I'd do the 13600K if your CPU budget is $250-300. It makes the most sense for that price bracket. If going up a bit more, the 7800X3D will probably be $450-500. Of course, seeing as you see the 13600K at €359.90, thats not a great deal.

13600KF may be cheaper than the K model.

There's no other consideration unless you can afford 13900K....

And?

It's a last gen part, don't recommend it for someone looking for a new high end build with a lifetime of 10 years.
It'll be plenty considering he's still using a 3450. The 13500 "only" being alder lake means it'll still survive fine for 10+ years. It's still faster then 99% of PCs out there

Not everyone needs a 12' long epeen for their PC.

Irrelevant. He has the budget for the better part and has the use case for it too.

"eh, it's good enough" attitudes need to go away when someone is asking for part advice.

Why not just go to the store and buy a Dell with that attitude, 11th gen chips are on sale right now!

(The Dell is still better than his 3450 BTW).

IITC that was tested without the later added AVX-512 support - now the Zen 4 CPUs top the carts for PS4 emulation, for what it's worth.
Could you link to said charts? Tried to look for benchmark comparisons on YT to no avail. Best I got was RPCS3 cpu tier list (lists 7900x/7950x as S-tier, but 7900/7700/7600 nowhere to be found).

Edit: found a The last of us gameplay with a 7700x vs a 13700KF and performance in the most resource-heavy scene was quite similar (maybe a bit better with 7700x)

13700K is good just for the eight P cores.

Six is enough for now, but that may change in the next ten years.

That is what I referred to. It has them marked in green, which denotes little difference between SKUs in the same generation.

The whole heated debate is somewhat moot, after AMD's price cuts as a platform and DDR5 and additional promotional offers(in pack with games, or other offers). If a person finds a little more time to look around and look for some additional discounts from local shops, especially since he may have accumulated points or discount vouchers in them from previous shopping, he may even have collected some coupons cut from newspapers, or distributed by the company where he works. :)
Do you know why AMD is slashing their prices. Because it isn't selling.

Why go with an unlocked i7 when the less expensive locked i7 will do just as well.

First prices of full new PC or platform upgrade with this new prices was unacceptable because sum of expensive DDR5 + expensive motherboards were cost more than intel combination with DDR4. Today offers is totally different and acceptable.

What for? "...occasional gaming..."? Makes no sense.

Even if the 13600K is Alder, that's a 22 % higher performance than a 12600K.
That's a pretty decent performance jump regardless.
Dependson pricing and longevity, even if he's not up for a 7000 3D it may cause Intel to lower prices on 13th gen.
