Hi all, my EVGA GTX 980Ti is beginning to fail on me. It's turning off signal and flashing white under certain stress. I've tried everything, new PSU, changing the clocks, power management, moving the RAM around, testing each stick. I tested the benchmark with my integrated graphics and it worked fine.

Someone suggested as a last resort I can look for a new BIOS for it. I've looked on here, but can only seem to find ones that were compiled in 2015, is there nothing newer?

VBIOS is: 84.00.41.00.90

All help is appreciated, I can't afford to replace it, so I'm trying everything I can go get it running again.

Perhaps not all of us are fortunate enough to afford such a thing, and would like to see if it's capable of being fixed - or even identifying if the GPU IS actually at fault first.

have you tried repasting it?
Yes sir, I have! Unfortunately it didn't help, No Signal and shutdowns tend to happen at random intervals while running the benchmark, temperature doesn't seem to factor.

Reflowing? (with flux)
I'm sorry, I'm a bit of a noob and don't understand what you mean by this, could you elaborate? Thank you!

they don't revise VBIOS as time goes on unless there is a true necessity for it. that is not often. so if your card is several years old it is normal for the VBIOS to be equally as old. your card most likely is suffering from degraded components after countless hours of use. as in, the symptoms you describe could potentially being memory chips going bad. stopping short of replacing worn or damaged or broken components if that is the case, you have no other suggestions to follow likely.

have you tried repasting it?
this is not good advice. let's not give false hope to someone who 99% likely doesn't have the skills to even do that job, even if it was remotely associated with the symptoms they described.

Classified ACX 2.0+, SuperClocked+, Hybrid, FTW?
I can modify the BIOS so it's not boosting that high, just post your BIOS here if you would. You can extract it with the GPU-Z.

ACX 2.0+I believe the file I've attached is the stock ROM

All a BIOS flash could do would be a permanent downclock (hoping that this fixes the issue), it's a bandaid and is just making your card worse. Could also just do this with a desktop app and not go messing with a BIOS.

Sounds like it's time to save some money and buy a new (or used) card. Make a WTB post in the correct sub forum here and put your budget in it, you'll find something.

Again, you can downclock without touching the BIOS.. just use Afterburner. (If downclocking didn't fix it before, a bios downclock isn't either)

This is also a bandaid fix, your card is going to die so start shopping around.

Although I mentioned reflowing, I do not recommend it unless you send it to a professional to do it.

Bios won’t fix it, the damage is already done. Time for an upgrade

I’m guessing it’s the memory.

Despite what everyone was saying, I did the flash anyway as a peace of mind thing. Obviously didn't work, lol.

I guess it is time for an upgrade... I can't afford one right now, but I'll save some money .

Annoying because I only want to play World of Warcraft, and I'm itching to play it right now not in however many months.

I think many people are disillusioned with thinking that a bios update will indeed release the magic. I have been in the hobby since 2002 and in that time I can count the number of times I thought a bios update would help my GPU on one hand.

I wouldn’t say I’m disalussioned, I’d say I’m lost, and desperate to find a fix that doesn’t include spending money lol. Was willing to try last resorts. I don’t HAVE money to spend, my circumstances don’t allow, and my PC is a big part of my life unfortunately. Without going into detail.

Anyway, I’ve tried it now, it didn’t work as expected LOL.

Seems to get harder to run with each passing expansion, I guess if my 980Ti runs it (when it’s working) at max then something under that should be relatively okay. Will have to see what’s doable after Christmas period!
