FPS ceiling points made are all true, but you will also have terrible 1/0.1% lows with a 1700x. In many games I would not be surprised for these to drop below 30fps - stuttering etc.

This is where, even if you are playing at 60fps @4k for example, you will notice problems with your CPU, and where a 5700 (minimum upgrade worth doing IMO) would be a great improvement.

As others have said, the 5800X3D is the best thing you can do to avoid bottlenecking with the new cards being released.

what do you guys think about the Ryzen 5600G at 3,9Ghz??? as an upgrade from 1700x. Worth it? It's a 65W cpu
yeah less threads but look at that clock 3,9

edit: the discount actually sucks. whatever. but it's half the price of a 5700x. what I really love is the 3,9Ghz/ The higher, the better for games right?

Why G not 5600x or 5600? It will be better than 1700x for sure but in my eyes it is a waste of money. You will need to upgrade anyway especially if you aim for a high end graphics with a 6900xt or 3080 level of performance. Just get a 5600x or 5700x maybe even 5800x if the x3d is still expensive and call it a day. You can also wait a bit more when new processors show up which I'm sure will drive 5000 series CPU prices down.

What about the 5600 non-x? Remember the 5600g lacks performance a bit and it would not be a good upgrade from your 1700x. At least that is what I think.

g series not worth it, monolithic die sure, but you lose cache, overall performance, and the iGPU is borderline pointless if you have a dGPU.

It depends on what you play really but in those not so well optimized games that still rely only on a few threads 'god forbid only 1..' then the IPC of the 1700x will show.

I had a 1600x for almost 4 years and I did run into/played some games where it was an issue, even with an aging GTX 1070.
Mainly older games like Diablo 3/Grim Dawn/Lost Ark and some newer but badly optimized titles.

When I switched to my current 12100F system with the same card, in Lost Ark for example my minimum frames pretty much doubled in the worst case scenarios where I used to have big drops and bottleneck on my 1070. '2560x1080 res maxed out settings'

In such scenarios no matter what you do the single thread/IPC will bottleneck your performance and thats where first gen Zen is lacking.
Tho if you don't play any of those old/crappy titles then I guess you can get away with it at 1440p until you upgrade to something better at a later point.

5600 will bottleneck, did you read my posts???
i havent OC/pbo my cpu yet so idk the results but even in certain vids at 4.7 ive seen dropping the gpu usage to 80 or lower cuz bottleneck
5600x asus tuf oc 3080 12gb 3440x1440
BfV, BF 2042, Hell of bottleneck, CP2077 95% and dropping in crowded areas.
Get a 8~12~16 cores cpu if youre planning to upgrade your card

I found something interesting. Bellow you will see a comparison in memory for 5700x on the left and 1700x on the right.
comp.jpg

As you can see for Ryzen 1700x it says DDDR4-2666. WHat does that mean? This is important, cuz I thought my memory was at 3200.
This is my meory bellow:
ram.jpg

Memory XMP 3200. Memory speed 2133. WHat is this? Why is it like this? Becuase I have it set wrong,or bewcuase the CPU simply cant go up to 3200?

Here is says System Memory Specification Up to 2667MHz (on AMD page).
I am so confused. @P4-630 @Mussels

?, What 4070?.

It's not announced or are we talking about the 4080/12GB, some people rumour was the 4070?

Either way that CPU might not cut it.

@P4-630 it doesn't look fine to me. In fact i think that all this time I spent money on a 3200mhz ram, and I cleary did not use it at full potential.

Basically a 3600 with higher clocks, reduced L3 down to 16 from 32MB and an onboard gpu. Might work for some esports titles....

EDIT
And yes, its based off Zen 2+ not Zen 3.

It looks like you have not enabled XMP in BIOS. The DDR4-2666 vs DDR4-3200 is simply the highest JDEC speed officially supported by the processor. Enabling XMP is a little bit like PBO - it is technically an overclock but is handled automatically by the hardware.

Some setups have trouble with stability with XMP enabled, but I don't think yours will. The SPD tab in CPU-Z will show the JDEC and XMP speeds the RAM supports.
