Probably something about Japanese buying their domestic product because, well, it's domestic. Of course in this case they get ripped off, but hey, humans.
Japan is weird, when it comes to a lot things (especially food ) they only buy local, yet with phones weirdly they buy a lot of iPhones even though local offering is superior. But yeah like you said, humans.

It's not surprising to see these kinds of price hikes due to inflation being so high. I think it's expected to be about 8.5% for 2022 here in the USA.

A lot of it is "pandemic recovery" or really pandemic ignorance on the US's part in favor of keeping the economy going. Either way, Sony loves money... and for a console that doesn't even support 1440p, yet.

Sony has 1440p support in beta phase now I read. It's coming soon. Another reason I can't wait for 27" 1440p OLED high refresh to get here, its just the rez/size I prefer.

I don't agree with it having anything to do with the pandemic recovery... all was well until in Europe until this US led war which destabilized their economies by sanctioning Russian energy. Europe's energy costs are through the roof, thus shooting the cost of everything else up which weakened the Euro (The markets don't feel as secure as they once did in the euro). My wife sends money back to her country and she gets a hell of a whole lot more rupees for the dollar than she has ever had. Long story short, many nations are suffering from having a weaker currency (in some cases, much weaker). Why should Sony sell at a loss?

UK is on track for average monthly energy bill been enough to buy a 3080 FE during 2023. Absolutely mental state of affairs here.

No problem, you just don't know the history. But whatever. Root of the topic is, the war is the cause.

If that bill is anything like Germany's energy bill that I was paying in July...bro. I'm sorry. My gas and electric bill combined was almost 800 euros monthly.

Anyone in USA: shipped and sold by walmart, been in stock for 9 hours now. msrp. first time it hasn't sold out instantly, I guess things are finally getting back to normal.

I don't know if it's legit, I placed it in my cart and this was the error message "Unable to add to cart Sorry! We are having a technical issue. We're working on fixing it. Please try again later."

says its still not sold out on my end. maybe you are right and its just an error on their end. or there are too many people trying to get it at once. which is my guess.
