SOLVED

Hello guys! As the title suggests, there seems to be a problem with my GPU using anisotropic filtering. I just switched to a new GPU, used the AMD cleanup utility (even tried DDU once), installed drivers (a couple different versions) and I still seem to get horrible texture filtering. Just look at this(click on the image):

My settings are as follows in AMD Adrenalin (worked perfectly before):

Did anyone have this issue? Is there a way to try and force it in a different way? The list of games where it doesn't work: Assetto Corsa, Skyrim, ME:Andromeda, Dying Light, Fallout 4, Crysis 2/3 Remastered,...

EDIT: I have found the solution for this issue!!! Link: reddit
All you have to do is use 8x instead of 16x because it seems to be bugged. Comparison of the 8x settings vs 16x:
16X

8X (YES BABY!)

What drivers, did you get an os update?

Latest drivers as always. No OS update either. Some games like Forza 5 or CS:GO don't seem to have this issue, but many, many do. And it's not even DX version/Vulkan dependent. :(

Does DDU flush the shader cache?

Otherwise it looks more like it’s using low res textures

Man I was thinking that could be the problem, but the texture settings I used with my old Vega were always to the max except in Forza 5 because it ate up my VRAM. Is there a chance there's still a shader file that was made for my Vega and it's somehow messing sh*t up? Look at just how bad the textures are in Crysis 2 Remastered. Never played the game before on my Vega so I don't think cached shaders could be an issue here:

Look at this manhole, it looks horrible after being only 2,5-3 metres away. I can't play my games like this :D

Forcing AF from within the control panel only affects DX9 titles. It'll only work if the game doesn't use it natively or has a lower level set internally.

Incorrect, works it used to in other games too.
Look at how crispy clean long distance textures are in Forza 5.

For example, in Assetto Corsa not even the in-game AF is working properly.

Haven't noticed anything on Terraria ;)

Good to know, now i understand why Destiny 2 textures looked so poorly after switching GPUs

My friend had the same problem on a 6700 XT. I read online the same problems sometimes occur even on the 5000 series cards. The switch also works for other applications, not just DX9 as it says in the tooltip.

If anyone has shitty looking textures on the newer AMD cards, use AF X8 instead of AF X16 because X16 is bugged.

@Thimblewad a little question about your temps, I noticed in your screenshot your temps are quite cold in that fps game for the 6800 xt. is that just a very easy to run game? i hit 89 or so on my hotspot temp in-demanding games.

Nah, the game is not really easy to run, it maxes out my 6800XT, but I have made a couple of tweaks to it (I'm an OC fanatic ).
I'm running it on 1050 mV, 2600 MHz set max clock in Adrenalin and 2150 MHz on the memory with fast timings.
Power limit is default (255 W → +0%).

I have a huge amount of fans and the case is open on one side (that helps the most I think). Custom fan curve is also applied and maxes out at around 2500ish RPM. I know it's not the prettiest but as you can see, temps are very low so the card boosts as much as it can :) Edit: My old Vega 56 fried the white extension cables, that's why there's no pretty white cables on the GPU )

I wouldn't even know where to start on how to do all that, wow that is impressive.

I am still waiting on 1usmus 1 click OC for the 6800 xt, its out now for his Patreon crew, but apparently it will turn a 6800 xt into 3090 performance levels at the push of 1 click.

You can do it all from the AMD Adrenalin app. I'm currently at work and on my laptop, so I can't take pictures of my config, but when I get home I can share it with you and we can give a couple of settings a try! :toast: If you're running on stock speeds you should be able to put the core voltage to 1050 mV easily and that will already decrease your temperature. But as I said, when I get home we can have a chat, I'd be happy to help! :)

@Space Lynx I just came home so if you have time, tag me!
