My ASUS TUF motherboard does not read second M.2 SSD

Hi,
My motherboard is ASUS TUF B360M-PLUS GAMING, I bought my PC already build from LYNX. There was 2TB HDD WD Blue and 240GB M.2 SSD ADATA XPG SX8200 PCIe Gen 3x4 M.2 2280 (in M.2_1 slot) built in. As I checked there are two to me identical M.2 slots, both of these slots were working before I put in the new M.2 2280 NVMe SSD WD Blue SN570. After putting the new one in only the M.2_2 slot is reading whichever SSD I put in and M.2_1 doesnt read any of them anymore. I also attache picture from my motherboards manual where it says something about one of the slots being disabled. I did a lot of research yet I am not an expert and dont understand this issue completely and dont know how to solve this problem or if there even is a solution. I played with bios and broke and fixed my computer few times since I dont know what I am doing, but I just couldnt make my computer read the second SSD if it even can?
Help me please to make both of the M.2 slots work or just give me a final answer that the second slot will be disabled forever. I can get some pictures from my bios if necessary. Cant wait to learn more. Thank you for any response!

Hi,
Interesting
Was windows already installed ?

Seems optimize defaults with just the 250gb installed would be best
It should install with pci-e mode because sata mode would not be a default.

After install the second m.2

I mean, did the bios recognize it ?

Yes, before I added the new ssd into M.2_2 it did recognize M.2_1, I wouldnt boot in otherwise since the original SSD has my windows on. It stopped recognizing this slot only after I added the new one in.

Hmmmm ...
The slot M.2_1 accepts SATA and / or PCIE mode, so literally anything you throw in it.
The WD Blue570 should do it as it's an PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I thought it also may be that the slot is just faulty, but I only started to touch the M.2_1 after it had stopped working and it litterally just stopped reading after I added the WD one in to M.2_2 I then had to switch them in their slots because otherwise I wouldnt boot in since my windows is on the ADATA one.

Hi,
No I was just making sure
Adata is the smallest m.2 then go into bios and switch it to pci-e mode should be all it takes.

If all else fails contact the builder could have a defective m.2 or they can tell you how to switch m.2 modes in bios and get the larger m.2 working the same mode.

I feel like i have tried everything, when i wanted to change modes it never shows any options for the M.2_1 only the M.2_2.

I don't know how helpful my post will be but when I first got it on my Z690 Gaming X motherboard none of the M2 ports were working. I updated the BIOS, problem solved. Is your BIOS up to date?

Hello, yeah just today I tried to run an update and it is up to date, even tho I was wery hopefull it didnt help. At this point when everyone says it should work or atleast there should be some kind of setting in the bios that should help, nothing works so I am starting to accept the fact that there is a hardware issue and one of the M.2 ports just failed somehow.

Hi,
Use this in the os and see if it shows the larger m.2 and post a screen shot :/
By the way don't update when asked
MiniTool Partition Wizard 11.5 version clean don't update
Hey, would the m.2 show in here even tho it doesnt appear anywhere in the BIOS? I am coming to acceptance of the port being faulty.

I myself am not sure where to look anymore, this is just only place in the bios i found mention of any M.2 :D

Change your SATA mode from Intel RST to AHCI mode. You don't seem to use Optane and this option is for RAID'ing your HDD with Optane drives. You can try unplugging all SATA drives too. If it still doesn't work please boot any Linux distro and run lspci -tv so we know how pci-e is wired on this board as there seems no mention of it in the manual.

Hi,
Best way to know is to check and see
You can use cmd as admin and use these commands
diskpart

list disk

If it shows both disks post up.

It is in AHCI mode, I was just looking through the menu there. I tried unplugging SATA, nothing changed. And I will need to do a little search on how to do the thing with Linux distro :D

Hi,
Yes mini tool will see the m.2
Then you can easily format to gpt and create a partition for what ever files/ games you want.

Or
select disk 1

clean

covert gpt

exit

Good to know :D I have seen some MOBOs with insane defaults before so just making sure. And for Linux just go with Ubuntu LiveCD or something and do "sudo lspci -tv" in terminal. Would be best if you tried first with only M2_1 populated first and then with both of the populated so it will be easier to read. The whole issue seems like there not being enough PCI-E lanes to drive everything or address conflict.

Hi,
By the way the m.2 not being gpt might be why it's not showing up in bios
You are in uefi boot only so the m.2 formatted mbr disk would not appear.

Hi, and how would I solve this?
Hi,
Install free mintool
Open it
Don't update when asked

It should show the large m.2 "like I said I only have one disk connected it's mbr to it states it as Basic MBR
Click on it and click on convert MBR to gpt and apply.

After that you can go ahead and create a primary partition.

If minitool says anything silly about needing the paid version post back we'll look into command prompt commands to fix the m.2 up which the other link should of stated.

Hi,
Command prompt as admin
Same stuff wait for operations to complete
diskpart

list disk

select disk 1

clean

covert gpt

Only addition is how large the primary partition will be
Off the link before
Create a 52 GB (53,248 MB) partition for primary OS (this can be for games/ personal files to in your case for large m.2)
create partition primary size=53248

1000gb=1024000 you have more available but you can extend later using windows disk tools.

create partition primary size=1024000

Exit.
