Lol the game run great on new hardware (with FG) and the sale numbers are extraordinary, why should optimizations take priority when dev resources should be spent on making sure there are no game breaking bugs first.
Don't like upscaling? well you can play old games i guess

So you're recommending the EA way of marketing? "Don't like the performance of our game? Don't buy it!". I wonder if there are more people with new hardware rather than older hardware. Obviously there's no need to optimize the game so that the highest number of people could play it.

Most game devs are being worked to the bone these days, so obviously game companies have finite time and human resources and must prioritizing tasks appropriately.

Sure it sucks to have low FPS on older hardwares, but to have game breaking bugs are rather worse, so game company are relying on smart upscalers these days to cut back on resources wasted on optimizations and focus those resources elsewhere.

I'm at Hogsmeade now and the game run butter smooth for me

Right, gotta manage those resources, so that investors and bosses can be millionaires.

It's like waiters being paid minimum wage and customers are supposed to tip 20%, because it's food!

But if people just accept that's how the world works, then it's never going to change.

Lol, just buy another game if bad optimization is off putting to you, gamers sure don't mind about Hogwarts and Elden Ring being poorly optimized at all

The money that they save by not optimizing the game is money that they lose on customers who can't play the game because they don't own high-end hardware. It is a short-sighted view in my opinion.

Is 57 fps is a hard cap of some sort ?!
Judging by the previous performance analysis, it is not, unless you turned it on in the game or the GPU driver.

I like how there's not performance difference between the quality modes, lol.
Not only between quality modes, but also across implementations. Something is seriously broken in there.

UE 5 is already a thing

Indeed

but what game except Fortnite use it currently? i think the first game will get released this year at least. But there will be still some UE4 game to be released for some time as they started on this platform and will finish on it.

It take years to make AAA games so.

UE5 is one Next Gen engine, but we need more than that. But it's true that UE4 was becoming bloated and some other engine like Decima were able to deliver more visual quality with less power.

I mean, its also avalance software. Remember how they made Just Cause 3 so heavy that you can literally complete the tutorial mission in less then 1/2 the time on PC simply because it can run at more then 15 FPS? They've really lost their mojo since just cause 2 (and TBF, even that game was a bit of a mess at launch).

It's also true that avalanche is not utilizing it properly. UE4 supports multithreading and plenty of games take full advantage of 6 core CPUs with said engine. HP:L seems almost entirely single thread bound, which frankly shouldnt be happening in a game this big.

The Just Cause series are developed by Avalanche Studios. Hogwarts Legacy was made by Avalanche Software. They're not the same company.

Watching my wife play it now and I don't see any difference after the patch, but it's possible that she isn't far enough in the game for what's been fixed. I can't stand harry potter so this is difficult for me to watch, but it really does look like a good game and she freaking loves it. I could only imagine what it will look like with next gen cards and RT cranked up.

Dude I watched her play Midnight Suns for the last 2 months and that was actually enjoyable. She's the biggest gamer in the house so in order for me to upgrade my rig, I have to upgrade hers and get her hand-me-downs. But it's cool. It works for us.

That's cool! I've got a (fairly) gaming capable PC in every room of our apartment and she still won't play.

Coudn't be a new denuvo?
All that single thread... I mean they are able to use several threads/cores on console zens but not on PC?
People reports low CPU usage, low GPU usage at the same time, how can one be bottlenecking the other? High CPU usage on which scenario? Exactly at the same spot of the game, you can go from 30 to 120 just by turning the camera.

You're bound to have low overall CPU usage on high core count CPUs if the game only uses a few threads at a time.

What you need to look at is the usage of individual cores. You might see that two or three are pegged at 100% while the rest are basically idle.

Good comparison - I've been trying out FSR 2 vs 4k Native with TAA and honestly the FSR images look very slightly better (thanks to the TAA smear ruining texture details). Performance for me has been absolutely fine - in native 4K I've been getting ~50 fps outdoors on my OC'd 6900XT (XTXH) and about 80 fps outdoors on FSR. Hitting 120+ indoors with FSR and this game may well have convinced me FSR can provide better quality images if the only AA is TAA. I've not tried the raytracing options yet as it requires a game restart making it hard for me to compare the visuals easily.

I do notice flickering on stairs in extreme distances, but oddly enough I noticed it both with FSR and 4k native with TAA. I just wish they would release a FSR AA mode which renders at the native resolution and uses the upscaling algorithm just to apply AA (like Nvidia's DLSAA).

I just got a copy from IG. My 5900x is "OCed" to 4.5 all cores (most of what I do uses all cores). It seems It uses 6/7 cores at most, no HT, none close to 100% or even 50%.
The GPU I'm using now a 3090 (2.1Ghz) works at 50%-60% at most. Very odd.
On the other hand the game seem to use 15GB of RAM and another 7-8GB on the GPU's RAM.
The game is "unplayable" in the sense that QHD+DLSS-Quality (render is <FHD like 1700 by something) all ultra: framerate goes from 20 to 80fps. Many times afterburner reports 30ish-40ish and you can clearly sense the choppyness.

With RT ON the bottleneck is usually the GPU.

I've noticed HUGE framerate drops in the merlin stuff when plants are generated.

Overall must be an horrible experience for the average PC user.
UE4 using low core count? Hmmm.

Edit:
a) I still think its some kind of copy protection they will eventually remove affecting memory instead of CPU to avoid scandals.
b) QA incompetence (so big? I mean they didn't expect big sells on PC? Who MBAs? They are so confident people won't return the game?)

Interesting. The game clearly doesn't use at least half of your CPU, and even the other half isn't anywhere near 100% usage. Why GPU usage is low as well is a mystery. Maybe some kind of engine limitation?
