We have a number of platform clubs but nothing for the excellent X99? Weird. So here we are. And to start off, we have a very good video about it compared to a more modern AM4 Ryzen 3700X. The results were surprising.
Jeff keeps it real, keeps things objective and impartial, unlike other Youtubers(cough LTT)...

Hi,
Yeah liked gaming better on x99 than x299 now just use z490 which kills both in short order

Why you ask ?
Because x99 has a much more capable cache rather than the limited mesh of x299 of course z490 can do 5.0 cache but core at 5.3

Only advantage x299 had/ has is better memory integration but I didn't really test memory oc on x99 I was happy it did 3200c14 reliably
x299 was easy to do 4000c16 on 3600c16 kit but the limited mesh spoiled it gaming, never tried to use this kit on x99 though, would likely thrown up never know x99 do like b-die just hated hynix/ micro to likely it sure threw a fit on 3200c16 kit I had wouldn't even post

Many x99 sabertooths were killed by broadwell-e bios shooting vccio/ pch to 1.25v instead of haswell-e defaults of 1.05v just for activating xmp profiles :/

Think you might recognize the op here

Doesn't really remind me right of hand of anyone. Who is it?

Hi,
User name is different there
The beginning is the same @xkm1948

My two latest X99 endeavors turned out to be giant headaches. The 6950X CPU I was lent to try out was defective and an ASRock X99 Extreme6/3.1 I bought off Ebay last month looked perfect but had issues and got returned for a refund. Meanwhile my Asus X99 Deluxe/E5 2683 V4 and ASRock X99 Extreme4/3.1/ E5 2699 V4 keep soldiering on without missing a beat.

The damaged Asus Rampage V Edition 10 and Rampage V Extreme mobos I have sit gathering dust. Both need the CPU sockets replaced and the Edition 10 has missing pins in one of the front panel USB 3.0 headers. I got them for free so no money or time lost. While getting another MRI last Friday morning I debated what to do with them while in the MRI machine. I think I'm done spending money on hardware that doesn't have a warranty. My two Alder Lake builds are so fast running Win 11 Pro I'm spoiled by them plus all of the critical hardware has at least two years of warranties remaining (mobos & CPU's).

I still have a 5960X and a few 2011-3 Xeons stashed away so If by a miracle of chance I score a good X99 board dirt cheap (like $50 or less) somewhere I'll put another rig together but other than that it's current generation hardware for my computer addiction.

I have a 6900k. It does things and I absolutely hate the board I have for it. Dumb Gigabyte X99-SLI and the errors it has.

Have you tried one of the Machinist brand boards? They're not flashy, but their solid and get the job done. I have yet have one fail on me. They're a brand that seems to be trying to build a good reputation and I think they're doing a good job. Here's some examples;

X99 isn't exactly a platform I want to put more money into. I'll check to see if the registry edit for the Haswell-E OC block is on or not and try again.

Hi,
Out all the boards I've had my x99 sabertooth has been the toughest no pun intended

I've had it on a aio in a case/ air in a case after aio died/ custom loop in case and on a test bench hanging in my entertainment center/ back to air on test bench on a desktop and now hanging behind my tv in my entertainment center out of sight and still kicking it

After first built

Well after all seems like it's possible to turn on Resizable bar on X99......

As I mention before at least theoretically every bios that have option above 4g decoding should be able to turn on resizable bar .....this means maybe even on X79 this could potentially work....
Anyway if someone decide to "risk" and mod his bios on X99 platform I am eager to hear their experience from first hands.......

Oh, yeah that is weird. I didn't even consider that there was no existing club for X99 yet.

Sadly this theory doesn't play out on a large number of boards. When I was messing with Arc on various platforms I managed to get everything except ReBAR to tick over. I even tried some fairly modern workstation test sample motherboards that HAVE a dynamic BAR option, but apparently that isn't good enough.

Did you tried to mod the bios like the @miyocnst describes in that video?

I did as in the movie and works, I don't see big differences, for now, I don't see any problems with stability, so far

Well good, somewhere someone might know about my issue. Been running mod bios on asrock x99 mobo for months. Multicore enhancement, all core turbo.
All the sudden that setting is gone in my bios. Tried reflashing. Still gone. My stupid 2699 v3 is stuck at 2.3 now. I'm at the point where I want to throw back in
the 5820k that was ocing like stupid and just make it a gaming box. Anyone got any ideas why this is happening?

Yep, it looks like a mobo issue. I threw in a known working 5820k, and first thing to come up is triple channel... huh? Nothing wrong with any of the ram.
Time for a new mobo. Oh well.

Well...even on the new platform most of the time the difference is negligible 'tho in some games you can gain few frames here&there but there are also cases where certain games works better without the resizable bar....so.....

there are no PCI bus settings and subsequently above 4G in the VEINEDA X99 bios, probably hidden.

Well dam... residual settings left over, very odd. Reset my bios and the 5820k came right up with quad channel. Slowly ocing it now..
Kind of forgot how to oc haswell-e already after my run with a xeon....

Anyone got any good oc settings? Got my 5820k to 4.7 at 1.26v. But one core hitting 95c when stress testing. Going to try remounting it, but think this aio is
just not enough for the cpu. May end up swapping over my d14 from my x79 system.....

Good call for now. Took it down to 4.5 and 1.17, now 68 max temp.

Hi,
Sorry I'm gonna need a screen shots dury R23 showing vcore only using 1.17v at 4.5 please

Back in the day 5930k 4.5 at 1.35v was considered a darn good chip

Don't want to sign in to see what it states might of been 1.3v
