Increase the power limit of my Palit RTX 4090 GameRock

I have a Palit RTX 4090 GameRock graphics card. This video card has 3x8 pin on 12vhpwr and 450w power limit in bios. If I flash the bios from a Palit RTX 4090 GameRock OC with a 500W bios, will my graphics card work after flashing the bios?

Power will be taken from 3x150w + 75w pcie. 525w. Power will be with a margin.

The difference is that the Palit RTX 4090 GameRock OC has a 4x8pin on 12vhpw adapter and a 500w bios. Board Number PG139 SKU 330 identical for both models.

If you have to ask what flashing your cards BIOS will do, then you probably shouldn't do it. BIOS flashing isn't a game you can easily quit out of when it goes wrong. It's technically a warranty breaking process that may or may not improve a cards performance.

AFAIK, the 4 connectors supply 600W to the card, so a flash to gain an extra 50W seems pointless.

I know what a bios firmware is. I flashed the bios on my RTX 3090. Both 3090 models had the same number of 8 pin power cables. My question is, if I flash a 500w bios, will the extra power for my 3x8pin graphics card come from pcie (75w)

RTX 4090 GPUs are tuned to pull low amounts of power from the PCIE slot itself (about 15W peak). It will just pull more power from the cables

Don't risk it when some people would kill for a 4090. You don't want an expensive paperweight.

I can't say if the bios will work. However I can say it will not work with the adapter. There is a sensor that looks power limit to 450 watt as long it only sensor 3 8 pin connected. 4 8 pin is needed to unlock power limit beyond 450 watt. So you would at least need another adapter with 4 8 pins. Also only 3 8 pins cant deliver enough wattage safety. 1 8 pin is rated for max 150 watt, so 3 8 pin can maximum handle 450 watt. 4 8 pins is simply needed. Else it is locked and if not locked, you risk overloading your psu power rails.

Also with bios upgrade, you risk it failing and bricks your gpu and makes your expensive card a useless paperweight.

I would not risk it. There is a reason for why you only get a 3 pin adaptor. The card is not designed for higher sustained load over 450 watts.

I can use 4x8 pin of 12vhpwr adapter instead of 3x8 pin of 12vhpwr? Where i can buy original nvidia 4x8 pin of 12vhpwr adapter?

i think palit are being cheeky.. the only difference between the OC version and none OC version is one comes with 4 x 8 pin adapter the other dosnt..
he he..

i just received one it has the 3 x 8 pin adapter.. i just set mine to a 120 fps max cap and 80% power.. i run a 1440 resolution.. running the heaven benchmark it draws about 320 watts from the wall..

i will run timespy on those setting and see what it scores.. :)

trog

ps.. i just ran my little test.. 0ne palit 4090 with a 80% power setting and 120 max fps.. the timespy score was just under 19000 (better than i expected) about the same as a 3090ti but with less power draw..

As the card has a dual bios switch it will be relatively risk free if you know your stuff. I recommend watching the buildzoid's video on this card as he was disappointed by the vcore VRM and by the Nvidia adapter as well. The 3 8 pin may actually be better if there is real pin to pin termination as opposed to the flimsy adapter where the middle cables terminate to 4 pads while the outliers are 1 lead to 1 pin and break easily and melt. Ugly story.

I Will say this. I don't know if it will work with your card. I just know that with cards that has 4 8 pins, but only 3 connected. Will be locked at 450 watt.

Cablemods can maybe make you a cable or you can ask around is this or other forums that maybe be willing to sell you a adaptor with 4 8 pins. But this is 100 % at your own risk. I would not recommend to try it out. Specially not with a card that maybe is not designed at all to handle 4 8 pins. It might shorten out and damage your card. Also the original adapter has shown to be a possible fire hazard as wires seems to easily break of and causing melting of the connector. I am planning to replace my own connector as well. It's ugly and I don't want a potential fire hazard in my pc or for that matter in my home.

I saw a video about one of those 450w 4090s, not sure if there is anything you can do it might be locked at that power limit.

Today I flashed the bios from Palit RTX 4090 GameRock OC 500W bios but I can't increase the power limit because I have a 3x8 pin power cable. To increase the power limit, you need a 4x8pin cable. Ordered 4x8 pin cable here https://www.moddiy.com/products/ATX...in-to-12VHPWR-16-Pin-Power-Adapter-Cable.html The description of this cable is better than the standard one from Nvidia.
I think you are mad to flash a 4090 and slightly more mad to put 600 watts through a card designed for only 450 watts. If it goes bang, can I have it, just to look at as that is about as close as I'll ever get to owning one... :D :nutkick:

I have this card too. Can you write instructions for how to flash it to OC version bios?

Just download it from palit website on gamerock oc page, unarchive it and click on file inside?

1. Download NVIDIA NVFlash 5.792.0 from here https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-nvflash/

2. Extract files from archive, rename folder to nvflash and move to disk C:\

The path should be like this C:\nvflash

3. Download latest bios Palit RTX 4090 GameRock OC from here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vBZsxAlCbOuWwvBlsJ0Ea644uApBa5hi/view?usp=sharing and move file to folder
C:\nvflash

4. Open cmd.exe from admin privileges

5. Use the following command:

cd C:/nvflash
nvflash32 --protectoff
nvflash32 -6 palit4090oc.rom
exit

Now restart your computer, reinstall the nvidia video driver and get the Palit RTX 4090 GameRock OC with the latest BIOS.

I also noticed that you have 95.02.18.80.55 version. But on techpowerup bios collection it name 95.02.18.00.AC, and it has 500w power limit too. What’s the difference?

95.02.18.00.AC old version from dated September 15, 2022. 95.02.18.80.55 new version from dated October 12, 2022.

95.02.18.80.55 VBIOS RELEASE NOTE
OBE builds with UEFI 70009 image, resolve no display issue before the driver loading with some mobo when booting the system.
