AMD Software Adrenalin 23.1.2 for RX 7900 Series Third Straight Exclusive Driver, No New Driver for RX 6000 Series Since 48 Days

AMD today released the Adrenalin 23.1.2 drivers exclusively for the Radeon RX 7900 series, making it the third straight driver of the kind. There has been no new driver for older GPUs, including the RX 6000 series, including the 7-month old RX 6950 XT, since December 8, 2022 (48 days now), which means the overwhelming majority of AMD Radeon users don't yet have optimization for games such as Forspoken and Valhiem. The latest 23.1.2 drivers only work with the RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX. These introduce day-zero optimization for "Forspoken," and a handful background improvements for the Vulkan API. AMD fixed the "Delayed Write Failed" error noticed on Windows 11 22H2; less than expected performance with "SpaceEngine," and flickering issues noticed with "Emergency 4."

• Stuttering may be observed while playing Sea of Thieves.
• Corruption may be observed while playing Battlefield 4 with Post Process Quality settings set to high or ultra
• Some virtual reality games or apps may experience lower-than-expected performance.
• Maximum encode bitrate is limited to 100 Mbps for certain applications.

the known issues looks horrible. honestly, I think I am going to just keep my 6800 xt for now, its been rock solid for me... best to hold off on next gen these days, too many issues. I expected some, but not this many.

That is not true. AMD works harder than Nvidia at Software and the drivers are fine. I am totally enjoying my 7900XTX and do not miss my 6800XT even though that card is rock solid. The latest driver seems to have given the card a little bit more performance too.

No need to panic, I'm sure the next batch of universal drivers will show up soon. I imagine they're focusing on getting the new flagship under control first considering the rough launch.

Using number of updates to determine product quality is a silly idea.

Are you serious? Have you seen AMD's software package? I have a 3060 and felt surreal when I opened Geforce that it looked the exact same as it did when I had my GTS450......There were more features (I think) but it was still very much Windows XP.

AMD drivers are simply better now. No need for additional apps like Afterburner. And I don't need to kill the drivers process before launching control panel like I had to on Nvidia drivers for last few years lol (on both win 10 and 11 and many drivers versions). I'm not fan of either company, they both just want my money plus I've had many Nvidia gpu, Riva TNT being first. Just buying what's best for certain price range.

After owning both cards (first ATI) for a number of years (20+) and doing some GPU launch reviews as well, I can confidently say NVIDIA hands down has better drivers overall.

Driver quaitly is subjective to the quailty of your machine, Os; it's general stablity, or lack there of.

Last recent studies of Drivers & anaylisit of patches they're eqaul. They both have just as many problems on both sides of the fence.

I'm currently running 22.12.1 on my 6800 XT because I did have some issues with 23.1.1.

I've been running all these 3 7000 specific driver on the Vega iGPU of my 5600G. I haven't been able to install these on the RDNA2 based iGPU of my 6600u.

22.11 is the last WHQL for the 6000 series, AMD at least doesnt show 23.1 as an available update via their own driver package.

Take a look at the list of known issues, or puruse the AMD subreddit for the reports of terrible VR performance or broken OpenGL implementations, and honestly argue that AMD is keeping up with nvidia here, and remember it the next time Lisa Su justifies their next price hike as a "premium" brand with a "premium" product.

Especially given that some of the known issues with the 6000 series date back before the 7000 series launch. It makes sense that AMD wants to hammer out the 7000 series now, and not 2 years from now, but its a real bad look especially when they have stuff that needs fixed. AMD put over 5 billion into R+D last year, a new record, but it doesnt seem their software department is getting any love.

As a user of both AMD and Nvidia GPUs, both camps have problems with drivers. There are a lot of games and apps out there, which most people may not cover that extensively. So while many claimed that Nvidia or AMD drivers are better, they may not have experienced issues based on their usage. Having said that, I do agree somewhat that AMD drivers are usually a step behind Nvidia when it comes to stability, but I've experienced a fair share of Nvidia cards crashing due to driver issues as well. What I don't like about AMD is that they tend to release a product in a bad shape, i.e. if I look at both RDNA 2 and 3 launches, they both started with extremely bad idle and multi/ high refresh display power draw. Idle and non-gaming load power is basic, along with game stability. The latter I think they are doing a decent job, but the former usually takes time and not ideal.

22.11.2 here, with my 6700XT and I can tell I have nothing to worry about, Radeon Enhanced Sync still makes most of my games crash (GTA V/Online and Monster Hunter Rise for example), the FRTC still doesn't work on every games (if it works at all), I did use the feedback feature nVidia doesn't have (yeah you have to use an old school unreadable forum to give a feedback for nVidia) but they don't give a fuck it seems, like nVidia.

Btw I don't understand why you guys use so much energy fighting about fanboyism, imagine paying hundreds or thousands of dollars for crappy softwares (yeah, without any drivers, you just have a huge pile of crap connected to your motherboard) and yelling at people on websites instead of yelling at the software producers xD

There's so much mixed messaging from AMD reps/devs especially on reddit, some saying that new updates will address the multi-monitor draw, some saying that it's no more fixable on a fundamental level than with past RDNA generations. The usual tip of changing blanking in CRU doesn't even seem to work anymore in Win11, and changing via Radeon Software both fails to fix anything + 6-bit color depth bug for custom resolutions as Radeon Software has always been.

So far a pretty surefire way to avoid stuttering is simply not to do anything on the other monitor. You can have a Youtube video playing, but minimize it. Obviously this isn't a fix if what you're watching is not merely a podcast where you can do without video, but it's a pretty good bandaid fix for now. Certain things have a bigger impact than others, and Youtube is one of the worst, probably due to how high the Youtube playback power draw inherently is.

Disabling ULPS and MPO also worth a shot
