QNAP Systems, Inc., a leading computing, networking, and storage solutions innovator, today released the Half-width Rackmount QSW-M2106R-2S2T 10-port Layer 2 Web managed Switch. Supporting 2.5GbE, 10GbE and practical Layer 2 management functions, the QSW-M2106R-2S2T satisfies high-bandwidth requirements of servers and LAN infrastructure for SMBs. With its half-width design, the QSW-M2106R-2S2T is an ideal networking solution for server rooms in small businesses and organizations.

"Compared with the previous QSW-M2108R-2C, the QNAP QSW-M2106R-2S2T includes two 10GbE SFP+ and two 10GbE RJ45 ports," said Ricky Ho, Product Manager of QNAP, adding "the half-width rackmount design also allows IT administrator to make efficient space utilization of server racks and cabinets, fulfilling high-bandwidth applications at a cost-optimized price."

The QSW-M2106R-2S2T comes with two 10GbE SFP+ fiber ports, two 10GbE RJ45 ports and six 2.5GbE RJ45 ports (ten ports in total). The QSW-M2106R-2S2T is compatible with 10GbE and Multi-Gigabit NBASE-T technologies to support five speeds (10 Gbps, 5 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps and 100 Mbps) and enabling higher network speeds with existing Cat 5e cables for 2.5GbE RJ45 ports and 6a cables (or better) for 10GbE RJ45 ports. The QSW-M2106R-2S2T also provides Layer 2 management functions (such as LACP, VLAN, ACL and LLDP) via a user-friendly Web GUI for efficient network bandwidth controls and enhanced network security. With a half-width rackmount design, two QSW-M2106R-2S2T or one QSW-M2106R-2S2T with another half-width rackmount switch (such as QSW-M2108R-2C) can be installed in a 1U rack space for efficient physical space utilization and tidy cabling.

The QSW-M2106R-2S2T is one of the few web-managed switches that supports the Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) and is compliant with IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet and IEEE802.3x Flow Control in full-duplex mode. Users can deploy small/medium-scale networks that support expansion, redundancy, and loop prevention, while avoiding packet loss from unparalleled bandwidth, and reducing power consumption for low-speed and inactive connections. With its smart cooling system, the QSW-M2106R-2S2T ensures high-speed network performance while minimizing distracting background noise.

Key Specifications
QSW-M2106R-2S2T: 10 ports (2 x 10GbE SFP+ fiber, 2 x 10GbE RJ45 and 6 x 2.5GbE RJ45 ports); compliant with IEEE 802.3x and IEEE 802.3az; Auto Negotiation; the 10GE RJ45 ports of QSW-M2106R-2S2T are compatible with 10GbE and NBASE-T technologies to support five speeds (10 Gbps, 5 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps, and 100 Mbps).

[Editor's note: The QSW-M2106R-2S2T retails for around US$489]

come on, 10GBase-T switches should be cheaper by now

even if you manage to find it at that price it's still way to expensive

Well that explains the price.

I have a mikrotik router/switch with 4 SPF+ (10gbps) ports and it cost me 100 eur. If it had wifi, i could throw away my main router and keep the mikrotik only.

If you mean the CRS305-1G-4S+IN, that's just a switch, not a router. To the best of my knowledge mikrotik does not have a router with four SFP+ ports, only ones with 1 SFP+ and a bunch of gigabit/2.5G ports, or full rack units with 20+ ports.

I so wish they upgraded the hEX to have all 2.5G ports and kept a similar low price.

Uhm, you may want to check their website carefully again.

The CRS305-1G-4S+IN has a dual operation mode. It may work as full featured router OR managed switch.
As far as i remember there was a switch in the web admin of this device so i chose to use a switch, because thats what i needed.
As i said, it only lacks wifi to become a real router, but the OS is there, they even state this in the description
Operating SystemRouterOS / SwitchOS
Both OSes are already present on the device, its a matter of switching the operation mode.

surely inflation and component shortage did its job here as well. This router was ~100 eur when i bought it. Now its hard to get one and the only shop in my country that has it, sells for 200 eur.

You can always slap another AP and make a powerful home setup.

I checked it carefully enough that I looked at the test results, the CRS305-1G-4S+IN lists slower routing speed than even the hEX.

Arguably that's enough for most modern internet, but it's not exactly future proof; 2 gigabit internet is already available where I live.

Do you insist specifically on 4 SFP+ ports?
