Portable PC gaming is here to stay, and while Valve may have been the one to make it accessible with their $400 entry point, brands like One Notebook and their ONEXPLAYER manage to push the envelope with genuine Windows systems while giving you the choice between Intel and AMD, as well as more screen sizes and storage.

Steamdeck is half that at $529 for the 256GB drive $400 for the 64GB version. You have to question if the oneplayer is really worth the price on top of the fact you have to deal with Win10 BS instead of just the Steam UI.

Thats rather expensive.
Aokzoe with Ryzen 6800U, 16 GB of LPDDR5 and 512 GB Ssd is $900 on kickstarter.

Yeah, another follower to Aokzoe and GPD (and it's not enough of a bump over Steam Deck to justify the premium, even if that screen is sexy.)

I expect there to be several dead handheld pc companies by 2025 (there's only so much demand for such a limited device, even when you take a hit on profit like the Deck) Valve will also require a hardware revision by that time too (or else a cut Deck to half price.)

Yep, my son bought a ROG laptop last year, with an i7, 32GB ram, RTX 3080, and a 2TB m.2 for $1100, so thats exactly why I made my previous comment, :)

Comparing to steam deck, the price is too hard to swallow.

Steamdeck runs Linux, which is far out-shined by Windows for compatibility.

This OneXPlayer runs native Windows, which means it will run anything the Steamdeck can PLUS everything it can't, PLUS everything from the Epic store, and most importantly, EVERYTHING from GOG. Keeping in mind the limits of the hardware, this unit seems to kick ass. I like it! Valve can't and doesn't compete well..

The steam deak isn't 529 anymore plus 256gb version is a non starter... The onexplayer is way better, plays all PC games unlike the steam deck

Doubt that. The issue is that we don't know. Also there's a catch with portable devices, there's more too it than raw specs. Nintendos portables have always been the weakest off their generation. The Gameboy was feeble compared to the Lynx and GameGear. The GBA launched against a series of also rans and came out on top. The DS was worse than the PSP and the 3DS didn't hold up to the Vita. Yet they won, every damn time by a massive margin. The Switch is also selling like crazy and is not threatened by any of these also ran PC options including the Steam Deck.

The reason for all this is pretty obvious and it's not just Nintendos own exclusives, the rest all had their own stuff as well. It's that Nintendo focused on making a portable rather than hurling specs and technology at the issue. As a result, the device just worked better for what it was. All the stuff people mocked the devices for, and still do, ended up being exactly why it worked.

I don't think the Steam Deck will be the hit people think it will be, but it will crush the other options. It seems Valve did focus on the right issues instead of tossing hardware specs at it. But having used one and having a Switch it's less good as a portable device than the switch.

I wasn't really making any judgements as to which device is better than the other, only that $1k is an outrageous price for ANY handheld plaything that has limited capabilities and upgrade path...

Perhaps after this massive fail attempt at scalping the average gammer, they will do like the telecoms do, ie give you the device for free or low $$ in exchange for a monthly/yearly usage plan....

Still not worth it IMHO, but better than forkin out $1k for the device and then having to fork out even MOAR $$ for the games to play on it...
