Lol, lets hope the next elected President is better.

Just because it could be worse, and let's sure as hell hope there's not much out there worse than Bush, doesn't mean I'm not going to critsize the guy.

He won the electoral vote, not the popular vote. Therefore, he didn't get voted in by the majority. The electoral college didn't properly represent the people imho.

Enough said.

I would think very badly of Bush, and even worse of Kerry.

You can throw out a million what ifs, but the fact is we can't answer those what ifs and so with that being said there is no reason to say "what if".

Indeed, but in my opinion the chances of either one of those happening are increased with him as President. The previous statement can be applied to circumstances even after he departs from the office.

Therefore, I do care about him being in office and for the well being of our country.

He has the power to veto bills, so therefore, they don't control him. He also has plenty of ways of putting pressure on our Congress.

I have to agree with Ravenas on this - and as I mentioned before, those that DID vote for Bush really have no right to complain about his actions, but those that didn't vote for him are within their democratic rights.

Secondly, the war in Iraq did not have popular approval before we got trigger happy, and approval for the war fell through the floor after it turned out that the CIA and Bushes administration fed us a load of BS over the nefarious WMDs and other tripe. Afghanistan was a different story, though, as the entirety of the US (and a vast majority of the world) was peeved after 9-11 and wanted us to take action - although, it is sad that after 3 years there, we still couldn't find Bin Laden and Bush doesn't care anymore.

i dont like him but i hate how people automatically just act stupid and make fun of the poor guy who cares if he is stupid he is running the country and as long as the us doesnt go into another deppression or have a war on our so i dont really care

Honestly, IMO, my biggest gripe over this is that the president represents our country - when other nations and their citizens think of the US, they think of the president, not the average Joe. Our president should be 100% literate and highly educated, I believe. The more formally educated the president sounds and acts, the more other nations, and our own citizens will take him seriously. Take Clinton, for example, even though he had a couple of screw-ups towards the end of his last term, he was very well spoken and liked by other countries and their leaders. How often we were at differences with other natins during his 8 years? Even Bush Sr commanded respect when he spoke. Granted, he had the same verbal slip-ups as his son does, he carried himself differently. The president represents our nation, and when the rest of the world already knows our country's literacy rates are sub-par, and when they've become dis-illusioned to american culture because of our movies and tv shows that they've been subjected to, the president's poor grasp of the english vocabulary and grammar only re-enforce those beliefs the rest of the world has.

As for any potential depression - it's economically hard to say . . . although many corporations are currently doing alright (not great, though), Wall Street has been all over the place just this last year alone, and the value of the US dollar is steadily declining. The work supply for many of blue-collar fields is currently dry; auto-repair, electrical, plumbing, road-crews, construction . . . there hasn't been a lot of work for these fields this year, and when they're all sitting still in the water like that, it's really, very bad for the economy because the economy's back-bone isn't doing anything. All it would take is one catastrophic incident to the american economy to usher in another depression (something big . . . say, if Ford or GM declared bankruptcy or completely folded), hopefully, though, nothing will happen before the next president and change-up in Congress.

than why insult the guy in charge everyone knows he is a damn figurehead the congress is in charge bush just takes the blame if anyone would bother to look the congress is made up of old farts who have no idea what the world is like now and are slowly leading america into a decline that could create the largest single governed 3rd world country ever known

except for Bush being a figurehead . . . I completely agree with you here. It would really help if more people took the time to pay attention to what our government is doing, but there are way too many people complacent to their actions. Sad, isn't it?

I had an idea a year ago, that for ALL of our government officials - president, vice-president, senators, representatives, etc - if their approval rating falls below 50%, we should cut their pay by 50%. If it falls below 35%, we should cut it to 25%. The whole reasoning behind this . . . if you lose the support of the majority, you're not doing the job you were hired (read: elected) for. Seeing as how we can't just up and fire you, and we can't cut your work hours, we cut your pay. You'd be surprised how many officials would quickly straighten up their act.

That is a great idea except that the majority of our elected officials are of the super elite class and don't depend on their salary. This is part of the problem we have is that the country is being run by super wealthy people that don't have a clue what it's like working your tail off and getting nowhere. What sucks is that any normal working class guy that wants to run for office has to go in as something other than republican or democrat which the press then treats them as a crackpot. There is almost no way for them to compete against the big money the other two are capable of generating and they receive zero support from any incumbents because the parties will not allow the support. It is basically a monopoly shared by the two parties with a common interest.

The whole point of living in a free society with an elected government is to criticize. It's the basis of checks and balances; criticism and skepticism to keep the government in line. This country is not run by rule of the tyranny, but maybe you missed that memo.

People like you are the reason the USA has progressed to authoritarianism. Elected government without criticism might as well be a dictatorship.

QFT! I'm American, proud and I hate Bush. Here's to openly criticizing the worst president I have ever lived under.:toast:

this is true, and i dont agree with war on iraq, but afgan should have been completly overthrown and turned into another US territory IMHO

i 100% agree with you that bush reps are country and that if he is a dick everyone thinks that all american are dicks, but that is nothing new most of the presidents have had "issues" that make countrys look and laugh (clinton)

second part of that for one there is going to be a HUGE issue inthe next few years when all the corp big wigs retire and let there sons take there spots....this will end badly when the kid who hasnt worked a day in his life and probably can not even use a toaster is given the keys to a fortune 500 company.

except for Bush being a figurehead . . . I completely agree with you here. It would really help if more people took the time to pay attention to what our government is doing, but there are way too many people complacent to their actions. Sad, isn't it?

:D well at least we mostly agree on something ehh
