Oh hell yeahThere may be non-gaming related considerations that may lead to people choosing 1440p.
Gaming monitors are usually just "this combination of parts had a fast response time, so lets call it gaming"
Which is why gamers were happy with garbage TN panels for a decade because marketing told them they wanted it
Then IPS came along, and people wanted IPS
And now it's the new fast VA panels (samsungs 240Hz lineup)
X panel is made with failure rates that set it at Z price
HDMI/DP ports and electronics at price A exist for low refresh and price B for high refresh
Sell the same panel in multiple combinations at various prices based on who mixed what tech in (RGB, better stands, USB hubs, speakers, etc etc)
People act like these monitors are lab grown from genetically engineered PC master race DNA or something, when reality of manufacturing is based around "We have these 20 or so parts available, what combinations can we make" - and when they get them at a good deal (offcuts like the ultrawides) then they CREATE a market for it
It's why LCD's went from 5:4 to 16:10 - oh hey those dimensions math up if you use more of the sheet
And then 4:3 became 16:9
As 5:4 ratios died off they stopped making the 16:10 on the same assembly lines, and those aspect ratios vanished together
