Hi,
Yep started that crap with z490 I believe
Only good thing is they at least added a bios option to turn it off although hidden in tools instead of the bios default opening page where it could be seen without digging.

700$ and still lacks features.

Asus (and AM5 tbh) at its finest.

This is why I held off on AM5 and got the ProArt Z790 Creator w/ 13600K. $170 cheaper board and it has a 10Gbe LAN. I'll probably regret it in a couple years when I could drop in an 8800X3D chip as an upgrade, but meh.

*edit*
I got the Asus Z790 Creator board. Loving the 60W PD Front USB btw.

I dont know why someone would buy a board like this. Every X670(E) is more than capable to even run the 7950X, just take the cheapest board with features you really need.

Wil you though? The 13600k will be more then enough for gaming/home productivity for the next 10 years.

Because back int he days of sandy bridge/FX there was a real difference in quality between the most expensive boards and the midrange boards.

Same reason people still think the "K" SKUs of cpu are worth the premium because 10 years ago you could OC and get a ton of extra performance.

$700 and no 10GbE is an absolute insult to the buyer.

This board would have been $299 4-5 years ago. It belongs in a $349-$399 segment today with all the inflation and fu£kery taken into account.
The AMD X470 Hero was $300. While Intel Z490 was $400 in 2019/2020 Accounting for basically a 25% inflation in the Tech market that would be $375 / $500 today. Now add in new tariffs, supply and demand chains issues post covid and the new stuff included like USB4, DDR5, PCIE5 and a bunch of M.2 sockets. $600 would be more or less expected for this class of product now.

I dont know why someone would buy a board like this. Every X670(E) is more than capable to even run the 7950X, just take the cheapest board with features you really need.
I went with this board for many reasons, but this was only 1 of 2 boards that had the features I needed for my pc build that was under $700. Did I want to spend to more on my motherboard than I did on my 7950X? Of course not but unfortunately there were not any cheaper options that offered what I needed. On top of that, I plan on using this motherboard for as long as it's supported and wanted a motherboard that I could trust to last me a solid 4 years. I had bought mediocre grade motherboards in the past and got mediocre performance and longevity.

As far as the features though, I needed to be able to have 8 total USB A ports on the back with 3 USB C ports as well. I also wanted USB 4 as I figured that an accessory that I'll use within the next 2 years will need support. I am utilizing all 8 USB A spots on the back of my pc and 2 of the USB C spots, which leaves me the two USB 4 available still. I'm even utilizing 2 of the 3 USB spots on the front of my case without any issues. Not only do I use them on a daily basis all at one time, but the motherboard has had no issue powering all the devices and running them properly. It's been a dream come true as I thought powering and using so many USB devices at once would cause issues.

I also needed a board with 4+ nvme M.2 SSD spots on the board. Also this was one of very few 7000 series mobos in general that supported any kind of custom water loops which I have been planning on building. Would have already built one but the 4090 and 7950X are incredibly efficient without the custom loop. The board also has all high end parts as far as vrm/power stages/controllers and I wanted a board that I felt comfortable powering my system and lasting for the next 4ish years. Plus with it being a new platform with AM5, I understand the issues newer platforms can have and I wanted a board that gave codes, had easy overclocking and troubleshooting tools, bios flashback, reset and flex key buttons, etc. for if and when issues arise.

So far I have had the 7950X and this motherboard since launch day and it has been nothing short of incredible. On top of it having premium parts and all the features I needed for my system, the motherboard IMO looks the best out of any available. This is my first time buying a premium board and I had really high expectations. Not only has this board far exceeded those expectations but I could not be happier with its performance, reliability and ease of use thus far (knock on wood). Would I suggest everyone to buy this board? Heck no, this is an enthusiasts level board with so many fantastic features that make life much easier and convenient. But if your needs are similar to mine, this board has been worth every dollar and then some.

This makes me miss my X370 Crosshair VI Hero  Had everything but the kitchen sink on it, wasn't covered in ginormous heatsinks or tacky dot matrix things. Neither was the VII Hero, or the VIII.

I will give ASUS credit for keeping the X670E Hero in thee ATX form factor though. Shows that it CAN be done, but the other board makers don't want to.

Also, I'm wondering if ASUS will make an X670 (non E) version of this board that will maybe be a little cheaper?

That would be the STRIX line of motherboards. They are good as well, but with everything compromises happen. What will never change is the CPU providing 24 PCIE Gen 5 lanes. Even though this comes from the CPU, AMD makes it exclusive to the (E) motherboards. This makes it easier for consumers to know which has what. Want Gen 5, thats any chipset with a E.

fair enough, if i would shop for a board i'd pick a board with pcie 5 x16 and x4 lanes, atleast 8 usb type a ports, 1 usb c header for my case, vrm that can handle the highest end cpu's, post code, bios flashback and without gimmicks like lcds or rgb.

My Fractal R6 seems to be working just fine with it. Mostly my phone. My kid has used it to tether his Oculus, which has greatly reduced the fighting over play time w/ siblings. I haven't tried it yet, but I was hoping it would work well w/ my wife's laptop which has a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port. Can help keep the laptop charged while moving files or just having it on the desk to duel-wield PC's. :rockout:

Mine came with a physical printed manual.
Ohh? When did you buy it, recently?

The package contents says "User Guide", but not a manual. I don't for that one because that can be manual, quick start guide or just a piece of paper.

Anyone else get a user manual with the motherboard? @farmertrue

The Asus ProArt B660 and Z790 boards have printed manuals? Did you pull the cardboard insert out of the box? It's tucked underneath.

Are you asking if those have printed manuals? IDK... but the X670E Hero I have 100% did not come with a manual. In fact a lot of motherboards now don't. it's becoming rare.

I was specifically asking about the X670E HERO. Guide Start guides are not the same thing FYI.

I'm still rocking my CH6 with a 3600, and I was keen to stay on the crosshair until I realised it was going to cost me more than the rest of the system (without vid card) which is just sad.

I do wish they did a cheaper board with 10gig on it.

Mine had a printed user manual and also Intel WIFI/BT instead of Mediatek.

Edit: Actually the download section at ASUS only contains drivers for the Intel module.

Sorry, the ? was more of a confused statement. I have yet to buy a mainboard (3 MSI Z690's, 1 Asus B660, 1 Asus Z790) in the last year that hasn't had the typical manual. It came in handy on the Asus boards, because I looked VERY closely at it, as they have their text labels printed wrong on the CPU Fan/Optional headers, while it's marked correctly in the manuals. I kept plugging it in the wrong port over and over whilst diagnosing my Win11 SSD/12th gen/13th gen/TPM issues.

Apologies, I have so many motherboards that overlap. This one might actually be Intel WiFi. I didnt show a picture this time. Will update soon once I confirm what I actually have.

I guess I will also update saying you may get a physical manual. Maybe they figured it was a bad idea after the first batch lol.

Edit 1: Changed WiFi to Initel and added photo.
Edit 2: Still looking into physical manual. Of all the written reviews I found, only 3 show the accessories and one doesn't have it either. Of the videos, two actually shows the accessories. It seems like the early batch didn't have it. - Review updated to reflex this information.

You can easily check it from the sticker on on the backplate. Sadly the photo of that in the review is too low resolution to decipher it.

I would be surprised if they changed it, without first adding the Mediatek downloads.

It seems like the early batch didn't have it.
Seems unlikely, mine is very early (09/22).

@emissary42 I took it apart anyways. Learned a long time ago not to trust any stickers or printed information. Mine is also a early batch too. Like I said, I've found a few that don't have a manual and some that do. I like to think the person who feeds the machine wasn't paying attention that day.
