Do we seriously need to witness "China bad" narrative comments on each damn China related news?

It's not a narrative. China openly states they are preparing for war and want to attack Taiwan. That's a fact, not a narrative. As for people saying you're crazy to make your business dependent on China, you might want to ask the 80 percent of foreigners that used to love China and live there, that have now left. Maybe don't invite people in and then mistreat them until they leave.

The Chinese government in 2022 is pretty crazy compared to what I dealt with 15 years ago. Feel sorry for everyone left in China. It's not going to a good place.

Yes. Russia bad too -slash- same political boat.

If this means more availability, I'm all for it if it affects prices downward. Such large scale moves are clearly politically motivated. This thread was political once the news was posted.

And that means we should discuss politics? I guess I've read the forum rules wrong.
Well, it's not like people are adding politics to non-political news. Unfortunately everything about this has to do with politics. I suspect that nVidia is getting out before China's hold on Hong Kong is as tight as the other provinces. Considering China's history of stealing IP and data, it's not at all surprising that nVidia is making this move. The real question is if Taiwan is far away enough. Either way, the world will be in for a lot of hurt should China attempt to seize Taiwan... and so will China because unlike Ukraine, Taiwan has a pretty sophisticated military and Biden's comment about coming to Taiwan's aid should give China some pause. We've already demonstrated that we can tip the scales in a conflict like with Ukraine.

All in all, I see what you're saying, but it's really hard to split politics from this article because it has everything to do with world politics.

Not really. Russia has given international investors ample lessons in how "safe" their investments in autocratic states are.

To politics, economy and politics can't be separated, if the investment is located in totalitarian states, who are confrontational. If nVidia disinvest in China, western countries impose sanctions, China threatens Taiwan with war, there are only two possibilities:
Deactivate the comment function or allow political discussions.

I think forum loses credibility by alowing such discussions. Chauvinist comments doesn't insult me directly, but it's just showing how ignorant and hypocritical some people are. Tech-savy people should know better. I'm arguing about this topic all the time, because I love this place, and I feel at home here. Otherwise I wouldn't give a damn.

Such comments then correspond to the forum rules and are apolitical? Refer to nVidia? Is a technical argument? I dont think so.

Ignoring how everything about this revolves around global politics isn't doing anyone any favors. It's far more ignorant to ignore the main drivers for such a move which are political in nature. By your definition, we should flat out ignore anything in tech that might be related to politics which in and of itself is by definition willfully ignorant. Now arguing for one political outcome or another should be frowned upon, but the reality is that this is a political article, there is no getting around that.

This coming from someone who enters a political thread and conversation and proceeds to point fingers of hypocrisy at everyone else while riding a high horse telling us we should know better but yet doenst lead by example? I'm just pointing out the flaw in your argument, nothing more. I dont disagree with everything you said jsut so you know.

I agree that, knowing this would spark polical conversation, TPU should have disabled comments to avoid such arguments that plays footsie with the Forum Rules. And this thread should be closed since its heading off topic.

By "tech-savy people should know better" I meant to say something like: people should use the internet to gather more relevant info, and filter out the propaganda stuff the mass media is forcing to our brains.
I'm giving an example by not discussing politics, and ignoring all the provocations to do so.

By your definition, we should flat out ignore anything in tech that might be related to politics which in and of itself is by definition willfully ignorant.
By my definition, we should try not to engage discussion which could lead to insults to the whole nations, using judgement based on individual preferences, and stay on tech related topic.

I would like you to point out how I insulted China or Taiwan, or better yet, said anything that is untrue. I thought that my analysis was pretty objective. Also, tell me, what about this topic is tech related? It's the moving of a logistics center which isn't really a technical topic in the first place. So I think discussing this is fine so long as you're not a raging dick about it. The main reason for the rule is to prevent threads from devolving into chaos, not to avoid topics.

You didn't, but others did. Some people just stalk and wait for a chance to say bad things about some countries. And if you pay attention enough, it's almost the very same people each time. Acting like bots to say at least.

Well, I have some opinions about it but I'm trying to not go into it. I personally think that this is a sensible move by nVidia. Hong Kong isn't as stable as it used to be and it poses a very real risk to leaking IP should China assert full control over Hong Kong. That's the crux of the issue. I guess you could spin it to say nVidia is trying to get their logistics center closer to where their chips are being produced, but I'm not sure if I buy that.

Also, if people are being dicks, just report the posts and leave it at that. If it's more than the mods want to handle, they'll lock the thread. We don't need to "play moderator," as TPU has some pretty awesome mods. Let them do what they're good at.

I agree on the first part. Polite discussion is fine, even about sensitive topics. But using every chance to input terms like lack of civil rights, freedom, democracy, and how the country a) is dictatorship and country b) is bastion of freedom, and other similar mantras, isn't really constructive talk.

OFC, all the most sophisticated western tech companies will eventually pull out from China, but only after they used their cheap workforce to yield insane profits, and before their investment is under the threat of any kind. It's kinda logical move.
I do have faith in our mods, and I know they have fair judgement, that's why I even bother. And yes I do report when i feel something is over the edge.

I guess it's enough from me on this. I'll try to ignore these from now on. It feels like fighting the windmills anyway. :D
