At least now all know where all those GPUs been all this time. Crypto miners had a splendid time with all the GPUs they got from NV. If you guys think NV didnt sell all those to miners remember they have refused to disclose profits from card sold to miners. Now the market is flooded but it would seem the prices are still high for NV cards. Bummer huh.
4000 series delayed, makes you think, Is NV waiting for another mining activity increase? God hope not.
Ofc they are waiting for mining, nv dgaf about anyone

Intel and Nvidia are usually ruthless with their pricing in general when they have peformance dominance in the market.
ZEN 1/2/3 brought down those 14nm Intel over priced CPUs down.

It's only strong competition form AMD that we even have cheap 10nm Alder Lake CPUs not that it came from intel loving their customers.

Yes AMD is there to make a profit just like all companys do but don't screw their customers over like how Intel and Nvidia has done so several times in the past.

If there was no AMD, intel would be on 14nm+++++..... :p and Nvidia GPUs prices would be :kookoo:.

Competition is good for everyone especially the end user.
What competition? This move is essentially Nvidia competing with themselves.

Some people have limited capacity in assessing the plausibility of rumors.

There are a number of factors that NVIDIA has to weigh if they delay the GeForce 40 series.

The most pressing concern would be a lack of expected revenue. Shareholders have some revenue expectations. The market is forward focused. Not meeting expectations is one problem. The other big one that often affects the share price more is future guidance/expectations. If NVIDIA revises guidance down mid-quarter, the stock will get slaughtered (and it's already taken a beating in 2022).

The second issue is competition. If AMD can release RDNA3 first without NVIDIA barking at their heels, they can increase mindshare and hopefully marketshare. This isn't limited to the DIY after-market AIB market, this also includes graphics card availability from the large system builders (Dell, HP, etc.) which both companies gave prioritized allocations in 2020.
Both are arguments not to postpone artificially, but might not matter a lot supplies will be limited anyways.

Both companies are expecting a certain amount of retraction in the gaming business (which includes crypto mining business).
We'll see. There are also a lot of gamers who have been waiting for prices to come down who probably have money put aside.
Anyways it's easy to forget that Nvidia sells millions of graphics cards and mining only makes up a few percent of these sales, and that Nvidia don't make more money from retailers selling over MSRP. Yet it doesn't take much shortage in the market and a group of customers willing to pay extra (miners) to inflate prices like crazy.

If anything, (lack of) media hype about mining/crypto will probably have more of an impact on stock prizes than actual miners.

And to address the inflation/economic struggles that others have mentioned repeatedly;
The struggles are absolutely real, but inflation has been this way for over a year now, and people seem to be spending too much on vacations and social activities for these hard times, so I don't expect a major drop in GPU sales.

It's not like NVIDIA can release mobile GPUs long before they upgrade professional workstation and consumer desktop GPUs.
Unlikely to happen as mobile GPUs usually are either cherry-picked chips or separate chip designs.

I'm actually yet to see these "cheap Ampere cards" on ebay. A lot of them are selling for close to what their original MSRP was supposed to be nearly two years ago now.

Depends where you live. In Norway there are many cards atleast 20% below msrp (talking models like gaming x, tuf etc that cost 550usd new, official msrp at launch here was 500 for 3060ti and 620 for 3070) often more (450-500 for 3060ti, 550-650 for 3070) at our 'ebay' atm. Still high prices for cards that are up to 1.5years old.

Am what? Where the hell did you see 3060 Ti in Norway for $450? The cheapest card I could find is Asus 3060 Ti Dual Mini v2 LHR and that will set you back for $560 at least. Those you have mentioned, TUF and Gaming X are around $700. The 3070's are around $700 for the cheapest card. Which Norwegian "ebay" site you are talking about? I looked at prisguiden.no and prisjakt.no.
I havent seen even one below MSRP and yet you say there are many.

Finn.no. 12x3060ti's below 5k nok there atm. Prices on new cards are not good and still above msrp. 7x3070 below 6.1k at finn atm.

The only people who won't care about prices are the people who have money to piss away on 3090/ti cards, they are the ones who will buy 4090 cards. for the rest of us the prices will be too high across the range more than likely.

These are used bro which means mining so you can't say below MSRP since these are used not brand new products.
Edit: Not to mention these cards were released in 2020 (end of but still). Horrendous prices no matter how you slice it.

I would be able to afford a 4090 for sure but I dont want to overpay. Nobody does. Especially for something that's not essential.
I don't like the idea of GPU prices going up so high even though I can afford those.

I answeared a seller who talked about ebay cards selling close to msrp. I never said anything about new cards going below msrp. Many of them are probably used to mining, but if you get a reciet you can take advantage of the 5 year "norwegian warranty". Don`t know how to translate "reklamasjonsrett". I have used that on 4 year old notebook etc and never had problems :) I never said the prices was good, just that many used cards now are well below msrp :)

Reklamasjonsrett is a right of complaint so it is a warranty.
I get you but I don't understand people saying the cards are selling below MSRP when they are used 24/7 for a year or more. Like it is not obvious that used cards are being sold cheaper.
Well you said cards are being sold below MSRP what you forgot to mention is these are used cards from a mining rigs mostly.

Go ahead nVidia, drop those prices back to Fermi levels and I'll help you clear that inventory. Not paying over $500 for a decent high midranger.

You know the next generation will be expensive if they don't want to compete with burnt out 1 - 1.5 year old miner cards that are still selling close to MSRP...

What's wrong with that some companies are not so disgusting and people like them?
From my perspective, and in this forum given the calibre of comments and intense disdain for them, it might fall on deaf or unwilling ears....

What's wrong with liking products a company makes and literally not caring about the rest? Apparently a lot according to users here, given many are actively engaged in trying to spread their influence to others, to what I assume is basically a small scale boycott.

How do you not care about being price-gouged?
Not being ripped-off is a #1 priority for a majority of people buying graphics cards.

Are you okay with just ignoring the blatant cash-grab that's happened in the last 8 months? 3080Ti, 3080 12GB, uh... 2060 12GB.... This is silicon they were selling for half the price year(s) beforehand.

I haven't been price-gouged, and wouldn't buy a product that was an outright ripoff, such as ones you listed. let's also remember a video card isn't exactly water, food, clothing, they're luxury goods - you have a choice and can voluntarily be gouged or not.

And if we're going to walk that road, I could point at more than one AMD product form the last ~18 months that fits that category too, or is it OK if AMD does it?

Nvidia will delay release. They can't charge the price that they want to because there are too many used GPUs to compete with. I'm certain that they did make enough profit on the Ampere series to last them a while.

We're talking about autumn release, not now. The situation was similar in 2018 with cheap GTX 1080, 1080 Ti's since cryptocollapse in January. Used cards pretty much ran out until Turing came to market, and when the price/performance of new generation turned out to be shit, the price of used Pascal cards actually went up.

And remember, autumn release of RTX 4080 can still mean months of very limited availability and no slower cards in sight.

Oh hey, I'm not going to defend AMD, they're guilty too - but this is an Nvidia news topic so I was just talking about Nvidia.
Throwing AMD into the ring as well is sure to start a fanboi flamewar around these parts! :D

Absolutely! they're both guilty, which brings me back to my original point, when either makes compelling products at compelling prices, I don't really care about the rest - neither sells essentials, neither murders babies (etc).

Who is 'worse' or 'better', who people should seemingly be steered away from or towards for reasons beyond the actual products, which perceived moral/feature high ground people feel the need to take, what price-gouging on various products is taking place ... it makes for some fun comments to read, but beyond that, I think I'll just buy cool products at acceptable prices.

Exactly. By which you meant that you will not buy 3090Ti for $1600, as it is an absurd price. And it's not cool at that price, is it?

Oh, I was busy and missed this chain of discussion I started and then went AWOL on.

Yes, I was talking about used GPUs. I just checked ebay.co.uk for 3060Ti cards, for example. That had a launch price of £369 in the UK 20 months ago.

Here are the last 12 used 3060Ti cards actually sold on ebay:

An old, secondhand card is basically at or above the price they launched at brand new in December 2020.
It's even crazier, given that the FE is now back in stock so you can buy a new one with warranty for £369 + shipping...

I'll say it again, I'm actually yet to see these "cheap Ampere cards" on ebay. Perhaps the 3060TI FE being back in stock will drive down the prices in the used market here....

I'm also not going to call the non-FE price-gouging models "under MSRP" because even a ROG STRIX MAXIMUS JOCKSTRAP+ edition is still basically just a 3060Ti and will not outperform a 3070 no matter how many stupid RGBLED Aurora Borealis disco party lights it has. Just becuase it originally launched with a built in 100% markup at the height of the price-gouging era doesn't justify that markup today. The MSRP for a 3060Ti was always the FE's MSRP and beyond 10-20% more than that was always just scalping/reeling in suckers. All the mostly-cosmetic bling and overbuilt VRM in the world made only margin-of-error improvements because the overclock is limited by Nvidia themselves via driver-and-firmware-enforced power limits. Yes you can shunt-mod, but how many people really do that?

Exactly. By which you meant that you will not buy 3090Ti for $1600, as it is an absurd price. And it's not cool at that price, is it?
I'm honestly not sure what you're point is here.

Yeah that's a crazy price, but also in the strictest sense, that product really isn't for me anyway, a 3080 or 6800 series card would be plenty. I've heard many professionals be quite OK with $1499 for a 3090, perhaps they'd find $1599 for a 3090Ti to be a good price for a productivity tool that generates them income and pays for itself.

I've skipped the 30 whatever series. I have a 2080Ti and will buy a 4080Ti if available and price isn't crazy. That said, I assume when the 4 series launches, miners will take all the available inventory, which means gamers will be left with the glut of 3 series.

By my reckoning, nothing changes...gamers will still suffer on price and availability, regardless if crypto stays down or not.

I miss the days when you could wait a few months after launch and get good deals. Those days are long gone.

I'm a PC hardware enthusiast, long time nerd, and have spent years of my life at a computer playing video games.

What can we do as normal people to get these graphic card prices down?

I know markets, resources, energy, and inflation are major uncontrollable factors that we can't influence, so what can I do as a consumer to try to change these behemoths?

Thanks
There is nothing you can do, unfortunately. The only thing which would hit close to the wallet for these corps is to prove there was price fixing, market manipulation, anti-competitive practices and even then, the government will likely give them a slap on the wrist and turfing of the CEO and board members via investor law suit, but then they'd be right back at it, but in a different way.

The fact of the matter is that there are only 2 players in this game, so competition will never fully drive prices down to a reasonable level and it looks like Intel crapped the bed with their latest.

Enjoy your hobby and gaming knowing you've been around to play with a lot of cool tech and games.
