Well had the 6950XT for a few weeks now had some hiccups here and there(beta testing can do that) But I am on the WHQL for the time being just to rule out my testing drivers. This baby runs real toasty compared to my previous 6700XT, of course it does. So I don't care about noise Thermal>Noise for me I mean I run 2K Noctuas Noise is not a concern if I'm gaming.
But I was not liking my temps even with a more aggressive fan curve(I mean my temps are still well within limits I just don't like seeing 90s on the hotspot)
So today I decided I would play with an undervolt. Now thermals can't say yet any perceptible difference and I still haven't had it long enough and done enough consistent testing to have my thermals "memorized" like I had with my 6700XT.
So I of course first ran the AMD Tuning "Auto" undervolt(that's a total joke it spit out 1197 same as did with my 6700XT)so -.3mV or is .03 anyway you get the point. So yeah we'll just try this ourselves then. I through a big one at it right away and of course it failed, not surprising(1150) So okay lets be reasonable so I tried 1175. So that runs fine and this is where it got good.
The first score I would has been about my average(I run TS on every driver for reference but obviously nobody sees my beta numbers) next to my last run with the 1175 undervolt vs 1200 stock.
I am rather impressed despite not actually solving my initial issue of improving my thermals I DID definitely make some decent gains(I ran a few tests that basically were going up 100 points each time)
I may see if I can get it even lower but I know at least 1150 is unreasonable anyway, but maybe 1165 could stick. The research shall continue....
