My irl friend said she hasn't been as immersed in a world this much since Witcher 3 launch day, and she never even read Harry Potter. I am going to wait for a half price sale personally (I always do), but it is nice to hear I have something to look forward to. :toast:

Main thing I tell people about games, is to always ask yourself, are you having fun or a good experience? If the answer is yes, keep enjoying yourself in moderation, if no, then you need to move on and find a different hobby. So many people don't realize variety is the spice of life.

It's true about basically everything in life (except for work, maybe): if you're not enjoying yourself, what's the point? :) Sure, there's hardships and struggle along the way, but the ultimate goal is always some sort of improvement on the present situation.

As for Hogwarts Legacy: I'm very tempted to buy the game - I haven't been this tempted in a long time, but I never pay full price, either. The last game I did pay full price for was The Witcher 3.

I'm feeling exactly the same way about Hogwarts Legacy. I haven't felt so compelled to play a game in years. I'm not at all into modern AAA titles. In fact, only a handful of recent releases have managed to arouse my interest lately. This game, OTOH, gives me very positive vibes.

But I also go by the "no pre-orders, no day one purchases" principle. I will definitely pick up Hogwarts Legacy during sales.

I'm playing this now. Have had zero stutter. Everything cranked up RT included using dlss quality and frame generation and it's locked at 144fps at 1440p with an RTX 4080. It's butter smooth and surprisingly a really good game. I've never read any Harry Potter books or seen the movies but I'm in to open world games so I decided to give it a go. Glad I did

I wonder, how come it manages 30 fps with RT on PS5 and on PC with probably more details is at 11 FPS on 6700 xt, a gpu a bit more powerful than what PS5 has.
PC games these days should have have release/launch day and one year later playable date after many patches, drivers and bug fixes.
That is beacase PS5 is not useing Ultra RT. The 6700XT is geting 11 FPS with RT on Ultra, with RT on low the performacne quadruples.

People seem to keep waiting for the day when the 10GB 3080 chokes because of VRAM, but that day is yet to come :p
It's breaking some hearts around here that it's not crippling this card yet, oh no! those poor poeple that never bought one, how will they cope.

I can't believe how many times @fevgatos has had to explain the 17% RT hit being a skewed average of a small selection of games, many of which favour AMD by showing such a light implementation, and that most games with good, desirable RT that penalty is a lot higher. Yet more simple concepts lost on some of the more daft among us.

edit: turns out he was running with fg dlss3 enabled on intel without knowing it. Still something looks off about zen perf.
A lot of reviewers have been tripped up by these features turning themselves on despite the options being greyed out - and end users are having a game that looks like ass despite showing max settings because of it.

Oh this seems to be one of the first games that "requires" 32GB of RAM and 10GB+ of VRAM at high and above settings, even having slow system RAM and 32GB seems to be an issue - it streams a LOT of data, probably bloody uncompressed

(Directstorage, wherefore art thou)

Indeed, one of the best games I've played in a long time
I get the feeling you're biased towards it, HARRY.

In my tests, the game still requires 32 GB RAM even at low settings;

I also noticed zen/zen+/zen 2 products also have horrendous frametime spikes in the town Hogsmeade. I noticed i5 8400 is quite smooth here;

i5 8400 + gtx 1060 + 16 gb + medium settings + hogsmeade = smooth

ryzen 2600 + 3060ti + 32 gb + medium settings + hogsmeade = stutter fest

similar story with the 3600,

Clearly, zen/zen 2 products are failing in this region for some reason. I don't know why.

Actually I am rather biased against it .. but professional enough to not let it show .. I've never managed to watch a single of the movies because they don't appeal to me at all, I tried multiple times. Didn't have time to read the books yet, not sure if worth my time. The game is still awesome, just ignore all the HP stuff and enjoy the RPG world.

I upgraded my work PC to RTX 4080, and have been playing with FG on for the last few hours and it's just absolutely stunning. No issues or anything, just double the FPS. I am constantly hoping to find issues to report, but nothing

hi W1zz, you probably shouldn't waste your time reading the books, I think you would get much more enjoyment out of something like Hail Mary by Andy Weir which I recommended to you before. You just need to understand the context of why Harry Potter was so popular to begin with, it came out right before flip phones were hugely popular and normal, so it was still able to generate hype through traditional media. As a kid it was one of the most magical experiences ever... literally so many people around the world lining up for midnight release launches of the books, it wasn't just about the books, it was about the energy of it all, other people will never experience anything like it, you had to be in that right age range when the books first came out (and smartphones didn't exist, people have too much variety -algorithms that compete for their time- now to ever have the whole world focused on a single thing) to where it could truly capture your imagination.

I feel bad for kids nowadays, all they do is play Minecraft, and they never learn any vocabulary expansion. I remember in high school being told I was a great writer, it was largely because of all the text I read in games, books I read, and playing Magic the Gathering (word association with the pictures on the cards) that expanded and developed my vocabulary. That in turn allowed me to think more deeply about things.

Well said.

I remember when Star Wars, Star Trek, Back to the Future and Harry Potter were the only things entertainment. Later came Lord of the Rings, and that was it. I didn't have daily access to the internet, so books, VHS tapes and then later, Video CDs and DVDs were my only access to these things. As for games, I had Half-Life, Doom, Need for Speed 2 and 3, and a few other old classics on CD. The so-called "entertainment industry" didn't exist, at least not for me, and that was fine. I could immerse myself in one movie or game again and again, and when I got bored, I could leave the house to play with my friends (or alone) outside.

Man, it was such a different (and fun) time to be a child! :(

It's still on my shopping list, as soon as I feel I might have time to read a book I'll order it

I have only played about 2 hours so far, but I am loving the game and have been happy with my systems performance thus far. 1440p Ultra settings w/ Motion Blur Off and no RT, averaging 140 fps w/ my 6950 XT. I have not tried RT with it yet though. Paired w/ a 5800X3D and 32GB DDR4.

Guess I should try turning it on and turning it back off and see if that changes my frame rates.
