I think it's the opposite: according to 4090 high efficiency, lower ada are so much better than ampera pref\watt wise that if they are out now no one will buy any ampera. NV will be stuck with all the stock.
I will patiently wait for a 10-12GB Ada GPU down the road with 150w tdp.
I think both considerations are true.

Still though, its a shame the gap between x80 and x90 is so high, and the x80 is in fact rather meagre compared to last gen's x80's. That leaves less room below x80 in the stack as well for substantial perf gains.

But 150W? That might end up being an x50(ti) or something. I mean, x60 is likely going to end up higher...

Did you see the comparative? I've to see it in frame by frame mode to see any differences. In real time, looks the same to me.

DLSS3 dosn't look like a "crap", it's a wonderful tool to take 40fps games and make it 100fps games.
yes, you're right, no difference at all, wouldn't be noticeable in real time... if all you do is watch twitch and video encoder artifacts are second nature to your eyes

It really depends on the tuning. Der8auer has shown how the 4090 only loses ~5% performance from 100% to 60% power limit (which is partly why it scores so high in efficiency in testing here, as it's quite cpu limited in the CP2077 test scenario, and is thus clocking down), but Nvidia has clearly factory OC'd this quite a bit. In other words, lower tier SKUs could be crazy efficient, or they could be quite inefficient - all down to how hard Nvidia wants to push them.

From the Nvidia site. The RTX 4080 16GB looks to be a beast.

you missed the part where it says "dlss on", and the 4000 series fps is colored with the dlss 3 palette - in other words bullshit fake frames lol

And you missed the part where that card is running about dead even the 3090 Ti with DLSS turned off.

Nvidia really has no shame calling that 12gb card a 80 series.

And you missed the part where that card is running about dead even the 3090 Ti with DLSS turned off.

Based on that chart:
  • The RTX 4080 12 GB has a ~22% advantage, in terms of non-DLSS FPS, over the RTX 3080. Its MSRP is 28.5% higher than the 3080's at launch.
  • The RTX 4080 16 GB has a ~53% advantage, in terms of non-DLSS FPS, over the RTX 3080. Its MSRP is 71% higher than the 3080's at launch.
Sure you can make the value look better by comparing against the 3090 Ti's MSRP, but that card was always a bad (gaming) value by design, just as the Titan class cards were. And sure, you can argue that MSRPs on the 30-series quickly became academic after the mining craze hit, but NVIDIA seems to think that mining-craze-era prices should be the norm. We'll see how things go after AMD makes its move (and if/when the backlog of Ampere GPUs clears out), but it's hard to get excited ATM; there's so little room for real perf/price progress lower down the stack.

EDIT: I should have said "non-DLSS FPS" instead of rasterized. I assume the Microsoft Flight Sim numbers are with RT on, but either way I misspoke. Fixed

Nvidia shared benchmarks for various titles. This jumped out at me: notice that the 12 GB 4080 is barely faster than the 3080 10 GB without DLSS.

"bullshit fake frames"

Tell me more...

After reading pre-review earlier speculations of 4x increase in FPS with DLSS 3 enabled... i immediately fell into the "what if" pit of too-good-to-be-true skepticism (marketing gimmickery?). So kill the curiousity, tell me more!

Double the performance. This makes the $1200 4080 DOA. Dead on arrival.
That's at 4K. The 4090 stretches its lead at 4K and not so much at lower resolutions. The 4080's will be geared for 1440P

I’m waiting to see what a 13900k can do. It seems that wizard has one and the testing may already be done. I bet these things will kick ass. 13900k and a 7950x is going to be interesting.

Er, why wouldn't it POST? I'm not going to claim that 750W isn't riding kinda close to the edge, but I can't think of a reason it wouldn't even run.

Depends on the PSU, some don't if they see the power draw of the system at startup exceeds what it's capable of.

Why a 7950 when you can pair that cpu up with a 4090.

That looks really bad. Remember, RTX 3080 is a $700 card, and RTX 4080 "Lite" is a $900 card!

And with the much lower memory bandwidth we could even see games that run much faster on RTX 3080 than on RTX 4080 12Gb!

Of course we might see Nvidia trying to push benchmarks of very select games that will run well on lower bandwidth - and benchmarking sites like this one are already angering Nvidia by mostly benchmarking pure rasterisation, with little focus on raytracing or DLSS...

Just like I was saying back in 3000 vs 6000 efficiency debate, Nvidia on a cutting edge node is far above the rest and it truly shows now:

And that's with the top-tier, no-holds-barred card, designed for maximum performance. Optimize it with lower power limit and some undervolting and you get something that's leagues beyond anything else, which is clearly shown by ridiculously low "60hz v-sync" consumption.

AMD will have a REALLY tough time trying to come anywhere near this with 7000 series, especially if their new cpus are any indication, since they are literally less efficient than previous gen:

a next generation card being on par with the last generation's flagship? wooow, that's insane and unheard of, never seen that happen before, nvidia truly outdid themselves and everyone else :sleep:
hasn't happened with 2080 ti -> 3080...
...or 1080 ti ->2080
...or 980 ti ->1080
...or 780 ti ->980

seriously, what is it with you people; you look at an expected performance uplift of a new generation of gpus and you treat it as some kind of impossible feat... sound like utter shills trying to drum up excitement for overpriced cards

Agreed, 5800x is more or less 4-5 year old performance (8700k-9900k) and simply isn't nearly good enough to unlock the full potential of this beast, especially at 1080p, but probably also at 1440p in many cases, maybe even at 4k in a couple. Testing with 13900k will give the proper picture (or I guess 7000x3d if and when they arrive, but that's still months away).
