The look and feel of the Backbone One - PlayStation Edition was brought to life by our design team in collaboration with the brilliant minds at PlayStation. The elegant colors, materials, and finishes are all inspired by the design of the PS5 console's DualSense wireless controller, all the way down to the transparent face buttons and its visually distinctive, floating appearance. It feels right at home with the other products in the PS5 lineup, like the Pulse 3D headset, which you can connect directly to the Backbone One - PlayStation Edition.

Backbone One is the gaming essential for PlayStation on iPhone. If you have access to broadband internet and a PS5 or PS4 console, plug an iPhone into the Backbone One and instantly start playing your PS5 and PS4 games with the power of the PS Remote Play app—whether that's out and about or even elsewhere in the home.

Backbone One also works wonderfully with App Store games and other game streaming services that support controllers, including Genshin Impact, Fantasian, Call of Duty: Mobile, and more. Players can download the Backbone App for a customized PlayStation experience. Inside the app, you'll see various PlayStation integrations, such as custom glyphs representing the iconic PlayStation shapes and the ability to browse hundreds of game titles.

Availability

The Backbone One - PlayStation Edition will be available in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom at launch, with more countries to follow.

^This so much...

If Sony didn't keep shooting their handhelds in the foot in some odd way, they'd actually beat Nintendo more often than not.

What about the price though?
Looks like $99.99.
iPhone only.
November for non-PS Android version. They don't specify compatibility like max width, though. Looks like phones only, would be nice for some tablets.
Funny that PS Edition still has asymmetric thumbsticks.

I was just thinking again about a handheld system the other day before charging up the Switch. The AYA Neo and SteamDeck are too damn expensive compared to what the Sony and Nintendo systems were like. I don't really care about the power difference between those ecosystems, but since I already have a powerful mobile device in the form of a phone, this seems like the right solution.

This is not a new concept they've been doing stuff like this for YEARS now. This is just the Playstation one...

Sony just needs to bring back the PSP/VITA, and not screw it up this time. Heck, they can leverage AMD ecosystem to do a fairly powerful unit much like the Steam Deck and other portable handheld gaming computers. Throw in their slightly proprietary data streaming backend, and they can basically have a PS5 Portable that still shares enough commonality to run PS5 games at lower resolutions/FPS, but can also emulate/run all their older console games. And if they permit Linux OS loading like they did on early PS3s, could also have it run Steam OS as a secondary OS.

My question is, is this gizmo user friendly to iPhones in cases? I don't see me taking out my $2000 phone out of its case to potentially get scratched up.

AT GODDAMN LAST, THEY ONLY TOOK 10 YEARS TO REALIZE

The controllers available for smartphones are awful, all of them, we needed someone with decent standards to step up.

Would really like to see Sony bring back either PS Vita replacement or a new Xperia Play.
I think there are some strange quirks around the Vita gpu and for that reason it has been a fairly complicated console to emulate, but ofcourse them being the creators of it wouldn't have any problem. If they are willing to do a Vita on a chip that would be something to justify the prices of their smartphones, which are bonkers lately.

The Xperia 5 IV is expected to be announced and I was thinking on changing my first gen Xperia 5 to that one when prices go down. If they do have something like that up their sleeve, I'm more than sold.
