...just noticed there is a new version of BIOS for the X570 Impact.

ROG CROSSHAIR VIII IMPACT BIOS 4304

Version 4304
20.64 MB 2022/12/28
"- Update AGESA version to ComboV2PI 1208.
- Improve security
- Improve system stability and performance
- Update Raid UEFI Driver

Should I update? I have the 4201 (the previous one) installed.

4303 has been out for a while, I had it while it was a beta BIOS downloadable off a forum thread.

I don't use 4201 as it's 1207 and slaughters my all core clocks.

iirc 4303 reintroduces PBO and CO controls for 5800X3D. I have a modded 4006 BIOS so it was something I already had.

4303 performance is okay, but requires a lot of work. Runs hot out of the box and the V-F curve is all messed up, I think I had to run a hefty -0.075V offset to get back to 15k R23.

Still ran like 3 degrees hotter after all that. 4006 still runs cooler and faster. But if you're worried about the vulnerability or need fTPM, then go for it.

Upgrading to or downgrading from 4303 might take some time as iirc it includes AURA RGB firmware update that takes place during the first reboot after, every time.

I’m a little jelly you guys are on 1208. B550 sucks sometimes :(

If it's not out yet, it might still be in the form of a beta BIOS somewhere.

Yeah, looked at amazon.ca.... prices are better. Guess I'll set up an account. For now I'm going to try to flush this swiftech thing out with vinegar.
It's refillable and I'm sure it's never been cleaned....

Personally, I only bother with BIOS updates when there are some issues to fix, or new features that I want to try. Updating only for its own sake (and then re-applying all your settings) is pointless hassle, imo.

Some of my best scores turned into hwbot were done on beta bios that was later removed :(

Very difficult to replicate :D

I think I'm on 1.2.0.5, and seriously thinking to roll back to 1.2.0.0, just for the sake of 5000 series support (as I plan to upgrade to 5700X). Otherwise I would go even older. I'm saying that because I had much better OC stability with the factory BIOS, can't remember which one it was. The board was bought 2018, so around 1.0.0.0 I guess. I think I even had FCLK of 1900MHz stable. The only thing that prevents me from doing it right now is the hassle of typing in all those RAM settings from the @1usmus Ryzen calculator. A life saver for people that don't know shit about memory overclocking & tuning.

1203B and 1203C were the peak of performance for regular 5000 CPUs on Windows 10 (not Vermeer-X or Cezanne).

If 5800X3D worked properly on it and I was still on Win10, I'd go back.

4408 here on x570-F, the update is SO last year

Still on 1.2.0.7 - looking forward to 0.8
(0.7 lowered boost perf a little, but temps went right down too)

Strange, isn't it? Both X570 boards but 2 new BIOSes later and the -F is still on...1207?

I think I ran it through SMU checker at the time, and the 4303 BIOS does indeed have new SMU.

Not a big deal probably. 1180 was initial boot support, 1200 was already a later release.

Might be worth fishing for some 1203 beta BIOSes on the internet. Otherwise, I don't think 1206 should be much of a performance downgrade either.

I actually wondered if the server coldplate on the Noctua TR4/Xeon coolers would perform better on mainstream platforms, if someone could convert them somehow. The coldplate is massive. There's a Xeon cooler (regrettably no AMD equivalent yet) with two A12x25s that looks like a beast.

There's too many talk about 1.2.0.3 and later AGESA causing memory instability (Micron E among others) for 3000 series, which I've experienced right after flashing 1.2.0.5. 5700X is still a 2nd rabbit.

I honestly would imagine the materials used would be a slightly higher grade for server side stuff..

There's too many talk about 1.2.0.3 and later AGESA causing memory instability (Micron E among others) for 3000 series, which I've experienced right after flashing 1.2.0.5. 5700X is still a 2nd rabbit.

I actually wondered if the server coldplate on the Noctua TR4/Xeon coolers would perform better on mainstream platforms, if someone could convert them somehow. The coldplate is massive. There's a Xeon cooler (regrettably no AMD equivalent yet) with two A12x25s that looks like a beast.
some of alphacools TR/HEDT waterblocks have generic mainstream compatibility and i assume simply the sheer mass of copper would help cooling, especially spreading out smaller spikes

I like the one "Buy shit that's in spec and supported for your build, or pay the price in troubleshooting"

(And no i dont mean rely on approved memory from the QVL list, but at least research the ram speeds and dont slap 128GB of DDR4 3600 onto a 3900x like one of my friends did and then get pissy it crashes constantly with XMP on)

Yep okay... stupid aio pump failed today, so I signed up to amazon and bought this today:

Comes with 2 fans... should be decent....
Sorry to heat that. :( If my AIO fails, I'll probably buy another be quiet! AIO, or consider one of their high-end air coolers (although I don't like the idea of dragging my motherboard down with excess weight).

I know Noctua is good, too, but there's no way I'm gonna put up with something beige and brown in my PC.

The evil blue corp and evil green corp seem much less afflicted, they must be building a city that isn't Rome ;)

I still think there's a little bit of fun to be had with experimenting and testing with AGESA in spite of how much I bitch and moan about the terrible job AMD does every generation. Though, I don't think any of my friends share that mindset, and I'm slowly getting tired of it too.

But Radeon is where I draw the line. No fun anymore.

I think the "evil blue and green corps" ship with default settings that just work, while AMD requires experimentation to get it right. You might see it as fun, or pointless trouble, depending on your mindset. :)

With that said, I'm very positively surprised about my RDNA 2 graphics cards that just work without changing anything. Although, my 6750 XT runs as hot as the seven depths of hell, but still...

AMD was fun, back to Intel for me next round
I'd wait to see what they have to offer next round. They might increase the default TDP to 500 W, who knows. ;)
