A Stroll Through ViewSonic at CES: Delightful Sights for Gamers

ViewSonic had a delightful set of displays and projectors targeting the DIY PC crowd, particularly gamers, under its Elite brand of gaming monitors. The Elite XG272-2K isn't just another 27-inch planar WQHD (1440p) gaming monitor, it comes with a blistering-fast 400 Hz refresh rate, support for AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-SYNC (compatible); 1 ms response time, 400 nits brightness, DisplayHDR 400, and inputs that include HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, and USB-C (90 W power input + DP passthrough).

The Elite XG341C-2K is an Ultrawide (21:9) gaming monitor with a 1500R curvature, and a native resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels, with a maximum refresh-rate of 200 Hz and 1 ms response time. FreeSync Premium Pro, DisplayHDR 1400, and PureXP Motion Blur reduction. Inputs include HDMI 2.1, DP 1.4, USB-C. You also get an in-built KVM. It is priced at USD $1,500. The VX2722-4K-OLED is a 27-inch pure OLED monitor with 4K UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) resolution, with 100% Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 coverage, 540 cd/m² brightness, and HDR True Black 400. This monitor will be available from Q4-2023.



The VX16-OLED is a 15.6-inch portable monitor with 4K UHD native resolution, 100% DCI-P3 coverage, 1 ms response time, 60 Hz refresh-rate, and USB-C with power-delivery and DP passthrough. This one is bound for 2H-2023. Lastly, there's the X2-4K short-through home-projector with 4K UHD native resolution, 2,900 LED lumens illumination that has 30,000-hour lifespan, 0.69-0.83 STR, keystone and 4-corner adjustments, and integrated Harman Kardon speakers. Available in Q1-2023, this one is priced at $1,600.

Only 60Hz, saw it reported elsewhere. It's also not an LG panel, it's from JOLED in case anyone's wondering.

The wait continues for a high refresh rate 27 or 32" 4K monitor. That's what people want but it seems they want to sell us everything but that. My next monitor WILL be a 27/32" gaming OLED and NOT any of this in between crap.

I couldn't get into UWs. Initially, I was going to 32" 4k until I watched some videos about larger OLEDs. 90 PPI is still awesome for me and the screen space is insane.

For Photo editing and content creation 60hz not a big downside. I personally would have liked to see 1600p 27" monitor instead of 16x9 AR one.

And now that the conditions are there for 4k to become the main format for higher end desktop - both powerfull components and plenty of upscale solution - they decide to move full throttle with 1440p monitors

My current conspiracy theory is that they are expecting people to buy twice, one of these "new, shiny" (old, garbage) monitors because #marketing (or consumer actually needs a new monitor and can't wait), and then, at a time arbitarily decided by the industry (after they have milked LCD for all it's worth), they'll release what people really want and people will buy again.

But that's just me and my tin foil hat speaking...

For the 32in 4K people, how do you plan to push your 4K display at the high refresh rates you demand? Does everyone have a 4090 now?

I actually much rather prefer them come in at a resolution the mainstream can achieve.

I want 27'' 4k but anyway:

1. No 4090 needed, the 3070ti already did average 80fps in the tpu review, and that's at ultra settings (settings that make no sense). Most competitive games are also easy to run at 100+ fps.

2. Some of us like to play older games that are much easier to run

3. Upscalling tech helps bridge the gap a lot. Heck even a 2070 was able to do 4k with a "console like" 30 to 60 fps in a lot of stuff, with upscalling and some smart settings that can easily into more "real gamer" 100fps territory

4. Some of us do more than gaming and want the increased ppi for work and would also appreciate the desktop fluidity
