Kinda brings back the thought of why the f#@£ do we have home heater's when we could plum a few of these up and heat a mansion.

And no I'm not joking my Vega is my heater, but this would kick it's ass at Btu supply.

Right? Holy crap! How much heat are they expecting from that GPU? I don't care what performance it offers, I don't want that much heat being pumped out of my PC..

Not just out of your PC, among all the other components too! I once, in 2008, had my 9800GX2's side exhaust literally melt the plastic side panel of the Thermaltake Armor chassis which I had at the time. Long gone are the plastic "glasses" but you're right on point I think: imagine a 600w heater, which this card looks like, right next to loads of plastic, for instance on motherboard decors.

Staggering beyond words at this one. A 13 heat pipe vapour chamber. I cannot wait to see how this generation pans out but if this isn't one of the top level SKUs with an unnecessary amount of cooling; then, we are nearing the second coming of Fermi jokes.

Yep, it really has reached the point of being staggering. 450W as a baseline. Custom models will need a small PSU all to itself to power! Never in a million years would I put anything above 350W in my system let alone 400!

The 4090 will be for a select few just like the 3090. It's really a pro-sumer GPU.

Where in nvidia's plan is that wrote, you think they sold just a few 3090s

They sold loads not a select few.
And would be very happy to sell more.

if it's that hot that it require an HS this beefy it's going to be toasty in the room your PC is located (unless you have AC) 450W average with upto 600~800W on custom models yeah it's going to get rather warm

...and we still won't be capable to render CP2077, etc. at a *solid* 60FPS @ 0.1% lows (w/RT enabled and DLSS off), so, what's the damn point?!

No GPUs in the next 2 installments, '22 and '24, will be worthy be to be called "next-gen" cards, on purpose.

PERIOD!

Barack Obama Mic Drop GIF
3080 ti owner here and even at 1440p I have to use balanced DLSS to stay above 60 for minimums and that is even with two settings not maxed out. And I know I am in the small minority but I do not find the visuals in CP 2077 to be impressive at all. It looks like an outdated janky graphics engine that was pushed to its limits and is not efficient at all.

You must have a bottleneck somewhere in your system..

Yup, you're in the minority.
And you must be clueless about this game with ray tracing on. With quality DLSS at 1440p it will stay above 60 fps for most of the game but there are spots where it will drop into the 50s with gpu hitting 99 to 100%. Only with balanced can it stay above 60 fps everywhere.

I remember when Triple and even Quad slot cooling solutions were considered exotic and extreme.

There's the old Red Devil 13 full triple slot, the Kudan series (often with extremely exotic 4-5 slot cooling solutions, like the prototype with the massive passive cooler), the Gigabyte Super OverClock Radeon HD 7970 with 5 40mm fans and a little over 3 slots long. There's also the experimental Asetek GPU AIO that effectively took 4 slots; 2 for the hybrid AIO cooler on the GPU, and 2 for the radiator that vented longitudinally out the PCI slots (or the ancient precursor, the Thermaltake TideWater).

It'll be interesting to see if triple and quad coolers will become the norm in the high end. Many of the recent high-end cooling solutions were already pushing 3 slots, just leaving enough space to squeeze a utility card next to the GPU.

Right? Holy crap! How much heat are they expecting from that GPU? I don't care what performance it offers, I don't want that much heat being pumped out of my PC..

If you buy a graphics card you can easily setup VSync. It wont render more frames then your screen is capable off.

You also have the luxury to undervolt, and even shave off free watts at the same clocks or performance.

There's driver settings these days named Chill or something that simply limits the amount of frames or clocks a GPU can do.

Basicly if done right you can cut power consumption with over 50% on FPS games and even up to 80% with games that really dont require so much GPU horsepower.

If your going to play at 4k with everything set to high yeah then you might expect to reach that number. But it's no different then running a crossfire or SLI setup to get the max performance.

You can always buy a lower tier GPU of both camps.

I own the game and run it on an RTX 2080 and it rarely drops below 80FPS at 1440p on my system. You were saying what about being clueless?

Yeah, you're doing something wrong or have a bottleneck somewhere in your system. Either way the problem is with YOU.

If you buy a graphics card you can easily setup VSync. It wont render more frames then your screen is capable off.
That won't work. I have 144hz screens.

I think you're missing my point. NVidia should be focusing on improving power efficiency as much as improving performance.

My thought exactly
If you can't make a new product that's smaller and faster and uses the same or less power as the previous gen then you're doing it wrong
but no what are we getting
Smaller Faster uses way more power to me that is inefficient

I agree within a certain degree. Variances need to be allowed for. But to go from 220ishW to 460w in two generations of product, something is being done wrong..
