What is it RTX 3080 12Gb or RTX 3080 TI?

The 3080 12GB never launched with an official MSRP. Since the 10GB models were going for upwards of $1000-1100 when the 12GB came out, I remember the 12GB coming in hot around $1200+ and selling. But that was all during the "shortages" and mining craze. If I remember correctly, the 3080Ti ended up getting as high as $1600 when the 3090s and 3090Tis were hitting that $2k range.

None of them actually came in at the $1200 for an actual, true MSRP. The 3080Ti was a $1100 MSRP and the 3080 12GB was eventually given an official $800 MSRP.

Not that I'm even considering a gpu over 500$ but will the 4080's come with the same problematic power plug's the 4090's come with?
Definitely, yes. The 308iip came with the 12-pin which is the same as this 16-pin just without the sense wires after all.
And i think this is also why AMD do not go all in but just try to make good GPU where they can get good margin while still being competitive.
I think it's very strange to say AMD aren't "going all in" - they just launched a $1000 flagship GPU for crying out loud, one that promises massive performance gains over their previous one, and one that uses a brand new packaging tech that has never been seen before in consumer GPUs. They are definitely going all in.

What I think you're misinterpreting as not doing so is the simple resource difference between AMD and Nvidia. Nvidia is many times the size of AMD, has much higher R&D budgets and tons more staff, and AMD thus has to pick their battles and look for alternative approaches - which means they rarely have a 1:1 competitor to every Nvidia option out there, but on the other hand innovate a lot to keep up with less rresources. But in the case of RDNA3, the 7900XTX is definitely going all out. Remember, these chip designs were finalized something like a year ago - and they have to aim for their best guess at what the competition will deliver. There will obviously be differences between flagship SKUs - there are far too many variables in play, and competition planning is essentially blind up until a product is launched.

Pricing is completely out of wack for 4080. Also why I choose to just go with a 4090. The price difference is just to little.

And I am actually happy with 4090, if it was not for the awful ciol whine my and others suffers from. So I am waiting for 4090 to be better available and I am going to rma my card. It's really a shame besides the coil whine I am satisfied with my Asus rtx 4090 tuf oc. But the level of coil whine is unacceptable.
Exactly why it was priced like that, to for suckers into buying the 4090.

NVIDIA appears to be telling its partners to sell
This says is all, and Nvgreedia wonders why EVGA left them in the dust.

It will still OOS regardless of price...
Not as much as people will dish out that extra $50 for less than 10% performance increase.

The only way to change this idiocy is to punish their bottom line, hard. Not for the launch. Not for a few months. We have to PUNISH them until they realize who wields the power in this bassackwards relationship. Only when they drop prices back to reasonable levels. Levels that we as CONSUMERS determine. Then and only then, will we hit the buy button again!

Sounds like a damned good fairytale doesn't it?! hahaha

Lose 30% performance to save 50 bucks? Count me in. /s

The 4080 is overpriced as is. At $50 less than the 4090, it makes even less sense.

Never understood the logic of getting a lower tier GPU for the same price of the next tier, nothing can justify the loss in performance.
I can think of one plausible reason for this: people going for the 4080 because the 4090 would require a PSU and/or case upgrade. In that case it's not 50$ difference, more like over 150$.

They know that outside the tech communities, very few people actually buy AMD, they would prefer to buy a lower end Nvidia than AMD.
As a G-Sync monitor owner, I'm also in a similar "dilemma", I understand AMD are delivering better perf/$ but then I wouldn't benefit from the monitor's sync features. And because my budget for upgrades is around ~400€, the way I see it, I'll either spend 400€ on a Nvidia card or 400€ for and a AMD card + monitor, and in this scenario Nvidia "wins"...

Not gonna happen. For that to have even the slightest effect you'd need to be able to organize a mass scale boycott - which would then need to go way beyond enthusiast circles. Good luck with that. Boycotts are essentially never effective.

4090 has faux MSRP akin to 2080ti.
Diff to real price is at least 350 bucks.

4080 will sell out immediately on release and will be available on Ebay for the price of the 4090. AMD 7900 will sell out immediately on release and will be available on Ebay for the price of a 4080. Other versions from both manufacturers will appear throughout 2023 with same levels of difficulty in the supply chain. This will be the norm for the next 8+ months, but will it be the new normal?

I'm in for a 7900XTX on release to replace my 2080Ti, a nice upgrade without breaking the bank. If I can't get one on release, I'll wait because I don't have a need to pay the bragging rights tax so that I can post on discord/reddit.

I really hope you are trolling.:laugh::laugh: 473fps for a shitty game that you can have the exact same level of competitivity with 100-120fps?
I really hope you are not serious. I play competitive CounterStrike with frame caps at 100fps with absolutely no issues what so ever. For me the most important things are a good quality mouse and the ultra wide monitor for extra fov.
Other than that is just fun and fun. But then again, I play other games too, where I always use capped 100fps and G-Sync on. Probably will take another 10 years until I upgrade my PC...

Lol I played competitive CSGO too, quit at LEM years ago because there are cheaters in every match.

You are doing a disservice to yourself capping FPS to 100 and playing CSGO on an Ultra Wide, but well if you are having fun...

Anyways just have fun with your hardware

Good luck. Most partners do not accept RMA's for coil whine. I assume you tried out the following options:

Best option is to return the card before you're out of the return window. But chances are big that you get the same issues again with a new card of the same type. Before returning the card you could also try to "burn in" the coils. Just run something heavy demanding like Furmark or MSI Kombustor for 24hrs straight. But have an eye on it in case your connector catches fire, lol.

Another option is to try out a different PSU (BeQuiet, Corsair, or something else in the top class). With a PSU that has better ripple you can dramatically reduce coil whine.
Cultists PSU Tier List (also check the annotations *[1][8] for your current PSU, "Phanteks | Revolt X")
Cybenetics PSU Database (detailed reports incl. ripple tests for download)
* [1] Units experiencing tripping issues with high transient power draw GPUs like AMD Vega, 6900 XT and Nvidia RTX3080/3090. Generally fixed in newer batches.
* [8] Seasonic PRIME based units experience shutdowns with RTX3080/3090 (and possibly RX6900 XT) GPUs. The cause is not the OCP tripping but a PSU design flaw as evident by the PSU not latching off on shutdown and 1000W+ models being affected too. Doesn’t manifest in 100% cases as it’s also dependent on motherboard model and GPU OC. Seasonic provides a new 24-pin cable to fix this via support.

At this point I can imagine the whole Nvidia being run by crypto enthusiasts, who are treating this whole Ada generation as a "hodl" so the cards will be perfectly priced for the next crypto insanity run - even if that means two years of red numbers.

There is no other explanation for these kind of price increases.

This is simply absurd. $350 above MSRP for some fancy heatsink/fan design...

Anyway I won't be paying $1.2k for a graphics card let alone $1.5k+. I might try to get a bargain on the last gen (6800XT is already within the affordable price range) after both NV and AMD launch their next gen.

I think people are finally starting to wake up and may for the first time consider AMD, even though those cards may not be performance king, but are best value for the dollar and that value for dollar is probably more important to consumers dealing with inflation, especially considering there isn't a new game being released that would drive GPU sales.

I also think that people are simply sick of the market in general whereby you pay high prices for cards that are never available. It's a toxic mix for the consumer and the only recurse, to an extend is AMD, who I hope take some market share.

Well I can tell you I have just returned it today. Managed to get a gigabyte 4090. So I hope this is coil whine free or at least down to a acceptable level.
