Arctic today unveiled the MX-6 thermal-compound. The incoming MX-6 replaces MX-5 from the shelves, which is now EOL, but retails alongside the MX-4, Arctic's best-selling TIM. The new MX-6 is a high-viscosity, non-conductive, non-capacitive thermal paste which doesn't corrode pure copper. It is suitable for processor IHS, exposed dies (such as GPUs), or even ceramic packages (such as DRAM chips).

The Arctic MX-6 has a viscosity of 550 poise, density of 3.2 g/cm³, 1.9 X 1013 Ω-cm, and a breakdown voltage of 250 V/mil. Each application can stay in place for 8 years (maintain conductivity and viscosity). The company didn't mention chemical composition or conductivity figures, yet. It comes in syringe-type dispensers of 2 g, 4 g, and 8 g, as well as a bundle of a 4 g dispenser with six MX Cleaner wipes. The MX-6 is available from now, priced at USD $6.79 for the 2 g syringe, $8.49 for the 4 g syringe, $9.79 for the 4 g syringe and 6 pieces of MX Cleaner wipes; and $11.99 for the 8 g syringe. These are introductory prices.

here's hoping for some tests of this on the forum or by TPU themselves, GN is I think Thermal Grizzly sponsored so its a bit off for them to test it

Certain batches had problems with material separation that Arctic was apparently unable to solve.
I've experienced that first hand.

It's funny that Mazda never sued for the name.

GN doesn't test thermal compounds. Running ads doesn't mean they are biased towards TG. Just look at their coverage of LGA1700 frames.

The differences would be slim when compared to the overall cooler solution and would vary with each installation. I don't know if it's very viable to do performance comparisons other than good/bad/terrible without very specific equipment.

MX-5 was generally a very slight improvement over MX-4 while being a lot more difficult to apply properly.

Hopefully with MX-6 they've rectified the issue while improving thermal conductivity even further.

And unfortunately with Ryzen 7000 CPUs delidding does 10 times better than the best thermal paste out there.

Still better than MX-3. :p That thing was just... something else.

on the product page it also says for consoles, and its in the head title of it for the amazon product page too. i just know some idiot is going to see that and replace his liquid metal in the ps5 with it... sigh.

Sales: How can we increase sales numbers for our Artic Thermal paste.
Marketing. Let's increase the MX number from five to six and increase the price as well.
Sales: Brilliant!

if you look at the amazon product page, it claims 20% performance improvement over MX-4.

No matter how good the thermal paste, it can't reduce the overall thermal resistance, just add more or add less to it. Ryzen 7000 and their thick IHS screwed the pooch so delidding them is a really interesting proposition

yeah, it is interesting, except delidding ryzen is dangerous. even Der8auer broke a 7700x trying to delid it gently.

another reason i went with raptor lake for my farewell build. that ihs is too thick on the new zen chips, i agree with that. not sure what AMD is thinking

im not saying they are biased, its just not something, I would think even they themselves would say, that should be done by them, being in their position.
And yeah they were not sponsored by/for the frame, but they repeatedly were sponsored by/for the thermal paste.

You said sponsored, they aren't sponsored. They run ads from various manufacturers, that's different.

Hm...I have tried many different types, I always go back to Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme. Will TPU give it a test?

Yeah... 6 is 50% more than 4, so it should be at least 50% better!

I'll see how screwed it is soon. I've got a 7700X with some RAM and mobo arriving tomorrow. For now, I just think all current-gen CPUs (both Intel and AMD) are driven way out of their ideal spot on the efficiency curve which can be fixed with Eco mode or some tweaking, but I'll see soon enough.

yeah, it is interesting, except delidding ryzen is dangerous. even Der8auer broke a 7700x trying to delid it gently.

Farewell build?

TG is awesome, just a bit too expensive (at least here in the UK). A 4 g tub of regular Kryonaut costs a bit above £20 on Amazon, while you can get the MX-4 in the same size for a fiver. The Kryonaut Extreme costs even more than that.

not sure what AMD is thinking
Given they pulled the Band-Aid on DDR4 support with AM5 and addition of PCI-e 5 led to bloated prices for motherboards, they were scared of blacklash from "reviewers" if even CPU cooler compatibility was killed off further pushing price for new platform(though as Louis Rossman say they should have been the full b***** which would have certainly led to better thermals on AM5 platform).
