better wait for a 4080ti. It will be on AD102 and if msrp is between 1200~1600 then you'll get a lot more cuda cores

I will, maybe not on the launch, but i need it for my Varjo VR headset. Maybe with a 4090 i can use max resolution available on Varjo Aero, maybe!!! For 4k monitor use, my 3080ti will be enough.
I think the 4090 will be a massive bump in performance, 80% over the 3080ti?

I get it, you think with your wallet. But anyone calling someone a fanboy is a fanboy themself. Try to leave the emotion out of it, some people can spend the money and some cant, it is the same with every hobby.
You got pretty defensive on a whim there, didn't you, sport? I'd say, if your first instinct when mentioning this kind of brand loyalty hovers around emotions, well, someone has a problem.

If I can go on bestbuy on launch at 6am and click buy I will get one leaning towards the FE model only though. Would be cool to get one at launch but if the bots get them in 2 seconds before I can click buy life goes on.

I'm also not interested in waiting for a 4090ti, 450w is already the limit of what I find acceptable any future card will likely be 500-600w smh.

That is a flaw in my poll. I neglected to include a vote choice that will give the option to vote "Yes, I will buy one for other uses than gaming"

I will flag a moderator and see if I can change the poll or if they will change it.

i don't need anything nearly that powerful - still trying to find demanding games that push my gtx 1060 6gb more, while actually being both stable and feature-complete

but a $250 3060 ti replacement might be in my future (see 4050)

Sure why not? We all bought Fermi 400 and 500 series did we not? I still have mine.. 3 slot dinosaur that chews hella power, can run at 100c in SLi, and hurt your 850w units when paired up :D

These things are massive lol. I have a lot of empty space under my current GPU. Having a 4090 a quarter of an inch from 2x 140 iPPC doesn't seem like a bad idea
History repeats :D

I'm running that just fine on my htpc's gtx 960 - lighter console ports run acceptably at 4k medium at 30 fps - i could almost max them out with the 1060

and more demanding games are still playable at 1080p high (nearly max, if they offer fsr)

No.
This is just stupidity of brute forcing an increase in performance with an increase in power draw. It's the same with CPUs. No, thank you, I prefer efficiency.
I also seem to have outgrown playing modern games and the last one I finished, before Stray, was Cyberpunk 2077 almost two years ago. I have a 3080 and use it to play games like Fallout 2 which seems kind of silly.
My tinfoil hat whispers that nVidia purposely made the 40 series stupid and too expensive for what it is. Some will buy it because there are people who will buy anything to feel superior and show everyone they have a lot of money (hey there, Apple fanboys) so there is profit to be made there, but they seem to be sitting on a stockpile of 30x0 GPUs which, by comparison, seem to be a very good buy now.
There is no tinfoil hat in sight, its clear as day Ada is positioned (now) to clear Ampere stock.

And then three months later Nvidia drops an Ada x60 value king making all the poor suckers with their 3060ti's go hard FOMO. Mark my words - as always patience is key.

There is no doubt in my mind Nvidia has a performant, tick all boxes mass market product coming in. Thats why Ampere is such a mess: they didnt think demand for proper VRAM would be this pressing; or they did but wanted a staggered release to profit from mining first.

Rest assured they feel RDNA3 breathing down their necks.

No it doesn’t. That’s for camping out side a store like an idiot. I won’t do that but I’ll pick a card up.

Nah, I thought "lining up" for the card is effectively "buying" the card. It's the same thing written with different words.

As alluded to in the thread I think it’s a USA thing given other member responses. What’s normal for us appears bazaar for them. I read and understood it as others did, as literally camping outside a bestbuy as that thread title states.

do you think 4070 will be a good card?

regarding the value king hypothesis, so you'd be betting for 4070 to be 500 bucks not 700$ (while being more outside of US market anyway)

I think a lot of that will depend on how good RDNA3 is. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4070 only 10% weaker than the 4080 12Gb for 599 usd if RDNA3 is good and not just priced to match the current 3 Ada cards.

I also think Nvidia has realized it's better to price high and let prices drop to whatever the market will bear vs pricing low and letting scalpers/distributors/retailers make tons of profit. Likely also to clear ampere stock.

It wasn't camping, but about two years ago I was in line outside of Costco before they opened for some 'paper products'. No way I'd do that for anything other than essentials. Jeebus, the last two years were strange. :shadedshu:

On topic, I'd love to have a 4090 tier card, but I'm not sure that my current case/cooling would be up to it. I'd probably need a new case and relocate the computer to somewhere less enclosed.
