AMD Ryzen 7000-Series Likely to Launch On or Before the 4th of August

Pulling ahead the launch before the launch window is virtually impossible,
Why not? If they've been stockpiling chips for an eventual Q4 release it's very much possible, you think Apple launches a new iPhone without massive inventory?

More of a meltdown than we've already had for two years now?
I don't think even the so-called experts can precisely predict a few months from now.
Purely in terms of the PC landscape it was a boom, in case you forgot 2020/21 had record breaking numbers for the vast majority of companies.

The fact that there have been zero leaks of actual product in the retail channel makes it almost certain this is a very advanced paper launch for journalists only, in an attempt to steal some of RKL's and Ada's thunder.

Because you can't speed up the time the foundry needs to make the circuits on a wafer, which for such complex chips is ~4 months. So the best case scenario is ~4 months for the first engineering samples, then a few weeks of testing (and fixing if needed), then ~4 months for the first volume batch, then some weeks for extensive testing and to gather enough samples to determine clocks etc. Even if the design doesn't need another stepping, the timeline will be approaching 1 year at the earliest possible release.

Purely in terms of the PC landscape it was a boom, in case you forgot 2020/21 had record breaking numbers for the vast majority of companies.
No, but I was referring to your claim of "Expected global economic meltdown".

Yeah, I would expect an announcement, tech demo, etc. Usually there are QS samples in the wild weeks/months before a launch.
And don't forget AMD's tradition of having an announcement of an announcement.

But I would of course welcome an unexpectedly early launch.

Meltdown could be a loaded word in this context but yes a downturn is already underway ~
Which could get much worse if the war in Ukraine doesn't end & oil prices cool off.

There is no question that the world is facing challenging times, but that should not be confused with the pandemic boost to computer sales, as even in the best of circumstances such sales number couldn't be sustained. So lower revenue than 2020/21 should be expected for most of these companies, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't make money. I believe for the last 5+ years every CPU and GPU has been able to sell without any problem, despite sales volumes fluctuating.

And to take your argument to the extreme, to "sell them while they're hot" before and impending global economic meltdown, well even basic economics would tell you otherwise. I assume you mean the risk for hyper inflation, and if you were the maker of a goods that still will be useful after a "meltdown", and you knew a meltdown was coming, selling as much as possible now would be stupid, you would rather retain the stock and sell it after the inflation ;)

I would love to know the rationale behind that but it's probably way off topic for this thread. Also my thinking behind this is based simply on the fact that PC components are not an "essential" commodity ~ they are still discretionary items.

I thought 7xxx was a ddr5 only release tho ... "?"

Yes, Ryzen 7K/socket AM5 is DDR5 only, but Raptor Lake is not and will work on existing Z690 DDR4 motherboards, also some Z790 motherboards seem like they will launch with DDR4 support as well

No one should expect Zen4 to ever come to AM4 socket. Maybe a future 3DCache 5950X as a final send off next year.

If they're trying to push the launch ahead of Raptor Lake they may not be confident in their performance; hopefully that's not the case.

If they have good stock at the launch then we'll know it was always planned to launch then, but if it's a low stock or paper launch you'd be a fool to buy the AMD products before the Raptor Lake launch.

Maybe it's just going to be an announcement of the announcement of the launch though since AMD seems to like doing that.
That is the exact opposite of why you would release early. If you are unsure you would wait and see if RL is better than you expected. Releasing early means they are confident in their product IMO. And from what I've read AMD is very confident in Zen 4's ability to compete and even beat RL especially in M/T and with huge clock increases this time, they won't get sand kicked in their face on S/T apps or gaming.

Any body that doesn't think both these cpu's will be uber competitive and trade blows is delusional. There will be no bad choices IMO. Just pick the price performance point that suits you.

Surely you mean pepper lunch?

On a more serious note, from what I've been told there will apparently not be any performance figures discussed at this specific event.

I`m very much hope AM5-gen1 platform won`t be AM4-gen1 (Ryzen 1xxx series) all over again.
I really want to choose from the better one for my upcoming build and not be left with intel as sole competitor because of AM5 bios instability.

Let see if they invest in code and QA as much as in the (stupid, for my taste) RGB, "beauty shrouds" and all the other trash they put on MB those days just to make it look like a "gamer"\"creator"\"other s***" of a product.

I don't pay for visual- I pay for features, stability and performance.

They had some UEFI issues about a month ago, but it's all been resolved by now from what I've been told.

So its probably safe to say the TPU front page is going to get spammed, on or about Aug 4th, with motherboard launches from every partner and backyard garage.

Previous leaks hinted at such launches were supposedly to be some time in or after September.

So maybe the Aug 4th event will be the announcement of the date to announce the date that will officially be the launch date of things unofficially not crafted on paper? The question is, will everything else be announced on that date too, motherboards, memory, storage, etc. and will it be a focused launch announcement of the PCIe5/AM5...stuff? :D

So would I be right in saying that this could be a deliberate move by AMD to upset the sales to the rest of Nvidia's 30xx infantry they said they wanted to off load before their 40xx release?

Possible. I'm sure AMD would jump at the chance to screw Nvidia.

Yeah, I think so.

I remember AMD's supposed Fury X release and just before the launch Nvidia fucked them by releasing the 980Ti just weeks before which really hurt them.

Time for payback!

You'd be a fool to buy Intel period. One 5% IPC CPU upgrade and invalid motherboard because Intel wants to force you to buy motherboards with a dozen Intel branded chips whereas you could literally go from some A320 and upgrade all the way to a 5800X3D. Only a fool would willingly give their money to someone who blatantly and known-to-all rips off their own customers.

So many fools out there...
I guess that make you what? Smart?

I can argue that changing CPU every few years is much more foolish, but I don't.
It's your mony, so it's your choice. All answerss are right. Just don't be bias on that.
