Retailers should be like Microcenter where they throw in a kit of 32 GB of G.Skill DDR5 memory practically for free. Normally $150 value. All I had to do was buy was an X-model Ryzen chip, in my case a 7700X, and they gave me the memory kit for one penny.

It's great, but given the current costs it's not very compelling at least for gaming as it's only within about 5% of the 5800x3d which you can use for a much lower cost even building from scratch.

I am running an AM5 built with 7600x as a place holder waiting for X3D drop in....

It's true, if they weren't giving the DDR5 memory kit away for free, I too would've gotten the 5800X3D instead but since I got the memory for free, it really was a no brainer.

I bought a RyZen 7950X processor (after the price reduction) with an ASRock B650E PG Riptide WiFi motherboard and G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5 6000 kit (2x16GB) from Microcenter. The RAM was 100% free with the bundle and IIRC there was a combo deal of ~$50 off the motherboard. IIRC the motherbard was ~$230 before the ~$50 off.

Why do they even keep putting a chipset in the most budget segment of motherboards, when the CPU I/O chip has almost everything you need?

A very good question indeed. Looking at the IO die itself:

The processor can supply up to 28 lanes of PCIe 5.0 bandwidth, though motherboards with non-"Extreme" chipsets will still use PCIe 4.0 for the GPU slot. There's a new integrated GPU, a first for non-APU Ryzen processors. The IOD also includes its own USB controller with support for up to four 10Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2, included partly to enable DisplayPort-over-USB-C connections to the integrated GPU and the built-in USB flashback functionality.

We have 28 PCIE lanes, easily enough without a chipset even on higher end boards. Just route all of them to slots and nvmes instead of branching some off for chipset use. Don't have any Sata ports on the low end board since no chipset for that, but should be fine with the pair of nvme slots. Low end builds aren't going to have more than 1-2 drives and nvme is a cheap form factor now, easier to find than new Sata ssds.
Also has four 10gb USB 32. gen 2 lanes, which is about fine for a low end board. Route 3 of them to USB-A and a single USB-C. Anyone buying a super low end board probably only has 3 devices at most anyway (kb, mouse, usb headset)

So ya, save the cost and sell the lowest end boards as "chipset-less". Keep the requirement of PCIE 4 so that the boards dont have to use higher quality traces and PCIE re-timers to also keep things cheaper.

There has little more info about a620. Much less number of modern USB ports. Up to 2 USB 3.2 but 2X1(10Gb/s) and few USB...2.0 this immortal version that should have been laid to rest half a dozen years ago.

Quite right. The receipt list the G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5 6000 kit as being 0.01 or a penny. The sticker on the G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5 6000 kit was for ~$269.99. So according to Microcenter I saved ~$269.98 not ~$269.99,….

Current going price for the G.Skill Flare X5 DDR5 6000 kit:

eBay - ~$128.00
Microcenter - ~$149.99
Newegg - ~$162.14

DDR5 has room for improvement with respect to DDR4 pricing but it is getting better.
