget in both time and funds. I t5

AMD's FSR is meant to compete with DLSS as it exists today, if there are issues, shortcomings etc, they should absolutely be highlighted so it can be fed back for improvement. Nobody gets a pass because they don't have a head start, especially when we can readily compare all technologies in the same games. I certainly don't expect FSR to be as far along and mature, but it's hardly exempt from criticism, just as DLSS isn't and rightly shouldn't be.

Absolutely agreed, and while issues are important to highlight, so is celebrating what it does well, like achieving broadly ballpark DLSS image quality right out of the gate, and working across more hardware.

Does context really matter? It's a comparison of directly competing end products, the way they're delivered to the consumer. I'd say all of them are light years ahead of dumb, raster scaling done by monitor's built-in scaler, so I'm really happy this technology is moving forward. I don't really want to buy a new GPU in the foreseeable future and reasonable quality scaling will surely help with that.

I was dumb enough to buy in to the DLSS RT hype and buy a RTX2080 instead of a way way way cheaper same raster performance 1080 Ti. As an early adoptor who does not forget.. DLSS actually lowered FPS in any high frame rate scenario... Whilst I also admit FSR 1 was equally garbage it has taken AMD like 1/4 the time to launch FSR 2.0 and give massive improvements in both performance and quality and NEITHER have reduced performance.

I had a 3090 Early on and sold it for so much profit I picked up a 6700XT for literally £15 based on the money I had made off the 3090...using DLSS on the 3090 was foul, the quality changes and scope issues on say COD Black Ops Cold War was actually laughable... In any DLSS quality sniper scopes were 8bit.

After trying the 5700XT and being totally irritated with minor moronic issues (such as 155hz Freesync being an issue - wheres the same monitor was smooth on gsync) well... Driver issues fullstop... AMD are growing, getting better and hungry for it, where as NVIDIA like INTEL are slow and fat and just ticking over.

AMD MAY be working HARDER to catch up, but they've already overtaken DLSS either way in my opinion as FSR works on a much much wider variety of hardware.

The biggest issue by far though is not the performance of GPUs or Enhancing Tech... It's lazy game developers, like Bethesda "mimorly" updating the fallout 4 engine (which already sucked hard) to give everyone an awful experience, same goes with most games.

I give Bungie a lot of crap, but Destiny 2s Engine is olddd but that game is beautiful and performances incredibly well.

I actually think most games are rushed out now, marketing hype, investor profits, stock etc it's all rushed... And we don't need to see anything further than Battlefield for that.

Don't get me started in Investors and Stocks because they ruin absolutely everything.

Was that really the best image to use? Over a third is just asphalt, with the sky taking ~20%, not a lot going on there.

Also, am I losing my mind or does FSR1 look better than 2 on a number of things :S :S

In my opinion, when you really need to be scrutinizing the image to try and nit pick on differences, this itself a testimony that Nvidia DLSS is in trouble. When you are actually playing a game, you would be hard pressed to find any difference. FSR 2.0 proves that you can still do a good job with upscaling without the supposed need for Tensor cores, which Nvidia is marketing as the driver behind DLSS. What this means to us is that we have been offered a product that could have been beefier on specs for better rasterization performance, but instead that die space have been allocated to Tensor cores that have questionable benefits for gamers. People with non RTX cards are also artificially being deprived of upscaling technology. Could Nvidia take the same approach as what AMD did here? With their resources, I am pretty sure they can do it and perhaps even better than AMD. Yet they chose to get their customers to buy select hardware in order to use this feature is not really consumer friendly.
