The biggest problem is they like to limit the fans to say 60% to keep the noise down. there is absolutely no excuse not to have the fan ramping up to 100% when the temps require it. the fans should be at 100% before the card thermal throttles.

They should also bundle hearing protection with that.

I'd love to see more GPU's just take 1 or 2 standard 120mm fans, hec even 120x15 so they're thinner but already standard holes to mount anything you want. The only real drawback at all seems to be physical size, maybe some added cost.

My 3080 Deshrouded and fed by 2xArctic P12 is insanely cool and quiet vs the stock TUF fans, and the card was praised in stock form, the results with these Noctua's or T30's would be epic, and if they came with stndard mounting the door opens to any fans you choose. Hell even 3x standard 92mm fans so we get more options would be welcome.

The only caveat here is that, like pretty much always, these seem CUSTOM fans. This means you still have to resort to the manufacturer should one or both fans encounter problems later in the card's "life", which would not happen if the fans were standard, as you could them simply swap them for whatever fan you fancied at that time.

Why don't manufacturers realize that using STANDARD fans is actually A GOOD THING?

I mean, they could use slim fans but leave space in the card's shroud (have it NOT cover the fans) so that you could swap the slim fans for regular height (or even thicker) fans should you so desire, thus improving on the card's performance via better cooling but @ the cost of the card "becoming thicker" and / or having different noise levels.

There's no excuse for these cards to be 4 slots in size. They are just taking a 2.5-slot heatsink that was designed to have 12mm fans on it, and slapping two nf-a12x25 on it. With a better heatsink design they could easily get this down to max 3 slots or even 2.5. I could do the same setup with the scythe setsugen 2 + nf-p12, twelve years ago; it was only 2.5 slots in height (single fan, but it only had to cool max. ~220W cards).

Think you answered your own question there, but it would be nice if Noctua actually designed a GPU heatsink.

Really? Then try and place ANY OTHER similar sized fans in such a card WITHOUT having to modify them ... it CAN be done, but you have to modify the fans to do it, not to mention opening the card's shroud in order to access the fans.

What i'm suggesting is:

- disconnect current fan
- remove current fan
- add newer fan
- connect new fan
- done, all without opening the card's shroud

Basically, the same thing you can do with almost all CPU coolers (that don't come with the CPUs) and their original fan(s).

I kinda feel the same about Noctua.
I will admit they are good but the price they ask for their stuff is way much considering there are some very similar performing products that are cheaper.

Looks are subjective but I'm also in the group who can't stand their poop colors. 'at least their chromax is a right step in that regard'


A friend of mine built a brand new PC ~1+ years ago and I helped him picking parts since he was really out of the loop but he was dead set on buying the most expensive Noctua CPU cooler cause reasons.
I suggested him a cheaper Be Quiet! alternative and he wouldn't even consider it. '11700K CPU which he will never OC so it wasn't even needed but I coulnd't change his mind'

I stand corrected for THAT CARD: judging by the pic in the 1st post, i thought the fans weren't standard but, as can be seen in the videos you posted, they clearly are. It's the shroud that misled me in to thinking they weren't standard.

Still, with the shroud covering the fans, you can't place thicker fans in that card, like those 30mm thick fans (don't recall their brand name), so that's an option you don't have right there.

Ordinarily though, GPU fans tend to be proprietary, which make them a pain to replace if / when the need arises and THAT is what should change.
