We've reduced sell-in to let channel inventory correct
So they are just not making as many to create an artificial shortage.
we've implemented programs with our partners to price position the products in the channel in preparation for our next generation
And will be pre-scalped until 30-series is depleted.

I say AMD is in a great position to grab a whole lot of market share from Nvidia - a choice that would greatly benefit them in many ways. For example, it would allow FSR and AMF to become much more mainstream than they are compared to NVENC and DLSS. Also, mindshare is a bit of an issue with AMD, particularly on the GPU side.

Wonder what AMD will do, they really have an opportunity with RDNA3 especially if nVidia launches the 4090 only.

It is expected a bit later, Oct-Nov and will be very tempted to co-milk.

I'll pray for RDNA-2 story to repeat itself, with crushing pricing that forced NV to drop a tier on its cards. (that is the only plausible explanation of 10GB 3080 and 12GB 3060)

It is also the reason that the 3080 used the GA102 die instead of the GA103S or GA104.

I don't expect any normal market behaviour in the coming months.

PS5 is going up at least 10% "due to the global economic environment". I don't think AMD will be in any position to seriously undercut Nvidia, especially in a market with less and less buyers.

So, if I get it right, new GPU arch release is being handled as yet another higher end and higher price card being added to the existing lineup.

In my humble opinion PC gamers absolutely earned that sort of treatment.

I'll just buy an AMD RDNA3 next gen card in November. So Nvidia can eat shit. :)

It won't be as excessive as Nvidia though, not by far, current gen has already proved this.

Guess they try to offset some losses & please shareholders with this move. :)

It could work out. :p There are enough Nvidia fanboys with too much cash who pay every sum.
And luxury items still sell: Ultra-rich fueling sales of luxury brands despite inflation and recession fears

Wonder what AMD will do, they really have an opportunity with RDNA3 especially if nVidia launches the 4090 only.

If they have the production numbers they can get quite a head start over Nvidia.
But with the current Covid lockdowns & energy crisis factory closings in China I bet not.

"CEO Jen Hsun says that the first products will be "layered on top" of the current-generation "Ampere" products, so they don't cannibalize the sales of current-generation products."

Bah hah hah ahaha... f-you Jensen. Go sell your overpriced mountains of Ampere to your favorite customer, the miners. If you want anyone to buy Ada, you better not price it higher than Ampere launch.

Yeah what a way to say, somebody is going to get cannibalized. the customer. Not the 30 series, Instead of giving us 3080 /10 at $399 for what is essentially a more power hungry 406o Ti /10. At least price it accordingly. I remember GTX 780 sold as low as $299 to clear the channels originally launching as a $649 MSRP card 18 month earlier, so I'm not going for it again. unless I see 40% off.

This was the plan all along.

It was already leaked that 40xx will be 11-16% higher than the 30xx launch, prior to that shortage back when. Nvidia creating another shortage to justify higher MSRPs is good business, for them, hence why people refer to Nvidia as Ngreedia, a moniker well earned.

Well, I wasn't even going to buy a GPU, but I still think that nVidia can eat shit. That seems to typically be a good statement all around. What do we need now? Clearly another ultra expensive GPU so people can go stroke their egos with it.

You do you nVidia. There are soo many good indy games that could be run on an abacus that i’ll just keep waiting to upgrade until it’s on my terms.

Anyone want to remake Liero and give it an online multiplayer lobby? :D

1. There was a shortage in production capacity together with high demand. The situation is improving, TSMC and Samsung have invested in new fabs that will start production in 2023/24.
2. 11-16% is inflation, most products went up 10-15% over the last two years. Blame the government spending.

That alone wouldn't justify ceasing supply to "normalize the market"; GPU prices went down considerably recently, and it's going to hurt hardware ASP, if ASP goes down the shareholders will hold JHH accountable for it

"just don't buy it"
There is a very real risk that if this goes on we won't have a choice NOT to buy it if we will ever want to game on PC.

this all now starts to make sense why the 3090ti dropped to $1200. The “layer on top” approach means they will release a $1500 ish 4080 this year slightly faster being the fastest card then a $1k ish 4070 on par or slower than a 3090 ti but with more features. So they don’t need to drop anything else or canibalize any lineup until next year.

Remember kids this for nvidia is not just a pricing game but a mindset game too . New buyers anxiously waiting for this release will see only the top end being released and say oh well I’ll just get a 30 series “on sale” and that’s how nvidia depletes their 30 series stock to make way for 40 series next year.

no way, 2080 Ti was released at 1K - 1,2 for AIBs, then for a short pre 3070 period drops to 500 second hand /800 new, so we're already there.
3080 Ti dropped to 850, so second hand must be going for 600, expect 4070 counterpart at 500 FE, 600 AIBs.
3090 Ti is a halo product so it doesn't count. Now the tricky part is are they going to wait for the 3070 to go out of stock or just the 3080's. Because i'm not paying 500 for a 3070 that is 40% slower.

If in the first month (October) we are going to have only RTX 4090 on self, essentially Nvidia CEO suggests that at launch Ada models (RTX 4090) will be higher priced than the current models that Nvidia still has on stock, based on the new lower pricing strategy that will be implemented in the channel by the end of the month regarding Ampere lineup, so essentially he is saying nothing except reassuring investors.
If the models are according to leaks regarding specs, there is zero chance imo 4080 to have higher than $999 SRP.
And this is my pessimistic scenario, the optimistic is $799.

Bought my 2070 for about 500$. Upgrade to 4070 around 550-600$ is intended. Skipped 3070 for high pricing, low Vram.

That alone wouldn't justify ceasing supply to "normalize the market"; GPU prices went down considerably recently, and it's going to hurt hardware ASP, if ASP goes down the shareholders will hold JHH accountable for it
going into a recession with high stock of hardware was always a problem. Cyclic business.
