Does anyone know if Uncharted 4 and the other Uncharted game on PC take advantage x3d cache? I know in God of War it was only like an 8 fps gain over 5600x at 1440p... so just curious if all Playstation ports don't use the x3d cache or is just God of War not using it?

A question for amd gigabyte boards. I have all old 3pin voltage fans, which used to ramp up and down all over all the time, until I flattened the curve as per Mussels recommendation.

Just curious, if PWM fans would be less susceptible to this or not?

Nothing about PWM fans would make them react any differently......problem is still Gigabyte's bad hysteresis, so flat curve is the only solution.

I hate Gigabyte BIOS fan control. Doesn't save/restore properly with BIOS profiles like MSI, and can't be edited as numbers like Asus.

Can confirm, I had this experience as well just recently going from an AM5 Gigabyte board to MSI.

MSI has been rock solid for me in everything.

I have another question. So 5700x is new to me and im adjusting from a 1700. BIOS at defaults.

In the bios
cpu @ 0.975V, 35C and 3.4GHz (readings at stock defaults)

windows 2d desktop nothing open and idling
cpuz
3.6GHz sometimes bounces to 4.2GHz
volts all over
temp, probably over 50C cause fan ramps up
task manager 0% cpu

boot back into bios and can watch cpu temp come down

That normal for 5k series ryzen?

Like damn, I know 200 pages of thread is a lot to go through, but this "idle" behaviour has been normal for the past 3.5 years......starting to sound like a broken record at this point. Every single Ryzen CPU since then has behaved like this.

Only monitoring softwares worth anything at all are Ryzen Master and HWInfo. Everything else is worthless if you're trying to find out what your Vermeer CPU is doing at idle. Only thing CPU-Z can kind of do correctly is report idle Vcore sometimes, but Ryzen Master does that better anyway.

The spikes is because of CPPC2 instantaneous response to load. There is neither CPPC nor load in the BIOS.

Even on Gigabyte BIOS, if it's spiking then your fan curve needs work. Either the ramp needs to be placed somewhere more suitable, or your curve isn't flat enough. Whenever I'm using A14s I always run a completely flat line at about 1100rpm all the way up to 85C.

That, or live with the fan speed fluctuations.

Sorry for beating the horse. If opening firefox causes the cpu to spike to 55C on a noctua cooler is normal, then cest la vie.

It's life. Try 60+ on a C14S. On 5900X I'd still get spikes to about 50C with water, under the Optimus block. Of course, CPU was still only at 55C at 140W, but I digress

The higher the boost, the less capable the cooler, the more pronounced the spike. Still, diminishing returns with larger cooler, not much can be done.

Also got a 5700X but have a Deepcool AK620 and opened Brave to hit 57C! I do have PBO enabled though.

Point of corecycler is to test curve optimizer, but you aren't using curve optimizer

There are some rare cases of CPUs unstable at stock and needing RMA, but if you don't have any existing suspicions of such then you're wasting your time

That's the thing, I WANT to use the optimiser, but I'm confused as to what to set it as. Also the TDP and so on are just a bit complex for my tiny brain, lol.

Then just enable PBO but advanced so that you can manually set the limits to stock (76/60/90). And set boost override to +200 to open up that extra boost.

Curve optimizer should be set to whatever is stable for your CPU. You'll have to figure that out. Set all the cores to the same value and start reducing, until individual cores start falling off.

Corecycler with the config as is, is a decent quick test for stability while you are still exploring the limits of your CPU.

So 76 at the top, 60 for TDC and 90 for EDC?

Just go into the BIOS.........you're not forced to use PBO2 Tuner like us 5800X3D owners. Plus you have the full featured BIOS on the MAX board, all PBO controls should just be under the main OC menu with all the usual other CPU tweaks.

Yes, 76/60/90 is for PPT/TDC/EDC.

Trying it now... Thanks for your help and patience!

I tried the initial settings and my R23 score went down to 12.900. So now I've put the wattage up to 130 (It was hitting 150's unrestrained) but now my all core speed is only 4000-4050. Which setting will make that rise please? This is my trouble, I hate guessing and I'm nowhere near rich enough to replace bits if I kill it. My single core score has risen about 30 points @4850 though.

How much score exactly ST though? Real 4850 no clock stretching should be close to or at 1600. Of course the initial settings would result in a lower MT score, you were running PBO before.

If you only pulled up PPT then no it's not going to make a difference, you're still held back by at least one of the other two. If you want to go all out MT then just punch in the stock 105W settings for now, then adjust from there - 142/95/140.

I did the single thread test in CPU-Z, for times sake. Usually it gets 637 and now got 667. Yeah I was expecting a drop, but again this is all new to me.

I'm going to input those figures now and see what happens. Also, I can use PBO2 to do the optimising, yes? I deleted Ryzen Master when it kept failing to launch.

Have you set any CO? Or is that just from +200? If latter then clearly Core 0 can do a fair bit more than the stock Fmax of 4650 allows. I think my 5700G at ~4780 is about 650, though performance is generally a bit lower on Cezanne parts.

No, YOU do the optimizing manually. Maybe something like hydra also has auto CO optimization, but the proper way to do it is hands on. You use Ryzen Master for monitoring idle, not for CO. The RM built-in auto test spits out nonsensical recommendations.

Haven't touched CO yet and with the numbers you provided bar the watts, which I left @ 130, it's now hitting 15,300 in R23 which is close to my max of 15,700. Got 655 in CPU-Z now but multi was up nearly a 1000! It's also dropped 10C in R23, which is amazing!

Yeah, I meant that I just didn't want to download Ryzen Master with it being so unreliable for me, using PBO2 instead of RM. I don't even know what hydra is, lol. Yes RM gave me a mad auto tune that had fatal execution errors.

It's under the "AMD" settings as CPCC, or something like that
I've seen it on a few boards with the modern AGESAS, even on my x370

Then how come that the coolest core is also on that die ? I've watched a gamer nexus review and they found the same huge deltas between cores.
It's either the cooler contacting poorly there or the solder from the CPU to the heatspreader is poor there
Remember the dies are offset, the cores arent in the center - this is why i lapped my 5800x, to even those things out.

So yesterday I dropped my X3D into my kids system thinking it would be a solid bump for him, coming from a 5600X.. he didn’t even notice lol.. so I was a bit chuffed and I gave him back his 5600X today lol :D

Still doesn’t notice

To be fair, you need a pretty high end setup to notice most of it - and obviously, the 5600x isn't a slouch at all with anything less a 4090

Oh AMD have been updating their website adding recommended RAM setups to all the CPU pages, and i adore them for fixing this

This has helped me so much with explaining to people that no, your Zen+ APU can't run DDR4 4400 just because the motherboard supports it under "OC", and yes thats why you're having blackscreens/crashes/problems

Not all CPU's have it listed, the 5800x just says "upto 3200" for example while the 5800x3D and 3400g have it

Honestly.. out of my 3 chips my 5600X is probably still my favorite.
the 5700x system i helped build is still right up there for me, that thing ran on AA batteries and could almost be passively cooled (Definitely could for pure gaming)

A question for amd gigabyte boards. I have all old 3pin voltage fans, which used to ramp up and down all over all the time, until I flattened the curve as per Mussels recommendation.

Just curious, if PWM fans would be less susceptible to this or not?
PWM fans still need curve adjustments, the key is that they're less prone to weird noises at different settings, since its 12V all the time (just pulsing) so they dont have the need to start at 100% jet engine speed and slow down, for example
So you can simplify it that 12V PWM fans often have a broader min-max RPM range and less noise issues at lower settings, but as always the fans themselves dictate a lot of that anyway
(A 140mm fan might not start at 6V on a 3 pin header, but would run fine at 50% on PWM - same RPM, but no issues)

It sounds familiar, but I don't remember seeing it on my MSi B650. I'll have a look.

Isn't there a search box in MSI BIOS? top right corner.

I gave up trying to rifle through AMD OC and AMD CBS after MSI moved AMD OC in its entirety.

I haven't seen that either, to be fair. Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough.
