Did I break by radiator?

I thought this was a solid piece but it looks like a small extension (the black piece) got stuck on my fitting.

Should I try to reuse the extension or just put it back in with the fitting? It's an EK 360 Coolstream PE radiator.

The gasket on the extension is pretty crushed and may not seal well anymore where as the gaskets on my fittings are in perfect shape.

The threads appear match the fitting.

It looks crushed. After I unscrewed it what is left of that o-ring is probably junk.

i would get another O ring and some plumbers tape. Otherwise it looks fine.

Finding replacement O rings for a G 1/4" fitting isn't that difficult, they're probably stocked at your nearest hardware store. Sometimes you'll receive a few extras when you buy custom cooling components.

Personally I would test out the repaired radiator in a standalone loop outside of working computer case so if it leaks, it won't ruin your day. I have an old PSU and extra cheap pump for such experiments.

I cleaned them up and tested with the ek leak tester that I have. It seems to be sealing ok. After a few hours no leak.

I've never understood why EK added another point of failure by adding that fitting. If they had g3/8 parts or something I could see it but they don't and haven't.

To make matters worse you can't put the other fitting in there either. The area around the recess is too narrow for the other fitting so you have to use this little extension. What a pain.

EK refers to them as pre-installed extenders which implies that the radiator can be used without them. Presumably they are there to provide adequate clearance for fittings that aren't able to be fastened flush to radiator body.

It appears they also require a flanged fitting which limits available options.

Perhaps the design limitation is why the product has been discontinued by EK.

No you didn't break anything it's just ek's double possible leak system instead of other manufactures that only have the single possible leak system which I prefer.

ive done the same before, i just screwed it back in im still using the rad' the O-ring was still good on mine.

Yep been there
Those pieces are there to hold ek rad shell covers in place.

So yeah make sure the shell is centered in the holes
Otherwise you'll leak.
